Glamping and alpaca trekking – it's a marriage made in heaven

Gone are the days that the Cool Camping team would turn up to a tiny, tent-peppered campsite in the corner of a run-down sheep farm. Generation glamping has come of age and today it’s cedar log cabins, shepherd’s huts and treehouses that are drawing the crowds to the UK’s top locations. Remarkably, while Temevale Farm does indeed boast these tip-top glamping offerings, it can also claim to have moved on from the ‘oh so last year’ world of sheep farming too. Welcome, instead, to England’s number one alpaca farm, the ultimate upgrade from hill farm camping of old.

Set within a 12-acre smallholding, Temevale Glamping is a secluded rural site with just two waterside cabins snuggled away among a scattering of woodland in a tranquil corner of the farm. Both look out upon the large trout pond and boast positively dreamy views when the sun is out and the waters sparkle. The log cabin, in particular, seems to almost float upon the waters edge, its covered veranda ending where the pool begins. And with a spectacular new treehouse overlooking the trout pool just launched (featuring fully-equipped kitchen, electricity and beds for up to six guests), Temevale really does boast something for glampers of all persuasions.

Inside, guests will find beds, cooking equipment and an electricity-powered, wood-burning effect stove, while outside there is a designated campfire space for all to use. It goes without saying, all duvets and pillows are stuffed with the finest alpaca fleece from the farm. Even the cedar log cabin and brand new treehouse are insulated with stuff (it's totally hyper allergenic too). You can’t ask for much more local than that now can you?

Though the accommodation on offer is a draw in its own right, perhaps the main attraction of the site is the activities on offer. Along with kayaking, rowing or paddle boarding across the pond you can also get hands-on around the farm, with excellent alpaca trekking sessions taking place every day. This chance to get up close and personal with the inquisitive animals is a must. The sessions take about two hours and involve choosing your own alpaca from the herd and taking it, by halter and lead, on a gentle four mile hill trek around the local area.

It may be a far cry from the camping of old but we certainly don’t mind moving with the times. When you meet the adorable alpacas and feel the super-soft pillows upon your bed, we’re pretty sure you’ll fancy sticking around at Temevale Glamping too!

Relaxing & Peaceful

A wonderful mini break staying in the Seeder Log cabin which overlooked the water and willow trees. Fiona (who looks after the glamping) took good care of us and showed us around and provided all the kitchen utensils and bedding we needed for our stay. We had an amazing day walking the alpacas across the countryside and fields and was provided us with plenty of information and we even purchased a little keyring of the alpaca we walked made from his wool! Cannot recommend this little place enough!

Great fun at Aplaca glamping

A proper adventure for our 5 year old during half term - and us big grown up kids! The facilities were fantastic- outdoor lounge area and kitchen were a real bonus. The rowing boat and canoe provided great fun and for once in the mobile phone and email ridden world I actually felt chilled out. Fiona was a really friendly host - lovely welcome.

Beautiful and tranquil. Loved every minute!!

Had a brilliant 5 nights staying in the tree house at Temevale glamping! The tree house was wonderful, it had the right mix of home comforts and outside experience. The site was amazing so beautiful and peaceful. Fiona was a lovely hostess and nothing was too much trouble! The Kids loved it! They enjoyed rowing and canoeing on the lake, chilling in the hot tub and building a camp fire and toasting marshmallows. When I asked them what they enjoyed the most they both replied without hesitation “the Alpaca trek” and for me that was the hi light too! I would definitely go back!!! Ps the dog absolutely loved it too!!!

Picturesque and perfect!

Stayed for 2 nights in the Shepard’s hut, with my husband and 12 year old son. My son loved the kayaking and foraging for wood for our nightly bonfire. This was the most relaxing 2days, even when our car broke down and Fiona came and rescued us. The perfect place to be stranded, we loved every minute of our woodland retreat.

Loved it

We got so so lucky, needed a quick break and a good cheering up.....and got exactly that! BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Everything was so warm, from Fiona's welcome to the hot tub to the communal fire pit. A wonderfully natural and soothing environment. I think I was actually crying when I had to leave. Will most definitely go again. ☆☆☆☆☆☆ (yes, that's six stars from me)
