Glamping in Worcestershire: Boutique luxury in the Worcestershire countryside, within easy reach of the county capital and beautiful Witely Court

Ockeridge Rural Retreats is a stunningly luxurious glamping site in rural Worcestershire  – lanes crowded with cow parsley and hedges full of blackberries – the site itself is far from a rustic retreat. If you’re a glamper looking for modern luxuries, you’ve come to the right place. Set on the edge of a series of fenced paddocks, with views down a shallow valley, Ockeridge Rural Retreats is comprised of five glamping units.

The first is  “The Shepherd's Retreat" Shepherd’s Hut, with under-floor heating, a tiled en suite bathroom and a king-sized bed and outside enamel roll top bath. A compact kitchen, meanwhile, has an microwave, 2 ring induction hob, fridge and sink and all the utensils you will need. The second abode slightly stretches the realms of glamping; it’s certainly a far cry from the tent-camping origins.

The Montana Lodge is a cosy log cabin that sleeps a family of four in comfort with a king-sized master suite and a separate bunkroom. Think of it as a refined self-catered home, with a fully fitted kitchen, spacious dining area and televisions in each of the bedrooms. Huge double-glazed doors at the front can be folded back to really let the outside in, with a wooden deck and garden furniture, fronted by a fragrant line of flowering lavender.

To top it off this accommodation has an outside whirlpool bath. Hillside view Shepherds hut is the smallest of the properties but has wonderful space saving features with a foldaway double bed and magnificent view from the large decking area. The Ashwood Shepherds hut boast an amazing William Holland Copper bath tub at the end of the Kingsized bed together with Log burner and full wet shower room this is luxury at the highest levels.

Last but no means least is the Monkwood Shepherds Hut which has breathtaking views and all the amenities you could ever wish for in a shepherds hut including Log burner, Roll Top Cooper Bath tub, Kingsized bed, dining area, kitchen, sofa and views to die for.  If you’ve not followed your gaze to Witely Court, two miles away, where English Heritage now welcomes you to tour the grounds, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Walkers looking for hills and well known routes can drive the nine miles to the Malverns.

Meanwhile, rainy days are easily filled dipping in and out of shops in Worcester and marvelling at the gothic cathedral. When the sun breaks, a pint beside the River Severn ends the day just perfectly.

The Shepherds Retreat
The property/area are great, very remote for walking and super peaceful. Tiffany’s information and replies were really helpful and prompt, I had a great stay here! The cabins themselves were thoughtfully laid out/decorated and really cozy! I’d love to come back in the Summer (and with a car of my own) as a couple of the walking routes we couldn’t do as the roads were flooded but it’s so be expected this time of year, and there’s plenty of other choice. Thank you for having me!

Monkwood Shepherds Hut
The directions and instructions we received from the host prior to arriving put our mind at rest about finding the site, but it was easy to find once we were there anyway. The hut was very spacious and comfortable for 2 with some lovely views overlooking the nearby fields with plenty to do nearby, especially when it comes to food options, breakfast at the nearby farm shop is a must.

The Shepherds Retreat
We arrived on the Saturday with only booking this shepherds hut last minute for me and my husband to finally have a mini moon as both our works have been hectic since getting married. The hut was spotless and so modern, the owners were there when we arrived and are very friendly! The under floor heating is amazing, the finishing details really make it a home from home, the bed is devine so much so I had a great night sleep. My only sad part is the weather was so windy as it was the day of the storm so I didn’t get to try out the gorgeous outside bath whilst star gazing, however I’ve said to my husband that we’ll just have to book again so I can have my bubble bath under the stars. Absolutely perfect location, really happy we booked!

Ashwood Shepherds Hut
We stayed in the Ashwood Hut and it was lovely - very spacious, clean and had everything we needed for a few days away. Tiffany (the host) gave us all the information we needed to have a great stay.

Monkwood Shepherds Hut
We stayed in the Monkwood hut which was clean, luxurious and spacious. Beautiful, quiet surroundings with pretty local walks. Exactly what we were hoping for and more. Seating and Bbq area outside with amazing views of the fields and hillside. Husband whipped up storm in the high spec kitchen whilst I relaxed in the copper tub! Would definitely stay again, what a special place. Thank you !

The Shepherds Retreat
We stayed in the Shepherds Retreat hut as there are four in our family. Had plenty of room and the children enjoyed the bunk beds. The hut had all the essentials and we were lucky enough to have great weather to make the most of the table outside and BBQ. The area was amazing to explore with plenty of walks for all levels of fitness. Would definitely return to these luxury huts and stunning countryside.

Nearby attractions
It's just half a mile from Ockeridge Rural Retreats to the local fisheries (07398 176362; you can walk there easily) so bring your tackle if you're a keen angler. Witely Court (0370 333 1181), a vast, ruined Victorian mansion and once of the great country houses of England, is 2 miles away. A devastating fire in 1937 left it in the state you find today – undoubtedly one of the country’s most spectacular ruins and a real spectacle in its own right. It's 6 miles, meanwhile, to Worcester city centre, well known for its magnificent cathedral (01905 732900) and independent shops. National Trust-owned Greyfriars' House and Garden (01905 23571) is well worth a visit, as is the Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum (01905 25371) on rainy days. The small Tudor House Museum (01905 612309) is also fantastic. When the sun is shining, though, nothing bears getting outdoors and exploring the Malvern Hills. The designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is just under 10 miles away and is renowned for mountain biking, along with miles of footpaths and hiking trails. For a more sedate way to take in the Worcestershire scenery, try The Severn Valley Railway (01299 401776), 8 miles away.
Food and drink
The nearest pub is the Holt Fleet  (01905 620286), 2½ miles away on the edge of the River severn. The Crown (01905 640408) in Hallow (5 miles), is a strikingly modern, gastro pub affair and can be walked to via country lanes allowing you to really explore the area.
