Family-sized, hillside safari tents situated in one of Wales most historic tourist attractions in the spectacular heart of Snowdonia

Snowdonia's lofty peaks may steal all the travel spreads and screensavers, but at this North Wales tourist attraction it's the mountain range's subterranean scenery that draws you in, quite literally. Situated in the very heart of Snowdonia National Park on the fringes of Blaenau Ffestiniog, Llechwedd Slate Caverns is a fascinating interactive experience that tells the story of the region's slate mining heritage. At its height, the Welsh slate industry employed more than 17,000 men, with over half a million tonnes extracted annually and imported across the globe. Little wonder then that Blaenau Ffestiniog has long been known as "the town that roofed the world".

Now, visitors to this multi-award-winning attraction can really immerse themselves in North Wales' industrial past – albeit in the utmost of comfort. First opened in summer 2018, six seriously high-end safari tents are the latest additions to the thriving Slate Caverns site. Situated on a car-free (luggage is delivered to your tent) hillside overlooking the vast mine and quarry complex, these half dozen glamping units promise a stylish stay with fantastic views across Snowdonia. The tents accommodate up to five a piece, with a couple of smaller ones for families of four. Proper king-sized beds and cannily-crafted bunks ensure a proper night's sleep, while the en-suite bathroom (complete with electric shower and proper flush loo) and fully-equipped kitchenette mean there's no shortage of mod cons. Wood-burning stoves are provided along with barbecues, firepits and a spacious veranda, meaning guests can still enjoy the hallmarks of a holiday in the Great Outdoors (be sure to stock up on marshmallows in the onsite shop!). It's all a stark contrast to the humble workers' lodgings on show in the reconstructed mining village below.

You won't need to venture far for things to do at The Slate Caverns. The complex comprises a host of fun-filled and illuminating attractions. The Llechwedd Deep Mine tour takes guests on a guided trip below the surface via a narrow gauge cable railway, the steepest in Britain. The caverns are brought vividly to life courtesy of the knowledgable guides, with a little help from some state-of-the-art audio visuals. Hold on tight for The Quarry Explorer off-road adventure as you traverse the manmade mountains and cavernous craters in a military 4x4 truck, taking in views across Snowdonia and even Harlech Castle. Cranking up the adrenaline another notch, the onsite Zip World boasts Titan, Europe's largest 4-person zip line. From 1800ft up, it's the closest you can get to sky diving without jumping from a plane. There's even a zip line adventure course in the caverns themselves, not to mention an enormous subterranean playground featuring industrial slides the height of two double decker buses and six levels of trampoline bouncing fun.

Location-wise, The Slate Caverns scores pretty high on the 'singular settings' scale and it's a testament to the draw of the place that we'd be clamouring to glamp here even without the added bonus of the impressive array of attractions on the doorstep. Poised in the heart of this iconic national park, with red kites circling overhead and some of the clearest night skies around, a stay here offers the essential Snowdonia experience, and then some.

Stunning surroundings. Stepped in history. Views of the mining works Around. Amazing in any kind of weather. Would highly recommend as an adult get away. Not really suitable for children. Chinese in the town centre fantastic with a couple of ale houses. Betws-Y-Coed just a 15 min drive through the hills for a sit down meal and more on offer.

Amazing scenery

A fantastic location for glamping! Absolutely stunning views, perfect for celebrating my husband and mines birthdays! Our 2 children (age 8 and 3) also loved it especially the bunk beds! Our dog Toby also enjoyed the scenery! The hill up to the safari tent is very steep and you are not allowed to drive up it, the kind staff can help you in their vehicle between 3-6pm but if you come after that you have to walk up, so that was a bit tricky for us when we arrived after 6 with young children and a dog in tow. At check out a staff member comes with a vehicle and helps bring everyone and luggage down, the person who helped us was very friendly and helpful! We are looking forward to coming again, my daughter and husband loved the zip line! Even in the rain! :-)

Having just spent a week there we can definitely say it was amazing , the" safari huts " were great, comfy beds , good hot shower , enough cooking facilities inside if it was to cold to bbq , great log burner ..we both said it could benefit from having some steps put in from the 1st set of hut to the 2nd But all in all fab !

Relaxation and fantastic views

My fiancée and myself have just got back from a fabulous few days away here. We absolutely loved every second of the trip away. The location is fantastic, providing the ability to relax in the gorgeous welsh countryside. If you are considering booking a trip here, stop debating and just do it, you will not regret it.

Wow a fantastic break , beautiful scenery, nice hotel with a great selection of local drinks and local produce for breakfast . Check in was easy and the staff where very warm and greeting . We chose to have our bags taken up in the 4x4 truck which was a nice touch . Really can't believe what amazing value it was !!! 10/10 on all accounts !! Amazing keep up the fantastic work and I'm looking forward to return in the future

Fantastic place to stay, staff are welcoming and helpful.

This is an absolute gem of a place to stay, the huts are cosy, clean and quiet. There are blankets to use to sit on the patio overlooking the valley as it gets cooler in the evening. Lots of exciting things to do in zip world if you want ( try the caverns, 3 hours of adrenalin fuelled zip wires, climbing and crawling fun in the mines!) or just spend the weekend relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet and lovely views.....and stars!! The staff are very helpful and the breakfast and barbeque packs are more than enough for a two night stay. I would recommend a pint or two ( or Gin) in the hotel as it is very welcoming and lovely place to pass a little time..... and the elderflower beer is particularly good. All in all we had a fantastic weekend stay here and would definitely come again.

Wow wow wow!

The team behind this accommodation are wonderful from organisation to the absolute wonderful elements of the design and contents of the safari tent. Beautiful! Practical. This is an instagram hot spot and this is for the safari tent on its own let alone the breathtaking views. Be sure to jump on the T19 bus which there is a conveniently placed bus stop.just outside the entrance to the llechwedd site. This bus ride between Blaenau and Ffestiniog and Llandudno is beautiful. The team at the Llechwedd site were so friendly too. Very well organised with a prompt reception and then collection of luggage to take to the safari tents. I booked this as a surprise for my other half and he was blown away by how stylish the safari tent was. We will be back but for longer.. we both slept well too. If you are looking for adventure or just a rest this place offers both with the zip wire / mountain biking and slate cavern tours. Was it the fresh aire that made us sleep well or the very comfy mattresses with bed linen that was so soft and smooth . The quality was as high as the views that we took in. We will be returning. Great local cafes at Blaenau Ffesrioniog too. Top of our list of places to return to again and again. Thank you.

Lovely place

We just love the experience. We were overwhelming by the view. Such a lovely and cosy place to stay😊. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Definitely will be back there for another stay. Very highly recommended to visit! Keep up the good work 👍. Thank you for your hosting.

Cosy Glamping with great views!

The safari tent was very cosy and warm (especially with the fire in the log burner). Enjoyed the views out over the quarry and watching people on the zip wire. We used the BBQ for evening meals. Would have liked some more deck seating as only enough for two. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place to base a holiday of adventures at the various zip world locations.

Absolutely Amazing Stay

We loved our stay with our two dogs. The tent had everything you needed for an enjoyable stay with lots of walks nearby. We could see people on the zip line out of our window and it was so peaceful with hardly anyone else around. I would highly recommend staying here and will definitely be back again!

I expected more

The tent itself was lovely. Toilet/ shower facilities were great. We are a family of 5 and I thought it would be bigger. Only 2 chairs rest were stools/ kitchen table. Only one pan/ electric ring. The cafe was not open. We had not been informed of this prior to arrival and had planned on eating out as we were only there 3 nights. There is no space for kids to kick a ball as it’s on a hillside. Overall the staff were helpful and lovely and the tent was well presented but not as fully equipped as I would have liked.

The most magical time with my kids

We had an incredible stay last week - the accommodation was really great, the kids found it exciting, different and comfortable. The views are breathtaking, making our evenings after a busy day out and about really lovely. Location wise, we couldn’t be happier - we explored lots of the surrounding areas, making the most of beaches, lakes, rivers and waterfalls (plus all the on-site activities such as Bounce Below). Simply put, we will definitely be coming back!

a scorching 3 day break at Llechwedd

The tent was unfortunately unbearably hot which made sleeping quite tricky, but we did our best to keep cool. The team were attentive and helpful and the cabin was really well equipped apart from I would suggest more seating for the balcony area. It was clean, stylish and cosy. We took in Cribb Goch and then the whole horseshoe in top temps plus zip world and another walk on the journey home. The views over the quarry and beyond were lovely to gaze at in the evenings - Snowdonia is the most majestic place, rugged, mountainous, bold and exhilarating - we shall return

Perfect stay

Perfect stay in perfect weather! The view was amazing and waking up to the sight of the slate mountains every morning was a fantastic experience! On a clear night could see the stars and moon perfectly and was a fantastic cozy experience. The staff couldn't do enough to help us with any questions or requests, and the breakfast, bbq, beer and Cider pack that we purchased were fantastic! Local town and shops less than a mile away with everything you need to get in terms of supplies for your stay. Due to current circumstances we had to walk from the car park up to our pod instead of being dropped off, this was rather steep and for less abled people it would've been difficult/impossible. However I cant fault the place and look forward to staying again in future.

Our stay was unforgettable.

We stayed here for a week, everything was so much better than we expected, the beds were very comfy and spacious, the kitchen had everything that you need, but the view from the front was breathtaking. We explore the mountains around the site, amazing hikings. We will definitely come back in the future.

Glamorous, unique & amazing pods.

Just spent one night there & now wish I'd stopped a few nights. The Glamping pods were of a very high standard & all the utilities provided, were far more that you would get at any other glamping sites. The kitchen was very well equipped, including microwave, gas stove, toster, kettle & fridge with a freezer compartment & each pod also has it's very own bbq & bbq utensels. The beds were larger than bunkbeds & more like full size single beds & were super comfy and all had big thick quilts & blankets on them. The bathroom was very modern & good use of shelves & hooks to put things on & the main living room with its floor to ceiling patio doors, gave you views that were stunning & looked across the mountains for miles The walk up the hill to the pods only took 5 min, but very steep. They take all your luggage up to your pod for you, so you actually have nothing to carry up the slope, which was a bonus. The team really look after you & make you feel welcome & the reception & the actual Slate Caverns are literally only 10 min walk/ 1 min in the car. I would highly recommend this site & already looking at dates to go back next year.

Brilliant weekend!

We just came home from a lovely 2 night break and we couldnt fault it. Staff were lovely and always helpful. Safari tent was beautiful and cosy. We will definately be bqck again :)

Unforgettable stay in a spectacular setting!

I booked this for me husbands birthday and we stayed here with out 2 sons. We were all blown away from the moment we saw our accommodation, it was spotlessly clean, luxurious ams had everything we could possibly need. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all had a very good night's sleep both nights after 2 very busy days at zipworld, the beach and walking along the mountains behind the tents. Before we even left our sons were talking of a return. I couldn't recommend this place enough! A little gem set in an incredible setting, we make some unforgettable memories.

We all loved it

We stayed here with our three children. The hut is very comfortable, clean, equipped with everything we needed. The walks up the mountain behind were gorgeous. The boys loved the views of the slate mine and zip wires. We didn't use the cafe or pub. We came to Snowdonia to climb Snowdon. We were very happy to come back to the comfortable beds!

Brilliant, relaxing, everything you need

Definitely 5 star experience, couldn’t recommend this place enough for the ultimate glamping experience! We will be back !!

Great accomodation, great location

Really really impressed by our stay here at Llechwedd. We stayed during lockdown so some of the paid tourist attractions like zipworld werent open, but if you like the outdoors then theres plenty to do otherwise. The location is great, surrounded by glorious welsh countryside and scenery. Not too far from snowdon or plenty of other trails and routes. Also lots of other hot spots like betws y coed which are great to visit. On arrival at llechwedd the team will load your luggage into their truck and pop it outside your glamping tent whilst you follow a short distance on foot and take in the scenery. Inside your tent is everything you need, bedding, towels, crockery, wood burner and logs, an electric heater, really good quality furniture and fittings. Was genuinely very impressed. We came on a family holiday with 3 kids, going to book again with my mates next time and hopefully lockdown will be lifted to try some of the local attractions like zipworld. Thanks for a great trip!

Incredibly special

We came here in 2019 for my partners birthday as a last minute booking and we're absolutely blown away, what an incredible decision we made - it was the cherry on top of the cake. We loved it so much we booked it again for this year also, and it was just as special! Breath taking views and fantastic service. Can't wait to go again!!

Everything we needed

Me & my friends (4 people in total) stayed for 2 nights in mid October. Everything was pristine, shower was amazing, there is also a heater for towels in the bathroom and one radiator in the communal room, and of course the fire place. We did pay extra for more logs, would definitely recommend it if you're visiting in colder months, we burnt through 1 pack a night. We're quite cosy, the temps drop at night but we had blankets so it wasn't too bad. Good communication with the manager, told us everything we needed to know. The weather was all over the place (really windy, rainy and sunny), but we managed to see quite a lot in them 2 days, visited the slate mine, that was a powerful experience. The only thing I did not enjoy was trying to climb downstairs from the bunk bed at night - it was hard to grab the ladder with both hands (there's bar for one hand but not the other) so I was mostly sliding down hanging in the air trying to find the floor :D All and all, we would love to come back next year.

Amazing Time!

Loved our stay in the tents - everything we needed, log fire was really cosy.. ordered extra logs as they burn out quick. Additional hot water bottles were fab for the night as it can get quite chilly. Fab location, local shops ect. Would definitely return!

The Best Experience

Quite possibly the best glamping experience I have ever experienced. The tents are warm, comfortable and spacious! It feels as if every piece of feedback they have received they have listened to an implemented. Some of the great points that you might have missed: Tents come with 4 bunk beds one of which is a huge king (?) Sized bed Kitchen comes pre stocked with all the equipment you could need A number of hot water bottles are supplied Electric radiators supplied And.... The view...... wow You couldn't ask for more. Just ensure you buy enough logs to keep the fire going. I would recommend this to anyone, couples, small families or large families. Amazing, thank you for making our weekend one that will live with us forever!

Fab experience

Went with my housemates and we absolutely loved it! The tents are really well presented, clean and have everything you need for a little get away! Once the log burner was on it was nice and toasty. Amanda was really helpful and prompt at getting back to me when I emailed her about the holiday before we arrived. The views from the tents are gorgeous and we enjoyed sitting outside by the bbq and watching the sunset. We didn’t get a chance to try any of the activities on site but it looked like there was a lot on offer. We would definitely love to come back!

Spent the weekend at the slate mountain Glamping site with my husband, what can I say, it was just what we needed! Beautiful views, comfy warm log burner and lots to do in the area. Loved the Glamping tents, they were really comfy and covered everything that we needed. Also super clean, staff were really helpful and the owners clearly take pride in their accommodation. I would highly recommend for both couples and families. We’re already planning to book again for Easter! Brilliant!

Enjoyed our fantastic weekend from start to finish.Couldnt ask for anymore, our safari tent had everything we needed from logs for the fire to towels in the bathroom and if there was anything you needed the reception was never too far away.Weve already booked for next year. Thanks to everyone at slate mountain glamping.

Exceeded expectations and had everything we could need!

I was very pleased with our experience at Slate Mountain Glamping. The staff were very helpful with check-in and assisted with our luggage and directions. The cabin itself was amazing! Very clean and well-equipped. We loved the addition of hot water bottles, a heater and kitchen equipment. The information booklet provided in our cabin was also very helpful. The view at the front of the cabin was outstanding! I would definitely recommend warmer clothing as it was cooler in the evening and the only downside to our stay was it was quite windy through the night! This was completely understandable with the location but hadn't been anticipated as non-campers!!

Fantastic Glamping trip

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights in September and it was our first glamping experience. The safari tents and adjoining decking area are a really good size, super clean, very comfortable and have all of the amenities you would need. I was surprised at how well decorated and equipped they were considering it's a glamping tent. Check in was really quick and easy and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The location of the site is great; we visited various places all over North Wales during our visit and it was lovely returning back to put the log burner on and relax for the evening. We didn't make use of the other facilities on site but having the Slate Caverns and Zip world activities onsite as well as the tavern and restaurant/cafe, make it ideal. We loved it here and can't recommend it enough; we are already planning a trip back with friends.

Awesome location, accommodation and staff

Without a doubt the best appointed glamping unit we have ever stayed in. Comfy beds, warm shower, bbq, microwave etc. Meant we could pack light by our normal standards! Our little boy loved the excitement of using a bunk bed for the first time. We were lucky to have sunny days and cool nights so got to put the wood burner into action. Whilst it was chilly first thing in the morning there is an oil filled radiator to help warm it up. I would recommend bringing slippers. The site is located within easy reach of loads of great places. We spent a day at the beach, another in the mountains and another in the forests. And of course there is loads to do on site too. It definitely offered a unique vista like nowhere I've stayed before. The staff were very good - they assisted us with an issue out of hours and promptly followed it up the next day to ensure we enjoyed the rest of our stay fully. We will definitely go back.

Fab family break

We had a five day break in August 2020 as two adults and two children 8 and 11. The tent was amazing with a very comfortable and warm beds. We were unlucky with the weather as it rained and was blowing a gale but the wood burner kept us warm. It feels more like a cabin than a tent. We used it as a base to visit all three of the Zipworld attractions, the Forest coaster, Big Red and Treehoppers. We’ll be back in 2021 when Titan reopens!

Lovely tent and amazing views

We stayed in tent 3 for 5 nights in August 2020. Tents are lovely. Well equipped, clean, spacious and have almost everything you need. The reason I have given this 4 stars and not 5 is for two reasons. When it’s raining or windy my god you cannot sleep with the noise (not your fault I know) and secondly there is no where to hang clothes. I did however find a perfect solution to put a con as wardrobe where the silver stools are if you remove the picture on the wall. Something small is better than nothing at all. The walk up to the tent is a killer, again more so due to our level of fitness but again maybe some steps could be built to make it a little easier rather than slate. Staff are very helpful and cannot do enough for you. It really is lovely and please don’t be put off by my review, mine are more improvements that could be made.

Glamping up with God's

If you are thinking of climbing Everest this is a good place to start. The tents are situated up an extremely steep hillside. The 50m description doesn't really do it justice. Cars are parked at the bottom of the hillside and as promised luggage is transported up for you. Don't forget anything in your car as you will not want to walk down the steep hillside and back up at this point to retrieve! I suggest appointing the fittest in your party to be the runner. This will generally be the person currently training for iron man or other such event. The tents are beautiful. Clean. Well equipped. The beds are comfortable and fresh. The bathroom is modern and the fluffy white towels supplied adds to the luxurious glamping experience. There is a verandah at the front of the tent with chairs to sit and admire the breathtaking views and watch the sunset and sunrise over the entire slate mountain. A view that will not easily be replicated in any other part of the world. The town is about a ten minute drive away and has various shops, supermarkets and takeaways. Various mountain bike trails are close by and family activities such as zip world, the slate mine and cavern tour and of course, you are on the doorstep of the famous Snowdonia National Park. To sum up.. :The walk to the tent is not for the faint hearted, plan well, pack plenty of food so you aren't climbing up and down the steep incline. :You WILL hear every word your neighbours are saying and what they are doing and I assume vice versa. If you are hoping for a peaceful break this may not happen. : Pack comfortable shoes with a good grip. The path is loose stone and can be slippery. Shame they don't make steps, would be safer in my opinion. : There will be midges in the evening. Take plenty of repellent. : Plenty of mobile coverage although wi fi not working when we were there. We enjoyed the experience. Best for mountain bikers and a planned itinerary.

Trying to convince hubby to come back again soon!

What a beautiful place to go glamping! As soon as we turned up we were very impressed. Not going to lie the walk up from the car park is a little steep so my legs didn't like it, but that's my fault for lack of fitness. They drove our bags etc up so that was a great help and picked it all up again when we left for home. The weather wasn't great but it didn't stop us from doing anything. The glamping tents were amazing my children loved it! It didn't feel like camping. It was so relaxing, even with 2 small children. We would all love to come back!

Unique and Peaceful

Lovely little find in the Slate Mines with cute little huts that have a dining area, small kitchen, sleeping area and a very nice warm shower! Conveniently located given that we wanted two big days hillwalking in Snowdonia (approximately 30/40 minutes to Betws y coed and Capek Curig). The outdoor veranda was great given I brought my dog as well as a bbq outside (despite a bit of a mix up with the bbq food, there are options to preorder local produce). We lucked out with the weather otherwise the log burner would have definitely come on!

Peaceful, remote and wonderful

Possibly a slightly different experience as the main site was shut because of lockdown. But we still had an amazing 5 nights, blessed with great weather for the bulk of our stay, and even on the one day of whiteout we still found sun in Betws-y-coed. The tents are high quality, warm and comfortable and well equipped. The wrap around service from Amanda and team top class. We had great meals out from Betws (Hangin’ pizza and Royal Oak - which also has a life saving high speed electric charger) and beautiful walks with kids to the Fairy Glen and Swallow Falls. Loved the walks up the hill direct from the tent too. We will be back to visit the mine, which we were gutted to miss this time.

Awesome experience!

Last minute decision to stay over as there was availability, and Amanda was ultra helpful communicating with us over the weekend. Loved the experience, is well worth it and the cabins were lovely and clean, with everything that was needed! Definitely worth buying extra logs as you soon get through them on a cold evening. We arrived and left "out of hours" but the staff were very helpful and transported our gear down to reception so we could pick it up after visiting the caverns. Excellent customer service :)

Cozy, comfortable and well catered Glamping for the family !

We spent 24 hours at the end of October at Slate Mountain which frankly is not blessed with beautiful scenery but somehow has a magic about it. We glamped for one night in our wonderfully appointed tent. It was wild wet and windy outside but the log burner and cozy beds with crisp clean white bed linen and welsh blankets meant we could hunker down and enjoy our evening playing cards and trivial pursuit. Our two kids (9 and 11) loved the experience. The next day we did Bounce Below. I must admit I was particularly nervous but it was fantastic if not exhausting. We had a tasty lunch in the cafe and then did the Titan zip wire. I wish I had worn my fit bit ..... I really did work out those 24 hours but it was great fun and no doubt we will be back tho perhaps in summer rather than late October next time !! Oh and final hint. Make sure you stock up on microwaveable food as the local town has a small coop but little else and there are very few places to eat if any in the town. I think I saw a chippy and a Chinese takeaway !

How clamping should be

Everything was super clean and fresh, the scenery was unique and you have everything you would need in the cabin. They even provide a great selection of teas, coffee and got chocolates along with a bag a wood for the burner. Great experience!

Such a lovely experience! Gorgeous location and the huts are ideal with everything you need for a short stay in Wales. We went in October and the only downside was the cold - although the hot water bottles were quite effective. Staff were really friendly and the kids loved the drive up the rickety path. We did Bounce Below and the Deep Mine tour while we were there, which were great.

Great experience

From the minute you arrive you feel at home from checking in through to departure. We arrived early but not an issue was taken up to the tent and shown everything The weather changed and it was very wet and windy but the views were still good The tents are very cosy with the log burner going One point I think they could improve on is maybe have a single hob to make cooking easier but only a small downside The welcome pack and hot water bottle are a great touch Home from home and very clean Definitely going back next year 100% Beds are comfortable shower good Well done guys excellent place x

Lovely and cosy

Nice tents, tastefully decorated with welcoming treats like yummy biscuits and a great selection of teas. A bit scary when rain was pelting on the roof but grateful for the fluffy pillows to muffle the sound. Perhaps make people aware that they cannot drive their cars all the way to the tents and about the walk uphill for anyone who has physical impairments... Otherwise, great experience.

Amazing place Amazing Staff Highly recommend!!!

This is such an amazing and beautiful place to stay. The tents are really top notch, everything high quality, sleeping arrangements brilliant, beds really comfy and warm. We arrived I realised I forgot to bring milk so upon checking in the staff told me there was milk in out tent, small 1 cup pots, so I asked if there was anywhere I could purchase, she advised there wasn’t but said just wait there a mo, she came back with 4 pints and wouldn’t charge me for it!!!! Nice touch! We popped to the cafe there, was greeted by the lovely ladies there who advised of breakfast for the following morning. Then was taken with our luggage to out tent, also nice touch! Views amazing! Walked down in the morning for breakfast my son doesn’t eat a lot just cereal and toast, he wasn’t charged for it!! Another nice touch. Staff weren’t starting till 10 to transport people, we wanted to check out early as was going to climb snowden! Again was no trouble for them to find another member of staff to bring us and our luggage to our car. As I said amazing place amazing and very friendly staff. We didn’t do any of the activities there, was just a place to stay before our treck. But would definitely come back for another stay along with some of the great activities they have to offer. Highly recommend!!!!

Fabulous scenery and luxurious glamping

The tents are so beautiful and the beds so cosy we were only reminded we were in a tent at all by the wind blowing the roof. Everything is thought of, from the welcoming biscuits, tea and coffee to the hot water bottles. The Slate Mines themselves are so interesting to visit and it is a great base to explore this part of Wales. A fantastic place!

Perfect glamping spot in stunning location

The ‘tent’ was luxurious - amazing beds, great shower and really tastefully done out. Far nicer than some other places I’ve stayed at. The view over the slate mine and mountains was to die for. Great location for all that North Wales has to offer and the Zipworld centre has everything you need - café, pizzeria, bar, gift shop etc. Really nice to have all this after a long day out exploring. Steep incline to the glamping tents so wouldn’t recommend for very young children or elderly. A toaster would make a nice addition to the kettle & microwave!

Beautiful, but overpriced...

Beautiful scenery, but the tents were rather basic inside... Maybe a tip: a curtain between the sleeping room and the living area, so kids can go to sleep before the parents... There's only a microwave in the kitchen and a bbq outside. So no cooking possibilities... But overall we had a nice experience!

Cosy and comfortable retreat in the midst of spectacular scenery

The accommodation was lovely, clean and contained everything we needed for a family of four. The view from the balcony was absolutely amazing. Very peaceful in the evening and at night. It was our first time here but we will be back.

Charming and comfortable for all ages

This was my second visit to Slate Mountain Glamping. This time with my 10 year old son and 80 year old father. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the cosy comfort of the safari tent, with our two Tibetan Terriers. Gorgeous fluffy towels and comfy beds made the tent a wonderful refuge from the rain. Our tent was immaculate. We made the most of the on site attractions, enjoying the zip lining and the Deep Mine Tour, as well as delicious pizzas and lunch in the cafe. All the staff on the site were extremely helpful and charming. It was a great base from which to venture out into North Wales. We climbed Snowdon and went to the beach. My reason for dropping a star is that on the first night there was a group of 10 men (stag weekend?) who were extremely noisy into the small hours of the morning. Perhaps such groups should be required to either rent the whole place, or be banned to not disturb the tranquility of the beautiful Welsh mountain setting.

Can highly recommend! Amazing accommodation. Beautiful setting. Overall Great experience. Thankyou!!

Memorable trip

Wonderful experience to stay in the cabins . Equipped with enough for a few days away with very comfortable beds and lovely hot water . Could have done with a more comfortable seating are inside and maybe a catch on the outside of the bathroom door as the wind was blowing the door open . Surprisingly warm and very tranquil. I would recommend theses cabins and would also return for another stay .

The Cabin

The cabins are lovely and have thought about alot but....... the cabins are missing a couch of some description and because if this people are using the edge of the beds. So the mattress then becomes lumpy and uncomfortable. On the first day you get a lift up to the cabin with your stuff and a lift back down on the last day. Apart from that you have to walk up and down a the slate hill with holes and ditches every where. This is quite hard in the dark because the lights don't start till near the top and these are very dull. Once the mines close you are left totally alone apart from anyone else that is glamping in the other 5 cabins. So if anything else did happen like accidents or ill health you are reliant on 999 services and they would not be able to get to you in a standard ambulance and would need a 4x4 of something like this to be able to get to yourself. No emergency contact details are left with you for your stay. On the up side the place is beautiful and very quite on a night. Great faculties during in the day with lovely helpful staff members. The log burner is great once you manage to get it going just make sure you take enough up for your stay, because if you don't you will have to carry up yourself which can be quite a long haul. Would recommend to anyone for a stay though

Gorgeous tents in a really interesting location

This was a fabulous place to stay and the attention to detail was great. The only issue during our stay was noisy neighbours on the first night, although I gather they had a good stay!! We ended up doing the zip wires, the caverns and bounce below while we were there. I'd thoroughly recommend these too!

Response from Llechwedd Glamping

Glad you managed to take full advantage of the facilities on offer. It's lucky you had a comfortable place to rest at the end of the day!

Beautiful but very noisy

The cabin itself was beautiful and the views. We had high winds for the 3 nights and made sleeping in them so Loud. To the point we wanted to call for help but no emergency numbers where supplied. We arrived on the Friday and the pizza restaurant and pub was closed so we had to go on a quest for food. We walked snowdon which was a 40 mins drive. I think more needs to be done for the noise in high winds.

Amazing glamping at the Slate Caverns

Stayed 1x night in August with my husband and 2 sons (wish we had stayed longer) The safari tents were fully equipped, comfortable, clean and lived up to their ‘glamping’ name. The on site activities were also fantastic. We all thoroughly enjoyed.

This takes Glamping to another level.

I stayed here with my daughter and we both agreed that we couldn't of been more comfortable, only regret was we only managed to stay one night.Absolutely loved it.

Peaceful retreat

Our boys loved the bunk beds, rainbow colour umbrellas and being up high (for a short time, in the clouds). Plus the slate cavern experience and bouncing underground. We loved the peace and quiet, views and well thought out facilities. I had forgotten to pack playing cards, so we were pleased that there were some for us to use in the room. My husband particularly enjoyed the downhill biking - the reason for our visit.

I wish I had more time…

I loved Glamping at The Slate Caverns. A very unusual but stunning setting. A great base to enjoy all that there is on offer both at The Caverns and nearby, such as Snowdonia, Portmierion, lovely beaches, Harlech and Caernarfon Castle. The Deep Mine Tour and The Quarry Explorer were both very informative. I learnt so much about slate mining and now have an enormous respect for those who did it. We saw stunning views, beautifully lit underground caverns, people flying on zip wires above us, mountain bikers charging around steep twisty path. Later we watched children bouncing on huge underground trampolines and climbing around the edge on a Via Ferrata with zip wires (you have to do some training first). The Safari Tents were well equipped, beautifully finished and so comfortable you forgot you were camping. Hot showers, wood burning stove, sturdy cosy beds, dining area, kitchen with microwave and fridge, BBQ. The staff were friendly and helpful. You could choose from a selection of places to eat (not in the evening), friendly staff and a shop offering local produce including the nice touches found in the tents – biscuits, tea, rugs, cushions. I would bring warm clothes, waterproof coat and sturdy shoes/boots, it is damp and cold in the mines plus exposed at the camp site even in hot weather. Sadly I only had one wonderful night. I will just have to come back again with my sons who will love it.

Had to keep reminding ourselves we were actually in a tent!

Cannot recommend glamping at The Slate Caverns more. A truly remarkable experience. Perched on the hillside- in a commanding position above the site, the "tents" are tastefully decorated with deliciously comfortable beds and well equipped. Having coverted many of the homely interior touches, was thrilled to find many on sale in the shop. Only problem was constantly reminding ourselves we were actually camping! The glorious weather didn't stop us going underground for the deep mine tour, where we were both educated and brilliantly entertained by our enthusiastic guide about Llechwydd's fascinating history and the slate miners working conditions. The far reaching views were much admired from the back of the Quarry explorer as we were taken to the furthest reaches of the working mine - although the dogs weren't quite as animated! They were much more fascinated by the constant appearance of red overalled bodies whizzing over head. When the heavens conspired and bathed Snowdonia in all its blue skied magnificence - I had to relent and accept that I had finally run out of excuses to attempt the Zip Wire. This exhilarating experience was nicely rounded off with a glass or two of rose in the evening sunshine outside The Emporium, whilst enjoying the delights from the new pizza oven. Thank you Llechwydd for a memorable few days, to all the staff who took so much care of us, always accompanied by a wonderful sense of humour. My ONLY complaint - that there wasn't nearly enough time to do everything on offer and try all the cakes in the cafeteria!

Glamping weekend 👍🏻🎉

Safari tents were fab. Brilliant experience. Weather on my side for once. Really comfy beds. Hot shower. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Walked Snowdon, went on Titan, did The Quarry Experience, and went surfing at Surf Snowdonia - all activities good fun. Location of safari tents perfect for where we needed to be. Also had a run into Criccieth and Abersoch.

The setting, the activities, the accommodation and most of all, the people!

Wow! What a truly enjoyable experience. Set up on the hills behind the Slate Caverns, the glamping set-up is rather remarkable. It looks out over the old slate quarry; a unique perspective where one can imagine the many years of history and industry that has taken place in years before. Beyond the quarry lies miles of blue hills and mountains stretching away into the distance. The rooms/tents themselves are both luxurious and cosy – with a little wood-burner to keep you snug at night, and all the kitchen/cooking equipment one might need for a glamping experience. We chose to eat down at the Emporium where they serve exceptional pizzas, amongst other things, and had a well-earned pint at the pub next door. The beds (1 king and 3 large bunk singles) are like fluffy white clouds – and rather hard to leave in the morning! We had great fun clambering around in the underground cavern, whizzing across the caves on zip wires and various other toe-curling thrills. The glamping is also a perfect base from which to climb Snowdon, visit the many delightful beaches nearby as well as the bizarre and beautiful Portmeirion. Beyond the beauty of the Welsh countryside, the attention to detail in our accommodation and the many superb activities on offer, what really made our stay so special was the tremendous care we received from the Slate Caverns team. Everyone we met made us feel so welcome and happy to be there. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of an adventure in a different kind of setting, with every comfort provided.
