11 green glamping site acres full of fauna, foliage and open spaces that young explorers will adore and parents will be quick to relax in

The folds of the landscape around Pant Yr Hwch Farm – home of Canvas & Campfires – seem ready made for glamping. A stream bubbles down one side of the small holding’s 11 acres, feeding its way into the River Grannell and also filling the small pond, while the slopes and undulation of the land creates a site of several natural tiers. At the top is the early 19th century farmhouse, beautifully restored inside and out, and an old stone barn which now serves as a holiday cottage. Then a slope breaks away, rolling down to the pond and an area of open meadow space where the new safari tents are found. For glampers with children the place is a boon. Look for birdlife in the giant, old oaks, roly-poly down the meadow slopes or take your wellies for a wander by the stream. For young explorers, you can’t go wrong.

The glamping side of things consists of just three safari tents, each sleeping up to six people and facing out from the hill to the opposing side of the Teifi valley, a mirror of woodland and hedge-lined fields. Inside they’re thoroughly well kitted out. There are two bedrooms – a master room with a king sized bed and a twin room with singles – while the remaining two campers will find their snug night den inside a cupboard in the living area. Open the doors and a double bed is hidden away. Sleeping in there is an adventure in itself. The kitchen is well stocked – crockery, cutlery and utensils are all provided – and there’s an excellent porch out front for dining on sunny days. All the safari tents have en-suite flushing loos too. So no dewy feet during the morning dash to the lav.

Venture beyond the cocoon of the valley, past the sheep and down the narrow country lanes, and the historic market town of Lampeter is a five-minute drive away. A cluster of independent shops and small cafés make it a pleasant little spot to explore, and the university there provides some real vibrancy to what might otherwise be a sleepy spot. In the opposite direction, meanwhile, it’s a mere 15 minutes to the beaches of the west coast and the pretty, Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron. A patchwork of colourful houses line the main quay, overlooking the dinghies as they bob between the harbour walls, and there are number of delightfully old fashioned pubs to be found. It's also a nice place to stock up on chocolate and marshmallows for your evening back at camp. After all, you can't stay at a site called Canvas & Campfires without an evening toasting marshmallows!

The Owner Says

Come join us for an amazing glamping experience in one of the most breath-taking corners of Wales. Experience rural wales at it's absolute best. Soak up incredible night skies, the sounds of birdsong, the culture, the heritage, the food, the amazing coastline.

Pant Yr Hwch is our beautiful, historic, 19th century 11 acre smallholding in stunning rural Wales.

We are a family and dog friendly site, although children and dogs are not compulsory!

We have three stunning safari tents, all equipped with wood burning stoves, comfy beds, sofas, flushing toilets and running water. One of our tents 'Seren' has a wood-fired hot tub.  The tents are located in a southwest facing part of the farm with amazing views.

On the site we have a small flock of rare breed Toddu (Welsh mountain badgerfaced) sheep, a plucky bunch of chickens, an adventurous cat, and a daft dog.   The site is host to a huge array of wildlife, including a pair of red kites who spend most of their time in the trees and sky above the farm and an incredibly brave woodpecker we have named Woodington.

We are just 5 mins from the historic University town of Lampeter. 15 mins from the beautiful Georgian harbour town of Aberaron, 15 mins from the stunning Brechfa forest, and just 30 mins from the beautiful beaches of Llangranog, Tresaith and Aberporth. There is loads to do nearby but if you want to venture slightly further afield you can explore the Cambian uplands, the Brecon Beacons, Cardigan, Aberystwyth, Pembrokeshire, the Elan Valley and the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park.

Bring the family or friends (dogs count too) or just come alone. Lose yourself, find yourself, walk, eat, sleep, read, run, dance, sing, climb....whatever you like really! Just come and enjoy yourselves in wonderful Wales.

What a fantastic weekend experience. I am not a camper and this is not camping!

Believe it or not the tents exceed the expectations created by the photos on the website. Every fine detail has been thoroughly considered and catered for by your hosts Ellie and Dan and their delightful daughters. The view from the tent was spectacular and you'll feel very much back to nature. In the tranquility of the setting it was so relaxing to hear the distant sound of sheep, galloping horses and birdsong. It rained, but this meant we had the benefit of feeling we were under canvas, and with the wood burning stove burning brightly adding light and warmth, not once did the weather dampen our spirits. It did mean we had to postpone our dolphin watching for our next visit (and we'll certainly be visiting again!), but we can thoroughly recommend a visit to the local gold mines- well worth a visit. We stopped in Seren which has its own hot tub and the weather was kind enough to us not to rain in the evening. How wonderful it was to see the sunset, relaxing in a hot tub, then toasting marshmallows in the fire pit, and continuing relaxing inside on comfortable sofa and scatter cushions in the warmth of the wood burning stove. The quality and comfort of the beds is first class and having running water and a flushing toilet in your own tent is fantastic. The kitchen is well equipped with a big chest cool box that is extremely effective with ice packs swapped daily in the 'honesty shop' close by. I can't recommend it enough and look forward to our next visit.

Book NOW! An amazing holiday

Wow! This word was said a lot throughout our stay. Ellie and Dan have done a fantastic job with the safari tents, it really is a home from home. We are keen campers but this has made us think twice about ever putting up our own tent again. Just to give you an idea of what you may find: The beds are beautiful to look at and are so comfortable, the bed linen felt like something you would find in a 5* hotel, a flushing toilet in the tent, running water, lovely wood burning stove, fully kitted out kitchen and hot showers in a nearby cabin. All of this set in a stunning, quiet place where you can find free range chickens and sheep, a friendly cat and happy dog. You are able to help feed the animals and there are unique touches like a very professional bug hunting kit (upon request) which kept our kids entertained for hours. We felt the children were very safe exploring the magnificent grounds as they keep cars away from public areas. To be honest, we would only see the children occasionally running from one side of the field to the other as they were making dens, bug hunting, climbing trees, rolling down hills and running around, which meant they slept well and were very content. Happy children = happy parents. Ellie, Dan, Lyra and Isis are a lovely family that welcome you but give you the freedom to enjoy your holiday. We also visited a nearby seaside town called Aberaeron. We spent a long time climbing rocks, finding shells, taking in the views and went for a nice lunch in The Hive. We will not hesitate to book again and will be recommending it to all friends and family.
