En-suite bathroom, private hot tub and stunning views spells luxury living on the Llŷn Peninsula

If nature was a beauty contest, the Llŷn Peninsula might just win best all-rounder. For ‘Snowdonia’s arm’ exhibits the best of Wales’ many wonders – lush green hillsides, hidden coves and sandy beaches peppered with timeless seaside settlements, all bookended by the bluest of seas and dramatic mountain peaks. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the peninsula’s proximity to Snowdonia National Park means visitors can be scaling the mighty mountains in the morning before enjoying a lazy afternoon on the beach, all in the same day. Needless to say, this peerless position means the views from pretty much anywhere are simply breathtaking. Case in point – the mountains and distant sea vistas from the private hot tub at this cracking new glamping getaway near Pwllheli.

A hideaway in name and nature, Tan-y-Capel Hideaway lies on a secluded three acre spot in the tiny hamlet of Ceidio. For any couples seeking a romantic retreat in one of the country’s most stunning settings, this is the place. Comprising just a single hi-spec pod situated in a tranquil garden, glampers here are the sole guests so privacy is assured. The cosy abode features a proper double bed, with an additional futon that converts to a comfy single bed for an extra guest. It’s entirely self-contained too with an en-suite bathroom featuring a modern shower dispensing instant hot water and a proper flush toilet. In addition, a neat little kitchenette features most mod-cons plus all the kit and caboodle. But it’s outside where the accommodation really comes into its own. Beside the modern gas-powered barbecue for al fresco dining, there’s a new roto spa hot tub with views across to Garn Boduan and the distant Irish Sea. If there’s a more decadent way to do glamping than watching the sunset with a glass of bubbly while soaking in the bubbles, we’ll do our utmost to find it. Thanks to the Llŷn Peninsula’s curious micro-climate –making it one of Wales’ sunniest regions – you’ll certainly get your money’s worth out on the sun deck (though the hot tub and de rigueur fluffy bath robes are included in the price).

If you can tear yourself away from this lavish lodge, there’s an abundance of things to see and do in the vicinity. The Llŷn’s stretch of the 870-mile Wales Coast Path is amongst the most stunning and is eminently accessible from the site. Be sure to make it to picturesque Porthdinllaen beach, home to the famous Ty Coch Inn, a legendary beachside boozer that regularly features amongst the world’s best in the travel polls. A pint and a paddle on a hot summer’s day – what more could you ask for?

Nearby

The Llŷn Peninsula is one of Wales’ most captivating coastal regions. Explore its many stunning beaches like Porth Nefyn (2 miles away) or Porthdinllaen (3 miles) home to one of the world’s best beach bars. For surfing (of the board, kite and wind variety) Porth Neigwl is excellent or you could spend a day at chic Abersoch, the sailing capital of Wales. There are several more hidden spots along the coast that are only accessible via the Wales Coast Path – just ask your hosts for the best walking or cycling routes. Further afield, Caernarfon and Criccieth are well worth a visit, not least for their castles and stunning views (the former’s overlooking Anglesey). The extraordinary Italianate village of Portmeirion (as seen on 60s cult classic TV series The Prisoner) is another essential stop. And with golf is your thing, Nefyn & District Golf Club (01758 720966) is less than 10 mins drive away.

Food & Drink

Pwllheli and its environs boasts plenty of pub and places to eat. Y Bryncynan (01758 720879) is less than 2 miles away at Morfa Nefyn. They serve real ales and wholesome pub grub from breakfast through to evening meals. The Ship Inn (01758 720559) at Edern serves exquisite dishes such as Welsh beef wellington and pan fried hake. Be sure to book ahead for Sunday lunch. The Cliffs Inn (01758 720356), also at Morfa Nefyn, is a great spot for lunch with a spacious sun terrace overlooking the sea. But for views, the pick of the pubs has to be Ty Coch Inn (01758 720498). Regularly voted one of the world’s best beach bars, the beer garden here is the golden sands of Porthdinllaen beach. Other worthy dining options include Plas Bodegroes (01758 612363) and Tremfam Hall (01758 740169) which both come highly recommended by your hosts.

Lovely Holiday

Myself and my husband had a wee break to Tan-y-Capel and loved it. The pod was very comfy and well equipped and also a lovely welcome basket was provided on our arrival with wine, milk, teas and coffees. Our host were very friendly, welcoming and on hand if we needed anything, otherwise we did not see them. This oasis is a mile or two from any shop or pub, handily there is a taxi business next door, but the jacuzzi hot tub was lovely treat after walking there and back.

Superb

We throughly enjoyed our stay at Tan-y-Capel Hideaway. We were welcomed warmly and were extremely impressed with how lovely, peaceful and well-considered the pod was. The added extras made the experience memorable and will certainly be back in the near future.

Perfect

We are just back from a two night stay at the hideaway. The pod was spotlessly clean with everything needed for a fantastic, relaxing retreat. We were lucky enough to get brilliant weather so during our time we managed to visit Abersoch beach, Aberdaron and also walk down to the famous Ty Coch Inn, which was a fab walk with a hidden treasure at the end of it. We enjoyed using the bbq and hot tub one night and walking to The Ship Inn for a nice meal and drinks on the other night. As mentioned in many of the previous reviews, Dave and Rebecca were lovely and very helpful with lots of information about what to see and do in the surrounding area. The sun sets and location are simply breath taking and we could not of asked for a better two days away, to unwind. Thank you so much. Laura & Matt

2nd time here and still just as excellent!

This was our 2nd time staying at Tan-y-Capel, the 1st being in March, and it was still just as brilliant. We stayed for longer this time around and had a great time. The weather being much nicer this time around meant, evenings were spent in the hot tub with the BBQ on the go and watching the amazing sunsets. It truly is a hideaway, with the outdoor space feeling secluded allowing you to just enjoy the scenery. Having said that the hosts are fantastic and are always on hand with any questions and queries, we were given fresh towels half way through out stay and when the gas ran out on the BBQ they were quick to replace it. I can't recommend this place enough, its close to places like Ty Coch, Abersoch, Aberadon, we even travelled to climb Snowdon one day and came back to the tranquil of the hideaway to relax. We are already talking of planning another trip to stay here!

Tranquil, comfortable and relaxing. If only the weather had been kinder!

Everything was exactly as described. Little extras like the Welsh Cakes and Prosecco were such a lovely touch. If only Dave and Rebecca had had the power to control the weather! The pod had been so well thought out and its location truly is idyllic. This was my first visit to Wales and I hope it will not be the last.

Perfect from start to finish

From the moment we arrived till the minute we left was wonderful. The hosts Rebecca and Dave were fantastic - every bit of detail described in what attracted us to this place met our expectations of not more. The pod was spotlessly clean, we were provided with clean towels, bath robes and slippers. The extra touches were lovely too, hot water bottles and fleece blankets were provided along with a cold bottle of prosecco which was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed for my partners birthday under a starry sky in the hot tub- bliss! The pod is located on the hosts property but with plenty of privacy it didn't feel like you were on someone's property. We also had a wall round the property who have lots of land and were greeted by the family pig, this was a highlight as so friendly and rolled over to rub her belly...we couldn't fault this place, the location is 11mins away from pwllheli town, we drove to Abersoch which was a 25min drive which had a superb beach. On our first eve we ate at a pub called Tu Hwnt I'r Afon - superb home cooked food with generous portions and friendly staff. On our second evening we had a bbq at the pod which is included. We can not fault this place and cant wait for our next visit. If you are looking for pure relaxation and tranquility Tan Y Capel hideaway is the place to go. Thank you Rebecca and Dave we enjoyed every second of being your guests for the weekend we loved it.

Just glorious

We stayed at Tan-y-Capel hideaway for just under a week in the Summer half-term. It was SUCH a relaxing experience. Every night we sat in the hot tub - come sun or rain - it was wonderful. It was surprisingly large space and met all our needs. We brought our 7 year old boy with us and he had a great time - collecting eggs from the chickens and playing football in the lovely field next to us. Rachel looked after us and was so easy going. I even left some personal items behind and she kindly posted these on to me - what a lovely lady! We all had such a wonderful time. The Llyn peninsular is just beautiful! We recommend Tan-y-Capel hideaway 110%, and will be finding excuses to come back...THANK YOU!

Fantasic experience

This pod is great, it's bigger than I was expecting. The Hosts were amazing, warm, welcoming and left us to our own devises after ensuring we had all the info we needed. The little touches they have added makes you feel at home and the views are stunning. We walked to the local pubs and near by is a shop which sells fresh meat and wine (although check the opening times)

Perfect little “Hideaway”

We absolutely loved our stay at the Hideaway. We booked 3 nights to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect stay. The pod is cosy and has everything you need, including robes and toiletries. The bed is very comfy and the hot tub is a great addition, a perfect place to watch the sunsets! The location is peaceful with lovely views and wildlife around to enjoy. Rebecca and Dave are so welcoming and even set up a birthday sign, balloons and Prosecco for our arrival! Thank you for a wonderful stay, we can’t wait to visit again.

Gorgeous hideaway with amazing scenery nestled in a beautiful part of West Wales.

I took my teenage daughter and her friend for a short break here and I could not fault it. The pod is luxurious as well as being warm and cosy and Rebecca and Dave have thought of everything! From the complimentary bottle of Prosecco and Yorkshire tea bags to the Molton Brown soap. The towels were fluffy and the bed super comfy. I cannot fault it. The pod sits on a secluded deck with table, chairs and a barbeque. However, the highlight is the hot tub! It sits on the deck with amazing views over the countryside and is the best way to relax. Although, I didn't get much of a look in, but it kept my daughter and her friend amused for hours. They stayed in even in the hail and rain! Rebecca and Dave are lovely hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. They were not at all intrusive, but were there if you needed them. We all had a lovely time and would definitely go back.

Beautiful secluded place with amazing scenery!

I have nothing but good things to say about this wonderful holiday pod! The place was clean, comfortable and had everything you could possibly need and more the dressing gowns, toiletries and Prosecco was a wonderful bonus! Even with the weather the hot tub was a lovely addition to a long day and the views are just amazing. The hosts were friendly and Dave made sure we had everything we needed. We loved it so much that we are already planning our next stay!

We had a wonderful weekend here. The pod was cosy and had everything we needed in a lovely peaceful and secluded spot. Our hosts were very welcoming but were careful to give us our privacy. Dream hideaway!

We couldn’t fault our stay at Tan-y-Capel. Rebecca and Dave were very accommodating, while at the same time keeping out of our way so we could enjoy the pod (unless we needed them, of course). The pod itself is brilliant and has everything you could need. It’s super cosy and has some clever storage spaces. Plus, it goes without saying the hot tub is amazing! Location wise, it was one of the best spots we’ve been to in Wales for visiting the Lynn Peninsula - well located for getting to Abersoch, Portmeirion, Aberdaron and more. We loved the pub just up the road for having a drink and playing board games (much to the locals’ amusement) and the food at The Ship was very good. We would definitely return, thanks for a wonderful break!

Heaven!

We stayed here for one night and didn't want to leave. The views are outstanding and the location is private and relaxing. Rebecca and Dave were lovely and very helpful. They have put in a lot of effort to make their hideaway so fantastic. The little touches like tea, milk, welshcakes and prosecco make a difference. The hideaway is clean and cosy but surprisingly spacious. There is so much to see and do nearby and Rebbeca and Dave give great recommendations- especially ice cream in Abersoch from the Two Islands! We would recommend Tan-Y-Capel without hesitation and are already looking forward to returning in the future. Thanks for the perfect stay!

Amazing Pod

Extremely lovely/helpful host. The pod was immaculate & of a high standard. Everything you could wish for with lovely thoughtful extras.. Will recommend. However our 2 night stay was compromised. I booked this particular pod for complete privacy,( my main reason total privacy) sadly on this occasion it was far from private.. we couldn’t use the hottub at ease due to workmen sat in the adjacent field eating lunch in there van, if sat in the hot tub you could see them working & then you. This made me very uncomfortable.. We had to wait untill there work day finished to relax fully. Cooking breakfast / lunch on the bbq was nt relaxed & private, once again builders in & out of there van which meant they kept walking passed. We felt what could of been a fantastic stay was tarnished and wasn’t fully enjoyed.. The views are spectacular & it is excellent value for money 100% within the pod.. All the above where discussed with Rebecca and hopefully the fencing will be made higher to respect customers privacy to ensure 100% satisfaction. I would definitely return if a higher fence ran alone the side .. it was a beautiful place, the host was amazing on arrival & leaving, sadly the much needed brake for our romantic stay didn’t reach our expectation on these particular dates. I would pay and return immediately if the above was put in place.. I hope this feed back is helpful, it’s not intended to put anyone off a visit to this amazing pod. I’m very fussy & if I’m expecting something I want exactly that. I feel I need to re-book a night away again. Tan-y-Capet would be my choice again if the problems we encountered were fixed.. happy glamming to anybody who tries it

Private, peaceful and utterly luxurious. Chill out in the hot tub with a glass of bubbly!

What a place! Tan-y-Capel Hideaway surpassed all our expectations. To call this a mere pod seems a disservice – it's more like a boutique hotel room complete with lots of lovely additional extra touches (like Welsh cakes and prosecco!). There's the comfiest of double beds, en suite bathroom with proper shower and flush toilet, kitchenette and, best of all, a private state-of-the-art hot tub on the private veranda with amazing views of the surrounding hills and the sea. Dave and Rebecca were so welcoming, giving us a tour of the grounds and furnishing us with lots of local recommendations for places to visit, eat and drink. The Ship Inn at Edern (about 5 mins drive away) is a cracking spot for an evening meal with a varied menu of lovely locally caught seafood dishes. Be sure to get a cab down courtesy of Griff (Dave and Rebecca's neighbour) so you can sample their huge selection of artisan gins. The stunning Porthdinllaen beach is also a 5 mins drive away, home to TY Coch Inn right on the beach – possibly the best beer garden in Wales! We're already getting withdrawal symptoms so will definitely be booking our return soon...

Great pod, great hosts, great hot tub and great weather!

Dave and Rebecca are a lovely friendly couple who welcome you with a bottle of fizz and a smile. The location has stunning views over the Llyn peninsula. You are not far from the coast and the famous Ty Coch pub. Bring a bike with you as there are many country roads to ride around. Sitting in the hot tub at night, counting the stars with a glass of fizz to hand is a memorable experience. Danny and Morag

The pod is fully equipped with everything you need from fluffy towels, crockery, (great quality!) shampoos and conditioners (greatly valued by myself) fresh flowers and even prosecco and milk! Luxury

We stayed in the pod for 3 nights recently. The location is simply breathtaking - the pod sits in a private, elevated space overlooking the rolling countryside with views out over the sea. The pod itself is the most luxurious camping accommodation we have ever stayed in - it is extremely comfortable and well furnished with everything you need. Rebecca & Dave have thought of everything, the fridge is even stocked with milk and Prosecco on arrival! Their attention to detail is second to none, and whilst they leave you in peace to enjoy your time, they are always on hand to help whenever needed. The only minor issue for some might be (which is beyond the control of the hosts) that the elevated position of the pod can be quite windy but the seaviews are definitely worth it! This accommodation is perfect for those looking to get away from the crowds and enjoy a peaceful stay in a private, luxurious location with breathtaking views.
