Peaceful shepherd’s hut glamping with mountain views, set in the Brecon Beacons National Park

Pitch sizes on camping and glamping sites are usually measured in metres but we’ve found a place where acres are more appropriate. Sennybridge Shepherd’s Hut, on the Northern side of the Brecon Beacons, has one of them. Stay there and it will be all yours along with glorious views, easy access to the adventures of the National Park and a tiny, tidy home which has been made with a lot of local love.

Situated in a field between two villages within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Sennybridge Shepherd’s Hut has been a labour of love for local builder Martin and his partner Diane. It was first conceived as a getaway for their own personal use but the project evolved as they realised that their little home and their big field were just too good to keep to themselves.

The field has deliberately untamed corners; a wildlife-rich pond, a meadow area and newly-planted native fruit trees, but the hut is as neat as a hotel. Inside, it has whitewashed walls, a made-up double bed, a little kitchenette and its own shower room and toilet. Throw open the hut’s double stable doors and there’s a raised deck with a hammock and outdoor furniture; the perfect perch from which to watch the acrobatics of red kites which are fed nearby. Once they have gone home, you should stay out as there’s a nightly display which is just as impressive as the daily one. The Beacons is designated as a Dark Sky Reserve and the stars certainly seem to shine brighter out in the field.

You can walk the leafy ‘back road’ to reach the local shop, cafe and pubs in Sennybridge or Defynnog. For picnic supplies that are fresh from the farm, take a short drive to Penpont with its organic goodies or pick your own at Aberbran Fawr, where you might find Diane at her day job, behind the farm shop counter. There are plenty of places to unpack your hamper from the banks of the Monmouth and Brecon Canal to the peak of Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales. But don’t overlook what might be the ultimate picnic spot – your very own field in the National Park.

You will find yourself relaxing in our 2 acres of idyllic countryside, enriched with nature.  Peaceful and secluded, and yet a short walk to nearby sleepy villages.
Take a stroll along the River Senni, which leads you to the village of Sennybridge, or in the opposite direction, to St Cynogs Church in Defynnog, which is the home of one of the oldest Yew Trees in Britain, some believe this tree could be 5000 years old.
We hope all our guests enjoy their stay as much as we have enjoyed creating a memorable get away.

Diane and Martins' shepherds hut is fabulous, really well appointed. Great welcome basket and milk in the fridge. Even though the weather was bad, we enjoyed relaxing reading and watching the Red Kites.

Just Amazing!

Had such a fantastic time staying in the beautiful shepherds hut! Diane is such a welcoming host and the hut had everything you could possibly need and more! Lots of places to visit locally- Pen-y-Fan is well worth a climb for the panoramic views and the castles and reservoirs are also worth a visit, although we could have just as easily spent our time soaking up the glorious sun in the hammock and enjoying the views and nature. A real hidden gem which we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

Book it now!

Had the most wonderful time at Sennybridge Shepherds Huts- the hut was beautiful and had everything you could possibly need. Diane was a very welcoming host and couldn’t do enough for us. Although there was plenty to explore in the area (including a very warm walk up Pen-y-Fan), we could just have easily spent the whole time soaking up the sun in the hammock and kite-spotting. Truly a hidden gem in the Welsh countryside which we’d recommend to anyone!

Perfect place for feeling one with the nature!

We were amazed with the interior harmony of the shepherds hut. It was sparkling clean! Diane and Martin thought and put everything that we might need in it. We only had a chance to meet Diane, she was so kind, friendly and helpful. Our stay made us feel reconnected with the nature. It gives lots of options to relax and enjoy the moment. The hammock in the veranda, BBQ, and the beautiful garden. We were lucky enough to see the bunnies in the morning. It was amazing to watch the dance of the kites. We highly recommend it! Can't wait to come again.

Peace and perfect escape from the city.

We loved this sweet, peaceful and perfect hut! Everything is thought of, and is a great escape. We loved the indoor fire, and outdoor fire pit, we had a great BBQ. It has a lovely kitchenette with everything you need to self cater. The bathroom is perfect, with a great shower. We also loved the fact that it is off the grid. We enjoyed the surrounding hikes, especially up Pen-Y-Fan. It is also close to some great local pubs in the villages near by. We will definitely tell others about this perfect escape and be back again!

A gem of a place!

We felt very lucky to be one of the first to stay in this hut. Martin and Dianne have created a little oasis in the Brecon Beacons. The hut is very well designed and beautifully made with very high quality decor and contents - loved the kettle, mugs and fluffy towels! The bathroom and shower are a great bonus. It's set in the corner of it's own field with private decking and an extra patio area (with a magnificent view) for a firepit and BBQ. They have thought of everything! If you can force yourself to leave it's a short walk into both villages where there is a choice of pubs and a shop. As you can tell we loved it and can't wait to return in September!
