Rosewall Camping

Weymouth, Dorset, England
1 acre hosted by Rosewall ?.
Coastal location, sea views, lots of onsite things to do
Dorset’s cliff-and-beach coast has all the credentials for that perfect summer holiday. If the sun’s shining, everyone’s out paddling, playing and rock-pooling. If it rains, the region is well prepared, with aquariums and oceanariums. With demanding tourists descending here in ever-greater numbers, it’s no surprise that many of the campsites have progressed up the evolutionary chain. One such place is Rosewall Camping, which once must have started life as a scrawny, scruffy field and has now developed into a highly polished, lovingly manicured camping ground with plenty of awards and accolades to prove it. Gradual, imperceptible, changes have occurred over the years. Apart from the grass, the amenities have been upgraded and expanded. The result is a highly evolved operation offering a comfortable, easy, hassle-free family holiday. If evolutionary theorist Charles Darwin had been a camper, this is where he would have stayed. Such perfection won’t suit all Cool Campers, but the cracking views and coastal location will. Anyway, those seeking a more rough-and ready site will be around the corner at Eweleaze Farm. But for those looking for an easy holiday, Rosewall Camping is, as Darwin would say, the natural selection.

There is no holiday park feel as we are NO longer connected to the static caravan park. We are a family run campsite catering for families and couples. The site has stunning sea views. Cool Camping description suggets there is a clubhouse with food, please note we DO NOT have this. There is a local public house which is a 5-10 minute walk from the site. Also there is NO swimming pool. The Cool Camping for Kids book’s description is also now incorrect as we are no longer connected with the neighbouring caravan park (Osmington Holiday Park, formerly known as Osmington Mills Holidays Ltd) and so do not have use of their facilities, i.e club, swimming pool and shop). We do have our own shop on site.
Nearby attractions

There is a small rocky beach about 200 metres from the site. It’s fun for rock-pooling or catching little crabs, but the main beach for swimming is the shingle beach at Ringstead Bay, about 5-7 minutes’ drive. It’s also accessible on foot via the buggy-unfriendly coast path (30 minutes). The highly acclaimed Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre (01929 450414; open all year) is a 20-minute drive away, near Wareham. The kids can check out rescued primates and monkey around on the climbing frames. Admission for a family of 4 is £31.

Food and drink

Head down the road at the Smuggler’s Inn (01305 833125). It’s a cute country pub tucked into a dip, with a little stream running through a pleasant garden kitted out with swings and slides. The food is good-value pub fare and includes local seafood specials; kids’ portions available. For supplies to take back to camp, Craig’s Farm Shop (01305 834591) sells home-produced dairy products.
