Somewhat upgraded from its original use as vegetable transport from Lanark to Glasgow Central, the railway carriage has been completely rebuilt as a cosy hut for 2 with all the creature comforts you would need for a few days away. Snuggled away in a private corner of the site, the carriage feels cosy and private, but with stunning views

The Owner Says

The Railway Carriage boasts an elevated king-size Bed with ample storage underneath for cases and bags. The bed recess itself has a letterbox window with views to the west as far as Loch Tay and to the north to the southern cairngorms - all without leaving your duvet! With crisp white sheets and pillow cases, luxurious pocket sprung mattress and built in reading lights you might not want to stray far from the comfort of your bed.
However if you do climb down, the carriage also houses a unique wriggly tin wet room incorporating a rainfall shower, rustic galvanised basin and flushing toilet. There is a refrigerator to chill your wine, 2 gas hobs for warming your food and a wood burning stove to warm your toes after a day of adventures and create a cosy atmosphere. The elevated stove is a real feature of the carriage with the large window offering atmospheric flickering glows and crackles on a colder night. A bag of logs and fire lighting equipment is provided on your arrival and if required, more logs are available for purchase on site.
To keep as low impact as possible, the railway carriage is off grid, with all electrical power provided by the sun and converted using solar panels. To compliment this, lighting within the carriage is managed by an off grid 12V system incorporating very low energy LED lights as well as bulkhead lights for the steps and outdoor space.
The carriage includes general cooking utensils pots and pans as well as ample cutlery and crockery for 2. Outside the carriage you will find a table and chairs as well as a fire pit complete with a tripod grille for al fresco cooking when the weather allows.
Dogs are NOT allowed.

Nearby

Muiredge is situated next to heather woodland that's ideal for ramblers embarking on countryside walks. Elsewhere, the historic Tullibardine Chapel (0131 668 8600) is a five-minute walk away from the site, culturally significant due to it being one of few Scottish churches that remained mostly in-tact following the Reformation of 1560. Gleneagles (01764 662231) is an impressive five-star luxury hotel with a range of bookable activities to enjoy, from golf on the staggering King's Course through to horse-riding, shooting, fishing, and a relaxing spa. if you have the little ones with you, be sure to check out the Blair Drummond Safari Park (01786 841456), a 25-minute drive from the site that's home to over 350 rare and exotic animals. Stirling Castle (01786 450000) is also a 25–30 minute drive away, providing an excellent family day out in one of Scotland's most important castle; having been the location of the crowning of several Scottish kings and queens.

Food & Drink

Jon and Fernanda (01764 662442) is a mile away from the site, arguably the most popular fine dining restaurant in the small town of Auchterarder serving modern cuisine with a romantic atmosphere. Delivino (01764 660033) is around two miles away, a delicatessen that also specialises in wine. The Crieff Food Company is less than 10 miles away, with its food hall providing "nae bother suppers": such as cosy cottage pie, pork and mustard, and Mulay curry. The Kirkstyle Inn is around a 15-minute drive with a fully-stocked bar and food that leans towards the "richer things in life," as its owners would say. If you're looking to stay local, there's a weekly Neighbourfood market where you can indulge in local produce.

Fantastic glamping experience!

We stayed in the Sheep Run bell tent for two nights in September and were part of a larger group who had booked all the other accommodations at the same time - this meant that we had exclusive access to the barn area just for us. The barn area was great for the whole group to meet up and would be a must if the weather wasn't so kind as it was for us! We ordered a Chinese take away, on the first night, from Auchterarder which was lovely. We also managed to have a lovely BBQ, on the second night, in the field enjoying the lovely views and watching some nearby parachutes. The tent had everything that we needed in it - cosy bedding, towels, a lantern, comfortable chair and small table. It had plenty of space in it for the two of us and the private toilet and shower cubicles were very clean. Outside we had a wooden picnic bench, fire pit and BBQ. The kids had a great time enjoying the outdoors and so did the dog - we'll definitely recommend to others and try to come back again some day!

Brilliant set up!

We stayed in one of the bell tents as part of a larger group a couple of weeks ago. We couldn’t have had a better weekend! The tents and communal barn are fantastic, warm, comfortable beds and super shower and toilet facilities. Everything was clean and towels were even provided which was an added bonus. The barn comes with large table, comfy sofas, cosy stove fire, fridge, kettle, plates, cups, cutlery and even kids toys. A perfect balance of camping but with some home comforts! A fantastic time was had by all and we wouldn’t hesitate to return, we will be sure to recommend to everyone. ☺️

Top Class Glamping!

We had such a lovely time at this site. It’s all really new. The tents are ace. Beds are sooo comfy and big, with lovely big duvets. Towels provided and great private showers too! We had 5 of us in the tent; bigger kids in beds and baby in a travel cot. The added extra of the communal barn (free tea and coffee, games, log burner, comfy seating etc) is fab. Also free logs and bbq coals is such a lovely touch. I couldn’t recommend this place more and would work great for groups. We will be back!

A great escape for a weekend with friends

We stayed in one of the Bell Tents which was in excellent condition and the furnishings and facilities were perfect - the sleeping arrangements were very comfortable and the private shower block was extremely clean. Our children thoroughly enjoyed their stay. A lovely set up which is ideal for family get togethers with picture perfect scenery! Thankyou for a great stay!

Fun Weekend Birthday Surprise

Had a great weekend at Muiredge for a friends birthday surprise. Far exceeded our expectations of glamping. Residing in the shepherds hut was great, so cosy and comfortable with lovely bedlinen, towels even soap provided all enviromentally friendly. Lovely touch Susan, wild flowers in our accomodation. There were 28 in or company which included 6 children ranging from ages 4 to 9, they had a blast which did not involve computers or any electric devices, flying kites, going for walks, hide and seek, hula hooping, even adults participated, great hilarity. We had the surprise party in the barn, great ,should weather not be kind to you , it was to us. BBQ in the open surrounded by our tents and the most fantastic scenery. Both Angus and Susan could not have been more helpful, set up everything for our arrival. In a nutshell go for it get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy nature with a touch of luxury. Thank you to Angus and Susan
