About The Shepherd's Loft
Glampers only, couples, friends, small families – yes. Tents (unless as extra accommodation for a glamping family, by prior arrangement), campervans, caravan, motorhomes, dogs – no.
The shepherd’s hut is situated in its own private paddock and there’s an on-site pond, stocked with carp, which you have exclusive fishing rights to during your stay. The area is great for walkers with footpaths crossing the farm and a circular route passing through Frodesley and Acton Burnell, where you can see the ruins of 13th-century Acton Burnell Castle. For more of a hike, head for the hills: The Caradoc, The Lawley and Lodge Hill are all possible without using the car. From Church Stretton (eight miles away) you can hike up to some of Shropshire’s best known heights on The Long Mynd. There’s a National Trust car park and tea rooms in Carding Mill Valley (01694 725000) which is a good starting place for the walk. Wroxeter is 10 miles from site. There you can take an audio tour of what was once a thriving Roman city, now managed by English Heritage (01743 761330), and visit the family-owned Wroxeter Vineyard (01743 761888). Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Ironbridge are all within 15 miles of the farm.
Food & Drink
You can pre-order a welcome hamper (for an extra cost) with a few local goodies to start you off and there’s an honesty shop a mile away that’s stocked with local produce and homemade ready meals. The closest pub is The Fox at Great Ryton (01743 718499), three miles away and comes highly-recommended for its friendly hosts and great food. A mile further on is the award-winning Old Hall Persian Restaurant (01743 719100). For more choice head to Church Stretton, eight miles away, where there are several pubs and an Indian restaurant.
