Luxury living in a stunningly secluded mid-Wales setting

It’s bubbles upon bubbles at The Secret Yurts in Powys, mid-Wales, where you can sit in a frothing hot tub and enjoy a flute of champagne at the same time. The image sort of sums this glamping site up. It’s a place where luxury reigns supreme and no detail is spared. Is it really a secret? No – the site has only been open since 2014 and is already well known through word of mouth alone – but what it can still boast, is a wonderfully secluded location, tucked away in the rural lanes of Powys. Here, luxury living meets a serene setting and only adults are allowed… so keep the bubbles coming we say!

The site itself is comprised of just three traditionally designed yurts spread their own spacious field, with full access to all the modern amenities. Each cosy abode sits perched atop wooden platform, with excellent views to enjoy from the deck chairs on the decking. While certain features have become staples of the glamping world – king-sized beds, a log burner, chunky wooden furnishings and your own private bathroom – The Secret Yurts has gone several steps beyond. Thoughtful extra touches like toiletries, dressing gowns and an endless supply of logs are a real treat, while a wooden, Finnish sauna and a a private hot tub for each yurt make it a glamping site for truly retreating, rather than a simple stop-off along the road.

For all these indulgences, however, the site has still managed to earn itself a silver award from Green Tourism in recognition of its eco credentials. Hot water is provided through ground source heating and solar panels, logs for the fire are sustainably sourced, and the fancy rainwater harvesting system that keeps excess water use to a minimum. It’s all pretty remarkable when you factor in the fully equipped kitchen that also has to be run – accessible for all guests to use and stocked with everything you could need.

When you do find time to leave the site – fingers like wrinkly prunes from too long in the hot tub – there’s plenty to be found. It’s a 20 minute drive to Powis Castle and a little longer to breathtaking Lake Vyrnwy, with bikes for hire and boats to take out. Or make the 45-minute journey to Snowdonia National Park where you can hike the hills and really earn your night's rest back at camp. Not that you need go that far. Several footpaths lead directly from the glampsite if you fancy taking a stroll. Just remember to note where you started, since The Secret Yurts isn’t marked by name on any OS maps. Maybe pretty secret then after all!

The three yurts are fully furnished, featuring a king-sized bed with feather bedding and crisp bed linen, towels, dressing gowns and toiletries are provided. A wood-burning stove will keep you warm and cosy, all kindling, logs, firelighters and tealights for the lanterns are included in the price. Within the eco, wood-clad facilities building you will find your own private wet room.
Birch and Oak each have a private wood-fired hot tub on the deck outside the yurt, heated and ready to use on arrival, we also heat it up again each day. Rowan has a large private hot tub a short walk from the yurt, with motor massage jets and a BlueTooth sound system.

Due to social distancing rules Rowan will have sole use of the kitchen within the facilities building. Birch and Oak each have their own private kitchenette on the deck of the yurt within a wooden structure. This comprises of a two-ring camping stove, gas will be provided, pots, pans, crockery etc, 20-litre water container refilled daily, large cool box, the ice blocks will be provided daily, washing up bowl, tea towels and washing up liquid, table and chairs.

Outside each yurt there is a Kadai barbecue, please bring charcoal if you intend to barbecue.

Wonderful experience

We spent two nights at in the Oak Yurt and we had a wonderful time. The yurt was very clean and comfortable and the hot tub was kept at a lovely temperature. The little kitchenette was well equipped but washing up was a bit of an issue so we used the bathroom. The bathroom is only a few metres away. There’s plenty to do around there. We visited the lake and the waterfall. Just make sure you take some changes if you visit the waterfall for the toilet! We went to the three drops private dining and it was fantastic. We also booked Elwynn to take us and pick us up and he was great. Overall well worth a visit. If I was being really really picky I’d say some fairy lights outside would be nice for when you are in the hot tub once it gets dark.

Lovely peaceful getaway

We stayed in the Oak Yurt and it was beautifully presented and clean. The little kitchenette was right next to the yurt which was easily accessible. The hot tub was fantastic and was lit up from 1pmish. Ice blocks and logs/kindling were provided and refilled everyday and Tracey and Terry were lovely hosts. We had issues with alot of flies in our kitchenette and the Yurt so they provided fly tape for us in our kitchenette. The bbq was a decent size and we cooked on it every night. There's a Tescos about 10mins drive away to go and get any bits you might need. Washing up the utensils and plates/pots was a bit tricky without hot water so we used the bathroom sink instead. The bathroom/wet room shower was clean and lovely and the rain shower always had hot water. This was really close to the Oak Yurt. There are lots to do the area and we went to Lake Vyrnwy and did a canoe ride which was fun (£20 for 1hr). We fully recommend booking a reservation at Just3Drops restaurant as this was a fantastic private dining experience and the food was incredible. Overall we had an amazing 4 night stay at the Secret Yurts and would definitely go back again and recommend to others.

Fantastic getaway

Me and my partner stayed at The Secret Yurts for my birthday. The rural location paired with the weather, made for a fantastic few days. The yurt is super cute, with a very comfy bed. The kitchenette was very handy for the couple of times we cooked. The wood-fired hot tub was amazing, where we spent most of our stay. One little request would be a net, which would be a handy addition to skim any bits on top of the water. The separate toilet facilities were great and spotlessly clean. Tracey and Terry were both great hosts and we hope to come back soon.

Everything we hoped for!

I surprised my partner with a two night stay in The Rowan yurt. The stay was everything we asked for and more. The yurt itself is set out beautifully with a cosy log fire that kept up warm throughout our stay. We awoke to the sound of farm animals which made it feel that more “off grid”. Originally we booked the Birch yurt, after discovering the Rowan was available, Tracey and Terry kindly let us upgrade so we have an electric hot tub which was AMAZING! Both Tracey and Terry were excellent hosts and have really put the tiny details in each yurt to make it feel like a home away from home. We took Their recommendations on where to explore and to have dinner which were both exceptional. We cannot wait to return to The Secret Yurts, it really was a trip to remember.

Post lockdown adventure

Stayed in the oak Yurt, it literally had everything we could have asked for. Cosy, cute, and impressive. The facilities are excellent and have everything you could need for a little break away. The log fire is definitely powerful and keeps the heat well. Tracey and Terry were so welcoming and great hosts. The area is beautiful and we explored local attractions such as Pistyll Rhayader and Powis Castle, both very impressive. Definitley recommended and would love to come back at some point.

Took a three day break to escape the chaos & we couldn’t have asked for anything more. It’s so unique! The yurts (we stayed in Rowan) are sublime. Cosy (But large!), cute & the log burner makes it just perfect. Each Yurt is surrounded by trees with its own veranda which is private & secluded. We BBQ’d every morning & night! The toilets are a ten second walk and each yurt has its own beautifully fitted bathroom. We also had sole use of the kitchen (when you hire Rowan this is included) and super hot-tub. All adding to the perfection. It’s also about a 50 min walk to a nearby village with a couple of pubs for dinner/beer. We also explored a nearby lake and waterfall. If we could have stayed a month we would have done! Just perfect! Already tried to book but it’s booked up way in advance so get it done!

We stayed in the Rowan yurt over the last bank holiday weekend in August and loved every minute. Tracey and Terry know how to do glamping properly, everything was perfect. The yurt was so cosy and romantic, it really is a special place to stay and have a break from busy life. The hot tub which is designated to guests in the Rowan yurt was huge and super relaxing. We were really impressed at the facilities in the kitchen and bathroom, everything was well equipped. The location is also beautiful, we had two long walks around the surrounding countryside with amazing views. I really hope we have the opportunity to stay here again in future

Relaxing, pleasant and unique experience

Me and my partner booked here for her birthday and loved every second of it. Cosy little fire and a relaxing hot tub. Also very friendly staff. We’re already looking to book it again next year! Very pleasant experience from start to finish.

Pure Relaxtion

This place is just what the Doctor ordered. Life these days is so fast paced and for the sake of your sanity you have to make that conscious effort to spend sometime in the slow lane and let the world fly by. This is a great place to do just that. My Wife and I palmed the kids off and spent an amazing weekend at the Secret Yurts in May. We stayed in the Birch Yurt with the private wood fired H Ho Hot Tub (that's not a typo, it does get efficiently Hot) and for us this really made it feel intimate. I don't want to say too much else (leave some surprises) other than don't hesitate if you are thinking about it. Tracey and Terry are fantastic hosts who went above and beyond for us. If we can con someone to have the kids again then we will definitely be going back. Its a beautiful part of the country and fully recommend a visit to Lake Vrynwy.

Stunning Stay in the Yurt

We have the most perfect bank holiday weekend here. The Yurt is stunning. The Yurt itself is beautiful. With all the things we needed even dressing gowns! The fire was the most perfect feature and kept us warm all night too. Its a lovely location surrounded by beautiful countryside. The kitchen and bathroom was everything we needed, modern and clean. I couldn't have asked for anything more. There was loads of information on places to go and things to do. We didn't want to be totally out of things with our phones but not being able to charge them in the actual Yurt made us be a bit more present. We found we charged then when we went for a dip in the really lovely hot tub. We packed our days full and spent the evenings chilling in the yurt or hot tub. I cannot recommend this place enough. It is pricey. And that's the only reason I wouldn't be able to rush back. But yeh, for sure recommend!

The Secret Yurt for a Secret birthday trip!

What a fantastic stay for my husband's 30th birthday! Everything exceeded expectations, was so beautifully set and all the little touches made is extra special. A perfect romantic get away! We stayed in the Birch Yurt where we had our own BBQ and a wood fire hot tub - a great way to unwind after our days activities. Tracey and Terry couldn't do more for us - Thank you so much! We highly recommend a stay at the Secret Yurts and hopefully will return in the near future! Certainly a weekend never to forget!!!!

Lovely getaway in the heart of the Welsh countryside

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Secret Yurts for a weekend recently and had the most relaxing, lovely time there. Our yurt was amazing - beautifully decorated and cosy, with the comfiest bed ever! The bathroom and kitchen facilities were brilliant, and the hot tub was great. The yurts felt very secluded and were so peaceful, and the owners, Tracey and Terry, could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The perfect way to unwind for a weekend out of the city. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend!

Exceptionally relaxing, exciting and breathtaking.

Absolutely amazing, I've not stayed in a Yurt before, and I will definitely be doing it again! Spent the weekend in Birch Yurt, which has it's own hot tub. Not only that, each of the Yurts has their own private bathroom nearby, which were of higher quality than any hotel I've ever stayed in. It was exciting to be able to light our own fire, and feel like we were spending a weekend alone in the countryside. A lot of thought and care has been put into the Yurts, and as you arrive you're met by something a little big magical.

We stayed for 2 nights on the weekend of the 16th March 2018, we were late in due to Friday traffic but were met with a warm and friendly welcome by torchlight. We were give an informal tour of the facilities and shown to our Yurt pre heated with the stove already alight :) we got straight into the hot tub followed by sauna and a few drinks. We spent the weekend travelling around southern snowdonia and popped into powis castle. The second night we hot tubbed in - 4 in heavy snow. We woke to 8 inches of snow and a tricky drive home :) it was wintertastic. We had an awesome time. The facilities were amazing, nice touch with the private bathrooms! we were left too it completely . The owners were there incase we needed anything. No complaints, we cant wait to come back!
