In Brief: 5 Campsites Making Changes After Lockdown

Campsites across the UK are preparing to reopen for summer, with many introducing new social distancing measures. Whether it’s opening new meadows to provide extra space or investing in new facilities to minimise the amount of sharing, we’ve been hearing from campsite owners getting things shipshape for camping in the era of coronavirus. You’ll still get the same friendly atmosphere, the same magical campsite setting and the same Cool Camping ethos at our recommended sites this summer but expect a few changes to make your stay safer.

In this blog we take a quick glance at just five campsites making changes for summer 2020 in order to accommodate greater social distancing. They’re just five of hundreds of sites introducing social distancing measures this year and each one offers our iron-clad Coronavirus Booking Guarantee, helping you book your camping holiday with confidence.

Whitlingham Broad Campsite

Whitlingham Broad Campsite, Norfolk

On the edge of Norwich, beside the waters of Whitlingham Broad, this popular family campsite is lowering its capacity for 2020 to ensure ample space between pitches. They’re increasing the cleaning schedule for their facilities and, where possible, they may also be able to offer the exclusive use of some facilities and pre-booked time slots for showers if needed. They also plan to introduce contactless check-in, so campers can arrive and pitch up without the need to head into reception.

Mena Farm Campsite

Mena Farm, Cornwall

This family campsite in the heart of Cornwall, a short drive from the world-famous Eden Project, is introducing new cleaning protocols for all facilities and will have a one-way system in washblocks to prevent crossover in the entrance corridor. They’ll be marking out two-meter spacing, to assist with social distancing, and they’ll check you in outdoors with contactless card payments only. Expect the children’s games barn and the play area to remain closed when they initially reopen the campsite.

Naturesbase Campsite

Naturesbase, Ceredigion

Four miles from the West Wales coast, Naturesbase seems well suited to social distancing, with only 10 camping pitches spread across two large fields – so finding your own quiet area has never been a problem. For 2020, however, they’re also introducing a one-in-one-out policy in their three shower-and-toilet rooms, meaning only three families can use the facilities at any one time, with spaced-out queueing available on the benches outside. Their renowned campfire nights and pizza nights well still go ahead (horrah!) but with social distancing in place.

Jubilee Camping

Jubilee Camping, Hampshire

A ten-minute drive from the New Forest National Park, spacious Jubilee Camping has gone one step further this summer, with plans to open up an additional field to give them a whopping 35 acres of space. Pitches won’t be marked out, so it’s up to campers to pitch where they want and leave a large space away from others, but with so much room on offer there’ll easily be more than 10 meters between each pitch. There’ll be contactless ‘drive through’ check in, to minimise contact when you arrive, while new elsan tipping points will be introduced, so that those bringing their own portable toilets will be well provided for (the regular toilets will still be open and thoroughly cleaned).

Ambers Bell Tent Camping

Amber’s at Hopton Court Estate, Shropshire

Like many glamping sites, Amber’s Bell Tent Camping offers an added touch of privacy that goes above and beyond the regular camping experience. There are just six bell tents on the glamping site at Hopton Court, on the edge of the Shropshire Hills, with a private toilet and shower for each. This year there’ll be contactless check in, too, along with additional deep cleaning of the facilities. Similar measures have been introduced at other Ambers Bell Tent Camping locations across England.
