Rural, family-friendly glamping with campfires aplenty and everything supplied

What actually is glamping? To us outdoor aficionados it’s one of life’s great questions and, like all big conundrums, the answer is brilliantly ambiguous. Well, it’s glamorous camping isn’t it? Camping out but with better facilities than sleeping rough. So a site with a ready-pitched expedition tent and a portable loo dumped unceremoniously alongside could be considered glamping right? Well, that’s certainly stretching things a little, but thankfully this new find has gone in an altogether different direction.

Set on a working farm in rural Worcestershire, Canvas and Clover is what true glamping should be. Owners, Matt and Wendy, created the site in response to their long-term camping wish – to go on holiday somewhere lacking in modern, gadget-ridden distractions yet avoid having to spend their time sleeping on the floor and arguing about whose turn it was to put up the tent. The resulting site is fabulous.

Spread around a meadow, in a quiet area of the farm, the 10 well-furnished safari tents are each set on a sizeable plot of land with a deck, firepit and picnic table outside each. Inside, there's a double bed and three singles, with extra space saved by separating the kitchen, which is outside in a seperate kitchen shed with a barbecue, gas burner, pots, pans and utensils.

On hand there’s a clean, modern shower block, containing six individual rooms each with a toilet, shower and sink, while a covered barn also houses a cosy communal space, with a stash of games including boules and giant jenga, children's books and a telescope. Not that much time is spent indoors. When the sun’s out, the field has endless room to boot a ball around or fling a frisbee, and the surrounding views – across open farmland garnished with hedgerows and mature trees – invite you out onto the footpaths that lead directly from the farm.

Indeed, the views make it easy to forget that the city of Worcester is actually surprisingly close by. On the way, re-route via the beautiful ruins of Witley Court, an English Heritage owned manor that was destroyed by a fire in 1937, but still boasts intricate parterre gardens and extravagant water fountains. Then delve into the historic county capital itself, boasting a compact and easily walkable town centre with a good range of independent restaurants if you decide to take an evening off from scoffing wine around the campfire!

10 safari tents, each with a double bed and 3 singles (all bedding and linen provided); covered decking area; picnic bench; fire pit (starter pack of logs provided); separate kitchen shed with BBQ (charcoal provided), gas burner, pots, pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery. There's a shower block with 6 individual rooms, all containing a shower, a toilet and a sink. There's a washing up area and a small shop that sells locally sourced and fair trade produce plus all the basic essentials. A small, covered barn acts as a communal space with sofas, tables and phone charging points.

The Cob House (01886 888517) is a short distance away where you can visit animals such as alpacas, reindeer, pigs and chickens, grab something to eat in the café, or take part in one of the activities on offer which include fishing and archery. The Severn Valley Railway (01299 401776) is a short drive away where you can board one of the steam trains and travel along the heritage railway. Visit the West Midlands Safari Park (01299 402114), slightly further away but well worth a day trip, where you can drive through the safari in your own car or join one of the tour buses to see the large collection of exotic animals that are housed there.

Around a 30 minute walk across fields or a 3 minute drive – you'll find The Red Lion (01905 620236), a country pub that serves hearty lunch and dinners with an afro-Caribbean speciality. Wow what a find!

What a great find Canvas & Clover was. We had never been glamping before so chose to stay 2 nights and we all had an amazing time. The campsite was perfectly sized for the children to run around but they could always be seen. The tent was comfortable and the duvets and USB port were a very welcome touch. The kitchen hut had everything we needed and the use of a shelf in the communal fridge meant that we didn't have to worry about trying to keep food cold. The toilet/showers were clean and plentiful so no queuing was ever needed. We lit the fire pit and had smores one evening, which both the adult and children loved. We didn't use the bbq but if we had stayed longer we would have. We had a fantastic time, great memories were made and would love to come back soon.

Great first glamping experience

Canvas and Clover gave us a great taste of glamping. Easy check in and overall experience. large tent with fully equipped cooking area and fire pit. Overall a quiet and family friendly place. Only critism linked to cleaning - my daughter dropped her toothbrush which rolled under the bed and it was then we discovered the amount of dust and dirt under there - needed a good sweep and clean and hadn’t been touched for a while!! Thanks for a lovely stay!

Lovely spacious campsite, good facilities

We stayed for thee nights and had a great time. Lots of space for the kids to run around safely, play football, frisbee and rounders. Our boys had fun with the large plastic barrels left out on the field as well as the pedal buggy and the table tennis. We loved being able to have a barbecue and we brought marshmallows and choc digestives to make 'smores in front of the evening fire. Great to have the porch to shade from the sun and the drizzle. Nearby Worcester is a. good visit as well as the Malvern Hills, and worth a trip to the local farm shops, plenty to do. Would recommend.

Camping in style!

Stunning and quiet campsite with brilliant facilities! Beds were super comfy, kitchen had everything you'd need, the wood supply was helpful and we all had a great time. Matt and Wendy are friendly and helpful (we were the forgetful guests with some key items but M and W sorted us out!) and the pizza oven on Sunday night from the back of Matt's tractor was delish. Plenty of places near the farm for wild swimming and paddle boarding, although the locals though we were mad! Thanks so much for a gorgeous week's stay.

A wonderful experience from start to finish

What is not to love... excellent communication from booking and friendly flexible owners, beautiful setting, gorgeous spacious tents with everything you need for a relaxing and easy break away. So peaceful. Clean and comfortable. We went as family but would equally enjoy as a couple. Just fantastic and we will go back. Thank you, wonderful memories made :)

Lovely weekend on a great site

We had such a a lovely weekend at Canvas and Clover. The tents were great and the sheds well equipped. The site itself was lovely and open and the kids had an absolute blast running around and playing football. Communal facilities were great and given the current circumstances we were allocated our own shower room which was clean and there was plenty of sanitizer available. On the Friday we had the pizzas cooked on site which were excellent and a great idea for when you’ve first arrived. We’d love to return again and I’ll definitely be looking for next year!

Lovely family friendly place

We got back from our stay today and have already got 2 more visits ready to book! Very clean, family friendly place. Matt and Wendy are lovely and very helpful! Came with everything you need. The tent was spacious, and the beds were very comfy. The bathrooms are clean and well looked after. Highly recommend a stay here!

Fabulous weekend

We have just returned from a weekend at Canvas and Clover and had a great time! This site is ideal for families. Check in was contactless and easy thanks to the thorough pre arrival info sent by Wendy. Our tent was lovely and clean with comfy beds. The kitchen shed provided everything we needed for cooking. We had pizzas from their pizza oven on the Friday night and they were delicious! The system for the shower block was excellent. We were allocated a cubicle for the weekend which was cleaned twice a day. There was also plenty of santiser available in the communal areas as an extra precaution. The kids enjoyed playing football and running around the large field. We enjoyed our evenings sitting round the fire pit toasting marshmallows. Wouldn't hesitate to come back in the future, great weekend!

Fantastic family clamping trip

This place is a gem. We met up with family for 2 nights in August here with 7 kids aged between 1-8. Everything you could think of needing is provided, and more!! The kids roamed free the whole time and enjoyed playing on the barrels, and football area. We loved the fire pits, and were really warm in the tents at night. The little sheds were great as well - somewhere to stand up and prepare/ cook food. We had delicious pizzas from their pizza oven on the Friday night too. Matt allowed the kids to investigate the edge of his maize field and to try some sweetcorn, which they are still talking about. I was worried that our youngest might wake up other campers but the tents are well spaced out, and I took him to play in the undercover area in the morning where there were plenty of toy cars to keep him occupied. The toilet block is definitely campsite toilets but they're fine and showers were hot so no complaints. We won't hesitate to come back again next summer!

Amazing Glamping Experience

During June 2016 we hired the whole site to celebrate our 40th birthdays and were not disappointed at all. The effort and attention Wendy and Matt put into making their guests welcome and comfortable has no limits, they even got us a fridge for the alcohol (and milk)! The newness of the site and the facilities gave a fresh look and make the experience of camping for some less seasonal campers even more enjoyable. The size of the site is very big so even if you don't hire all of it I'm sure you can enjoy it with out feeling crowded. With 30 adults and children the 5 acres were well used for various games and also came in handy when Matt took us all on his quad bike which was a great treat for everyone, thanks Matt! We cheated and had a Sainsburys delivery to site but there are a number of pubs in the area which we went to one of which was great. Part of our stay included Matt taking us round their farm which was very interesting for all ages and one of our members even helped out with milking time! I would definitely recommend Canvas and Clover to others and would definitely recommend it for large parties who want to truly enjoy the Glamping experience.

Wonderful Holiday!

What an amazing place Canvas and Clover is, run by the fantastic and very welcoming Wendy and Matt. We've just come back from a week there and I can honestly say it was one of the most perfect holidays we've ever had. They have the perfect balance of a natural retreat to get back to nature, with enough luxury to enable you to kick back, relax and really enjoy it. The boys have had a week of tractors and fairy gardens and have loved every minute. We will certainly be going back, thanks Wendy and Matt xxx

What a special place!

We are just back from a fantastic weekend at Canvas & Clover. It was opening weekend, but you wouldn't have known, everything seemed to run so smoothly. The owners, Wendy and Matt could not have been more welcoming or accommodating, and the whole place has a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

There's only 10 tents in total and they have lots of space around them, so unlike some campsites you have lots of privacy. It was our first 'glamping' experience, and it felt very luxurious with a proper bed and duvet and lots of lovely finishing touches, like rugs and lamps. Each tent has a well stocked shed next to it with everything you need for cooking (crockery, cutlery, gas burner, kettle, cool box and even a barbeque! They really have thought of everything), but the visit from the fish & chip van was popular on Saturday night.

We have two children, aged 6 and 4, and they had an absolutely marvellous time playing in the field, making new friends, hunting for fairy doors in the woods (thanks Wendy!) and bugs to add to the bug hotel, and with the wheel barrows Matt provided. All that exercise and fresh air meant we all got a lie-in in the mornings too - which is unheard of!

I think my favourite memory would be of roasting marshmallows around the firepit in the evenings, with the fairy lights around the tent and the communal area twinkling. Thanks Wendy and Matt for creating such a special place. We'll be back!
