We sincerely hope you don’t get lost in the snaking lanes that twist and turn their way towards the mellow spot that is Tir Bach Farm. But we promise that, once you’ve finally found this farmland site, you’ll be reluctant to leave.
Most people have dreams. Some people dream about winning the lottery or writing a bestselling novel. Living in Bristol, Ashley and Roze had a dream about moving to Wales to farm a smallholding and run a cute little family-friendly campsite. They heard about Tir Bach Farm, which, appropriately, means ‘small land’. And as soon as they visited this special little patch of Wales, they realised that their dream was right in front of them. They now have not only a campsite comprised of 20 tiered tent pitches and two comfy yurts, but also a grand collection of animals: cows, breeding sows, kune kune pigs and goats, as well as geese, ducks, turkeys and the odd chicken scratching around the farmyard.
The farm’s surrounded by mountains and 12 acres of ancient woodland with paths ripe for exploration and a small river, complete with a fallen tree-trunk-bridge. You could try the exciting option of taking part in one of their Bushcraft courses. And with hardly any light pollution, so star gazing is a must. One of the nicest things is that, at the end of a day out, you can return to the whispering stillness of Tir Bach Farm. It’s a mellow spot, because Roze and Ashley are mellow people. We think that you’ll like it here so much that you might just start dreaming of moving to the Welsh countryside, too.
At the beginning of the farm track is Penrhos Cottage, a traditional Pembrokeshire thatched cottage, almost unchanged since the 19th Century. Roze has a key. Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort at Preseli hills (01239 891319) is a 20-minute drive. Llys-y-Fran reservoir (01437 532273) is great for fishing, boating, cycling and walking, and there’s a café and play area. Scolton Manor (01437 731328) is just outside Haverfordwest. The nearest beach is at Newport; kayaking and sailing at Cardigan Bay. There are other beaches less than an hour away, including Newgale (for watersports), Dinas Head (for cute little sandy beaches) and Newport Sands (for big sandy beaches). St Davids is 45 minutes away, with plenty of history to keep everyone amused. Llys-y-Fran reservoir is nearby for fishing and boat hire.
