Spellbinding family campsite. Spacious, safe and well-equipped place for young families; out of season, it’s very quiet for the more mature camper.

Once upon a time, an enchanting couple created a peaceful outdoor living area that was both safe and comfortable for young families and lots of fun for children. They called this place Greenacres – a gigantic four-and-a-half-acre field with just 40 pitches spread around the perimeter. The entire central swathe, is reserved for various dragon-slaying and spell-casting playtime activities. There’s the occasional 30-a-side football match taking place and perhaps a spot of ping-pong, too. There’s no visual electronic entertainment here, just a host of classic old-fashioned toys and activities, such as Wendy houses, see-saws, swings and bikes. There's also a carefully controlled, but very wide selection of books for both the children and the adults – who will have plenty of time for stress-free reading whilst the small darlings are busy exhausting themselves in the middle of the field.

Some may find the no dogs rule here a bit restrictive but when a site is this committed to providing good, healthy, energetic leisure activities for children then it becomes a necessity.

If all this has left you imagining a site full of noisy spellbound kids chaotically running through the place among all the cars and tents, then relax. All the magic takes place in car- and tent-free zones. Except, that is, at sundown on summer evenings, when the lanes around the campsite come alive with magic beetles, and they host their ever-popular Glow Worm Safaris. During the school holidays this site is probably not best suited to those quiet, reclusive couples looking for a bit of solitude, but beyond the peak bank holidays Greenacres is generally the very essence of 'P&Q'.

There’s plenty of fun to be had in the environs of this fairy-tale campsite, as well. The spectacular wildlife reserves of the Avalon Marshes on the Somerset Levels provide excellent walking opportunities or, if you fancy something that doesn’t require wearing boots, then hippy-central Glastonbury is only three miles away – and just the spot for picking up a magic wand...
