This little corner of a 40-acre farm is transformed into an exclusive hire glamping haven for the summer holidays every year

There’s something about heading down an unmarked lane into a Cornish valley that just feels so right. Glamping Cornwall's particular unmarked lane slides almost unnoticed into the Vale of Mawgan, a few miles north of Newquay. At the bottom, a sloping field sheltered by woodland and hidden by hedges is host to the satisfyingly retro sight of a scattering of cream-coloured bell tents.

Simon and Sarah, Glamping Cornwall's friendly owners, transform this little corner of their 40-acre farm into an exclusive hire glamping haven for just a short time over the school summer holidays every year. After running the site for 10 years Glamping Cornwall is now a private site for exclusive hire so you can enjoy this gorgeous spot for just you and your loved ones. With 3 large 6 metre bell tents positioned on little plots of levelled ground with plenty of space around it’s perfect for those who enjoy a bit of privacy or yearn for a sylvan retreat. Each tent is furnished with a double airbed, a double futon, an optional single mattress roll, bedding, vintage blankets and quilts, a coffee table, bedside tables, big rugs and a tea light chandelier making for a cosy retreat. Further living space is provided by a dining tent with tables and chairs alongside a sheltered outdoor kitchen area with cast iron gas stoves, BBQ, fire brazier and all the pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, and so forth, that usually reside in a kitchen.

The other facilities, all stationed just the other side of a bridge over a tiny brook, are designed to strike joy into the heart of the eco-conscious camper. Compost loos are housed in delightful little sheds replete with antiquated reading matter. The two hot showers and two cold water sinks are supplied from a spring fed borehole and waste water makes its way down the farm streams and through reed beds on another part of the farm. All on site lighting is solar powered however there is a shed with a fridge-freezer stocked with ice packs and some charge points for your tech.

Glamping Cornwall is just a short hop from a clutch of Cornwall’s best surfing beaches, as well as some of the most dramatic stretches of the Southwest Coast Path, so grab your wetsuit or boots and get out there. After a day on the beach, children can run free in the site field while the grownups fire up the BBQ and chill a bottle of wine ready for some marshmallow toasting and star gazing around the fire. Aside from the draw of the beach and the beauty of the rural site there is lots to do in the local area and Simon and Sarah provide all their guests with some great local visitor information about the best places to eat, shop and visit before their stay.

It’s a bit of a shame that Newquay Airport is just over the hill from the site since it means that when the wind is coming from the wrong direction noise from planes and helicopters can impinge on the tranquillity of the site. However, most of the time all you’ll hear is the wind in the trees, the calls of unseen wood pigeons, and, if you listen carefully at night, the hoots and toowits of owls patrolling the woods.

We love this special place and know that you will too. The pretty inland village is a 10-15 minute walk down a country lane and there are a choice of wonderful beaches from within a few minutes drive or 30 minute stroll.

The nearest beach, (Sunday Times' award-winning) Mawgan Porth, is within walking distance (20-30 minutes) along tracks and lanes. Beyond this further beaches stretch along the whole coast which can be reached via road or the coastal path (the perfect place for some dolphin spotting). Watergate Bay, a huge expanse of sand, is just to the south and the mythical Bedruthan Steps and National Trust land is to the north. From rock pooling and cave exploring to surfing (hire and tuition locally available), there are plenty of beach activities to keep you entertained and a little bit of exploration may reveal your own secret bay. If you are after something different you won't be disappointed...  The surrounding area provides great walks from laidback strolls to day-long adventures, pack a picnic and enjoy. If you are feeling a bit more intrepid why not hire some bikes or take a boat trip to savour the sights or catch your own supper. Top links golf courses, Trevose and St Enedoc, are both within easy reach. The nearest village (10 minute walk), St Mawgan, is a previous winner of Cornwall's best kept village and with its pretty church, traditional pub, village stores and tea room it's not hard to see why. For rainy days the biomes of the world-renowned Eden Project are just half an hour away. Head to Newquay Aquarium for a close up view of some sea life or a bit further afield to the Tate at St Ives with its ever changing exhibition programme.

We have a full visitor guide of the area on our website.
