About Ty Barcud

Suitable For

Glamping only. Tents, campervans and caravans – no.

Where to start? Even the nearest A-road, leading across the Cambrian Mountains to Rhayader, was once described by the AA as one of the ten most scenic drives in the world. And it's just a road. The Ystwyth Valley is even more popular with walkers, cyclists and anglers (the river Ystwyth is a favourite for trout and salmon). Hugh and Barb have plenty of maps you can borrow and are always keen to give recommendations. Particular highlights include Bwlch Nant yr Arian Red Kite Feeding Centre (0300 065 3000; feeding times are 3pm in summer and 2pm in winter) and the Hafod Estate – 200 hectares of gardens, statues, waterfalls, grottos and caves. Take a picnic, swim in the river and spend the day (entry is free). National Trust owned Llanerchaeron (01545 570200) is a similarly grand spot nearby for exploring and you can go inside the house if it rains. Devils Bridge Falls (01970 890233) is also well worth a visit. After walking to the dramatic falls, enjoy a well-deserved cup of tea and cakes at the impressive Hafod Hotel (01970 890232).

Food & Drink

There's a welcome basket in the pod on your arrival containing a small loaf, butter, milk, a soft drink and welsh cakes with jams. For an additional charge they also offer breakfast baskets (the same as the welcome basket plus bacon, sausages and free range eggs), luxury baskets (all of the above plus a bottle of wine, Welsh beer and chocolate truffles) and a celebration basket (Prosecco, box of chocolates and bouquet of flowers). Head to Aberaeron harbour for the delightful Harbourmaster Hotel (01545 570 755) – or for an open fire, great ale and food go to Y Talbot (01974 298208) in rural Tregaron. There are many good places to eat in Aberystwyth, Hugh and Barb are always happy to offer recommendations.

Beautifully relaxing escape away

The pod is set amongst beautiful country side views with a fire pit to use to watch the day/evening away. Very relaxing. Nice to be in the fresh air and away from city life. Local town a pleasant 15min drive away with all you need to eat out or bring back to the pod to cook there. Lovely walks. Accommodation is so cute and has every thing you need for a relaxing break. The hosts were so friendly and really cared about us having a nice stay. Welcome basket was a nice touch. Lovely chickens and ducks wandering around which I love! Highly recommend, we would love to come back!

Hi, Thank you so much for your lovely review - we are so glad you were able to relax and enjoy the Welsh countryside. We look forward to seeing you here again sometime in the future. Best wishes Hugh and Barb xx

Perfect, quiet escape... in an orchard on a meadow.

When you are looking for directions, i would highly recommended simply putting the name of the village in "Cnwch Coch" otherwise it can be difficult to find. However, once we arrived we were greeted by the lovely Barb and he extraordinarily well trained springer - who didn't even 'spring' once. Everything was very socially distanced yet still warming, welcoming and pleasant. We had our own walk way through to our private meadow where there were "the ladies" the egg laying chickens and there were also the ducks, just 3 of each if i remember correctly. We walked through an apple orchard and our pod was on the top of the hill, it was dark on our arrival so we got settled in, it was perfectly warm in the pod and everything is very cleverly stored so everything fits and yet nothing feels cramped. Very clever. In the morning we woke up to one of the more beautiful views we had ever seen, as the sun rose, more and more landscape appeared before us, i whipped us up a freshly ground coffee (courtesy of barb) and we sat and watched more and more landscape come into view. We made a full welsh breakfast which was incredible!! And spent nearly all morning just pottering about enjoying one anothers company. It was my partners birthday and I was 5 months pregnant so we went for gentle strolls around the Haford Estate - as noted in the very thorough check in manual and additional info book. Whilst we were there, my partner also proposed, and what a beautiful perfect place to do so. <3 I would strongly recommended to anyone wanting to get away from it all, snuggle up with a hot chocolate, go on long hard treks or shorter calmer meanders and see some of the most beautiful sights the UK has to offer to go to Ty Barcud, you wont regret it.

Thank you so much for the lovely review! You certainly made the most of your stay and we were thrilled to hear about the proposal and see your ring. We wish you loads of luck in the future and hope you might return when you have baby's grandparents organised to babysit for you! xx

Welsh hills heaven

I can't recommend Ty Barcud highly enough, it was absolute heaven. The little pod is small but it's perfect for two people and has everything you could possibly need, everything has been thought about from the tablecloth on the table to the marshmallows and skewers for the fire, we couldn't have asked for more. Our favourite moments were sitting outside on the chairs and looking out over the Welsh hills, with the daily visit from the chickens and the night time quiet it was pure bliss. Our hosts Barb and Hugh were a delight, they were on hand for any questions or needs but otherwise left us alone to enjoy the pod and it's surroundings. Along with their very friendly dogs we couldn't have asked for better hosts. Having a few days away from the crazy world at the moment was just what we needed and this was the perfect place to escape to. We would happily visit again and recommend to any one looking for a relaxing and peaceful getaway.

Thanks so much for the  lovely review - we are so pleased you had a relaxed stay and you enjoyed our little pod! It would be great to see you back here and again sometime and in the meantime take care. Best wishes Barb, Hugh, Jac and Twm!

Exceptional, a perfect place to escape, unwind and relax!

We stayed 4 nights over a bank holiday weekend and can honestly say it was the best weekend break we've ever had. The accomodation and the setting exceeded our expectation, exceptional views over the valley, lots of private land around to enjoy, a firepit to keep warm under the starry sky and the pod itself was very cosy and comfortable. It's completely equipped with everything you need during your break. There's lots of things to see and do around, Hafod estate is definitely worth a visit, Devil's bridge also with it's stunning waterfalls and Aberystwyth is a good day out too. The hosts Barb and Hugh were wonderful and made us feel very welcome. Barb greeted us on arrival, gave us a tour and explained everything we need to know. And as it was our first wedding anniversary, we were greeted with a thoughtful gift too. Really can only give top marks for the place, thanks Barb and Hugh for making sure we have a lovely break. Hope to see you soon. Goran & Karine

Thank you for your fabulous review! We are so pleased you enjoyed your anniversary break with us and also that you made the most of our area. We would love to see you here again any time you are able to come. Best wishes Barb and Hugh xx

Well, it's took quite awhile for us to sum up the words of our stay with Barb and Hugh and perfection still doesn't do it justice. Barb and Hugh are amazing hosts and offer a spectacular place to stay. The pod was beyond immaculate and we had the most welcoming conversations with them both. The situation of Ty Barcud is idyllic. With so many nature walks and attractions close by, it's hard not to loose your head and heart here. We visited the neighbouring visitor suggestions and finished off every evening with a home cooked meal and drinks by the fire, followed by the bests nights sleep we have ever got. To wake up to the girls (chickens), the views and nothing but birdsong and sunlight was dream like. We can't recommend staying here enough. Everything is so well thought of, from access, directions, creature comforts, visiting advice, leaflets, DVDS, fire logs and Kitchen utensils. There is so much more to this home from home. We will be back in the future for sure, we were heart broken to leave. Barb and Hugh, thank you for a magnificent stay and making our staycation run so smoothly and without worry. If you are thinking about staying here, you won't regret it.
