Cosy, year-round roundhouse accommodation in the Shropshire Hills with far-reaching views and easy access to the Offa's Dyke trail

Set on a farm in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this brand new pair of glamping roundhouses was originally created as a handy stop-off point for walkers on the Offa’s Dyke path. The national trail passes a mere 300 metres away and the wooden, yurt-like cabins, set on a hillside with sheep-dotted views down the valley, mean you never need to leave the vistas of the trail behind. It hasn’t taken long, however, for Rolling Hills to reach a far wider audience. From families wanting a space where kids can run riot outdoors, to couples hoping for a quiet rural retreat, this modern hideaway in the hills has an instant appeal.

Fronted by a gravel terrace, where guests can sit out and enjoy the view, the two roundhouses each sleep up to four people, with a large king-sized bed and a pair of futons that can be converted into single beds. Above, a circular window allows you to peep out at the night sky from the comfort of your abode, while a wood-burner keeps things snug. A wooden-clad communal building, meanwhile, separates the two structures, housing inside a modern kitchen that all guests can use. It also has an excellent new shower room to accompany the roundhouses’s individual, en-suite loos.

While each roundhouse has a flat-screen television, the real entertainment at this site comes from its more natural assets. Within a 50-acre field, with a small stream running along one side, the area offers ample exploring opportunity for children, while, for any glamper that brings along an OS map, a world of adventure awaits – linking up with the Offa’s Dyke trail or joining one of the local footpaths for a circular route is always a good start. By car, the sleepy little town of Clun is an enjoyable place for a pint or picnic, with its 15th-century stone bridge and ruined castle creating a picturesque framework for the rest of the town, while nearby Bishops Castle has a clutch of museums and a market in the town hall most Saturdays.

Nearby

Walkers are in their element here. It's just 300m to the Offa's Dyke national walking trail, which runs then length of Wales roughly following much of the border. Some of it is also accessible via mountain bike and the surrounding Shropshire Hills are popular with those on 2 wheels too. It's 5½ miles to the beautiful old town of Clun, described by poet A.E. Housman as "the quietest place under the sun" and presided over by a ruined, English Heritage-owned castle (0370 333 1181). It's 6 miles, meanwhile, to that market town of Bishops Castle. The prominent 18th century town hall commands the main high street and hosts events throughout the year. There's also a clutch of museums and the Three Tuns Brewery (01588 638392) to explore.

Food & Drink

All the above towns have good quality places to eat. Try the White Horse (01588 418149) in Clun or The Three Tuns (01588 638797) in Bishops Castle. For something different, try a tour and wine tasting at KerryVale Vineyard (01588 620627), which also has a good restaurant, 6 miles away.

Opening Times

All year round.

The Owner Says

Rolling hills holidays is a small glamping destination tucked away in South Shropshire next to the Welsh border in an unspoiled valley surrounded by hills. A local family wanted to create a unique glamping site with roundhouses to share their love of the location with others. Rolling hills holidays is where adults can escape and find peace and children can get back to nature. The site is within a 50 acre field with a small stream running through it completely surrounded by farm animals, wild birds, rabbits, badgers and even deer at times, who go about their daily business. We wish to preserve the peaceful nature of the location so we all can continue to make fond memories just like we do with our family.

Accommodation

2 wooden roundhouses (sleeping up to 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children, if you have more children in your party and wish to pitch a tent next to the roundhouse then this can be arranged). Check Availability

Glamping in paradise!

We stayed last year, I believe we were your first ever booking (BIG apologies for late review - where does the time go?!). The round houses were superb along with the HOT powerful showers! You had everything you needed in the communal areas and the hosts were very accomodating but left you to it after a nice welcome and introduction. We stayed as one big family which was perfect and really enjoyed ourselves. We did BBQs in the evening and walked part of the Offa's Dyke track which is easily accessable. There were lovely little touches like already having some basic supplies in the cupboards which was great - especially as it it a bit in the middle of no where (ideal by the way) but if you had just arrived and didn't fancy going out this was a nice touch! Fresh flowers, games, maps... Thank you for your wonderful, secluded, glampsite - we had a great stay! Giorgia & family
