Wildlife-friendly glamping amongst trees, bluebells and ponds, a 10-minute drive from the Pembrokeshire coast

There are signs of a lawnmower here – there are mown pathways and some areas around the lakes have been trimmed neatly for for fishing access – but, for the most part, things are left untouched. And that's just the way owners Kylie and Gethin like it. On the edge of Broadmoor Village in Pembrokeshire, their eight-acre glamping site feels like a little pocket of wilderness. Butterflies and bats call the place their home, and there are dragonflies in abundance around the two natural, spring-fed lakes. Somewhere, in amongst it, are the bell tents, bedecked with proper beds and everything you need. Once you find yours, it's time to settle in.

Though a watermeadow by name, the site is really made up of a series of slopes and layers, with flat mown terraces where the bell tents are pitched but also a few shaggy slopes and wild areas of bluebells. Each bell tent is spaced out over the site with trees between them adding to the sense of privacy. Inside, there are proper double beds and inflatable singles for kids, while, outside, you'll find a firepit, a picnic table and a kitchen shack, readied with a gas hob and pots and pans. Each bell tent also has its own private 'en-pitch' loo, in the form of a compost-toilet cabin and there are showers for use a short walk away near to the car parking area.

Though it’s clear that the comfort of guests is high on Gethin and Kylie's priority list, what really shines through is how much they care for the environment of the site, even as much as they do for their campers. Certified with the Greener Camping Club, they're passionate about preserving nature. You’ll be sharing Watermeadows with the rabbits amongst the trees and the Canadian geese that idle around on the largest of the two lakes, and though a mown area in the middle of the site has been left for kids to play games and run amok, by and large, the place is known for its tranquility and the trees that surround it help shield most noise from the nearby A477.

The proximity of the road gives you easy access to the local attractions. Recently voted 'the best place to live in the world' by Lonely Planet, southern Pembrokeshire offers plenty to keep you busy. Saundersfoot Beach and Tenby are both within a 10-minute drive and it's 15 minutes to the beaches at Lydstep, Manorbier, Skrinkle Haven and Church Door Cove. You can also hop on boat tours from Tenby harbour out to Caldey Island, used as a conservation project, where they've successfully reintroduced red squirrels, golden pheasants and barnacle geese, to name but a few.

Saundersfoot beach is 10 minutes away, views of the wide and flat beach with its golden sand are best enjoyed from the harbour. From here you can go on various boat trips, likely in the pursuit of spotting the dolphins and seals that the Pembrokeshire coast is renowned for. The Owner Says

Set in a beautiful dappled meadow, we really care about our meadow and want to keep it a natural wildlife filled environment. There are many song birds darting about, rabbits, foxes, butterflies, bats and, at the right time of year, lots of dragonflies surrounding the two large lakes we have here at Watermeadows . (Children are to be accompanied by an adult at all times beside the lakes and whilst on site)

We are a small site with less than 10 units all with plenty of space between, there is a large grass area in the middle of meadow for kids to run free range.

We are an eco site and certified with Greener Camping Club we encourage all our guests to recycle.

Surrounded with mature trees and plants .

Watermeadows was established as a Glamping site in 2020 we're a small family business and want to keep it that way for a more personal experience with your stay.

Getting There

Head towards Pembroke Dock on the A477, continue over the traffic lights at Broadmoor and then Watermeadows Glamping is roughly 800 metres from this point on the right. You’ll see traffic cones that the site uses as markers laid out, so you know you’re at the right place.

The nearest train station is at Kilgetty. From there, though, there is no onward bus route to the campsite, so you'll need to take a taxi (five minutes).

Stunning setting and ecologically minded facilities

We absolutely loved our stay here and can't wait to come back next year. The bell tent was so comfortable and beautifully decorated and the kitchenette had everything we needed to make our own delicious meals. We felt we had privacy as there was plenty of space between the tents and having your own compost loo was a bonus. Showers were lovely and hot and very clean. The site itself is stunning and you can feel the loving energy that Jill has put into maintaining it (she knows every tree that has been planted there :). We did some yoga whilst there which was the perfect setting and we felt very connected to the nature and surroundings. They are very keen on being environmentally friendly so this really appealed to our ecological values. Location was perfect for exploring the coastline, we visited Tenby and Manorbier with ease and would recommend the paddleboarding at Stackpole Quay! Thankyou for a glorious few days

Tranquil Camping 🏕

Watermeadows glamping is a lovely tranquil site. The bell tent we had, a 6m , the largest onsite was set up on a small hill away from the other bell tents which offered the ultimate privacy. Each tent has its own private compost toilet and a small kitchenette area and a picnic bench. A handy hint - other campers brought a small gazebo which they put over their picnic bench which was a great idea considering british weather. The showers are a block of two, a short walk from each tent and these are clean and lovely and hot. The site itself is maintained impeccably and Jill was such a lovely lady who was always on hand for any assistance and always with a smile. The location is perfectly situated near Kilgetty to gain access all over Pembrokeshire. I highly recommend Watermeadows for your next glamping experience.

Idyllic, relaxed and friendly glamping in beautiful Pembrokeshire

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at watermeadows last week, which we visited with our 5 year old son. The site is set around a few small lakes and a beautiful meadow… with only 6 or so bell tents and plenty of space for all. The setting almost feels exclusive (very covid secure) and totally respects the natural environment within which it sits. Each tent has its own kitchen and compost loo which is another bonus… as well as a fire pit and tree stump seats for drinks around the fire into the evening. Showers and washing up area was always clean and offered hot water. Owners are very friendly and helpful and the site is conveniently located for exploring the area. We enjoyed Tenby, the seal safari, folly farm, the dinosaur park, saundersfoot, wisemans bridge, Pembroke castle and the stunning barafundle bay. The only improvement I can think of is that a few shelves or more hooks inside or out of the shower cubicles would be a useful addition. Good luck with your ventures Kylie and Gill.
