Blissful bell tent camping among the apple blossom of an organic orchard slap bang in the heart of cider country

If you're going to stay in cider country, then what could be better than glamping in a orchard? Almost half of the UK's apples are used in the brewing of cider nowadays and, here in East Herefordshire, you needn't travel far in summer to find apple pickers busy harvesting their fruit. Not that it's anything new. When Caesar invaded England in 55BCE, he discovered ancient Celts sipping on a sweet and pungent crab apple brew and it wasn't long before the Roman troops were shipping the stuff back home. Even in Rome they were celebrating the Herefordshire apple harvest.

Nestled on the edge of a small orchard of pear and apple trees, the three bell tents at Perry Tree Glamping offer a homely window into the scenic, cidery world of rural Herefordshire today. In late spring, the organic trees form a bright, humming backdrop of pretty apple blossom tended by busy bumble bees, while summer brings the full fruit itself, dangling appetisingly from the branches. The bell tents, meanwhile, pitched on raised, flat bases, look not in towards the trees, but out and over the hedgerows to the countryside beyond, while hammocks, suspended between tree trunks provide an extra spot for kicking back and taking in the view.

The decision to keep the glamping site to just three bell tents affords ample privacy and gives it all a rather exclusive feel. It's matched, of course, by some of the luxuries involved. Inside, the bell tents have proper double beds, wood-burning stoves and the obligatory dressing of fairy lights and bunting, while, outside, the facilities – toilets, showers and an area for your campfire – still ensure it all has an outdoorsy, 'camping' ambience. Belinda the donkey, who chomps her way through the adjacent field certainly approves. She's also a big fan of all the new found attention.

If you're not sampling local tipple on one of the nearby cider tours, then walking in the Mendip Hills or touring the historic towns – the timbered buildings of Ledbury or the grand cathedrals of Hereford and Worcester – is always a safe bet to occupy your time. Perry Tree Glamping also welcomes you to bring your bikes along so that you can really explore the area. Bring your wicker, handle-bar basket and you can even stock up on local goods, cider and crab apple jelly along the way. After all, when in Rome...

Bell tents come fully furnished with a double bed (linen, duvets, pillows and additional bedding all provided), a wood-burning stove, bedside table, chairs, fairy lights and bunting. There is also a cooking box containing utensils, pots and pans, and a picnic hamper with plates, glasses, bowls, a bottle opener and tea and coffee making facilities. Extra single mattresses can be added to accommodate children. Outside, each has its own fire pit and seating area. Facilities include showers, lovely loos, a washing up area, freshwater taps and tree hammocks. Say hello to Belinda the donkey in the adjacent field and, if the weather is right, you might get a visit from some of the farm's cheeky pygmy goats, too!

Suitable For

Groups and exlusive hire.

Perry Tree Glamping is a 10-minute drive from the historic black and white market town of Ledbury, where you can get all your daily needs as well as exploring the boutique independent shops. Weston’s Cider Mill (01531 660233) is just down the road, home to the world famous Stowford Press cider, or, if you’re feeling up to it, take on the Oliver’s Cider Tour (07768 732026) just 5 minutes down the road – an artisan cider producer not to be taken lightly! New Bridge Farm Park (01531 670780) is great for the family – think tractor rides, playing in straw bales and picnicking among the animals when the sun's out. It's also 20 minutes to Hereford, home to yet another cider tour as well as, more famously, grand Hereford Cathedral, which houses the Mappa Mundi (01432 374200), the largest medieval map in the world.

Food & Drink

Charcoal BBQ’s are available to buy on-site and there is a simple camping gas stove for use. Tea and coffee making facilities are also provided. Elsewhere, The Hop Pocket (01531 640323) and The Nest (01531 670816) are both around a 5-minute drive and both fantastic little farm shops to pick up all your locally produced supplies, while Ledbury (10 minutes) has everything else covered from large supermarkets to local butchers. The Majors Arms (01531 640261) is the nearest pub, 5 minutes drive away, and has one of the best drinking view points in the county, quite possibly the country. For something a little more refined The Oak Inn (01531 640954; 7 minute drive) in Staplow or The Verzon Hotel (01531 670381; 5 minute drive) are great choices.

Social Distancing Measures

We take Covid precautions very seriously and do anything we can to keep our guests and staff as safe as possible. Since the outbreak, we have scaled back our bookings in order to give people plenty of space and ourselves time to deep clean the site. Following on from last year, we will again be implementing the '24 hours between bookings' policy. Whilst some of the soft furnishings and other items have been removed, we have found that this does not detract from the experience. Our standards are higher than ever, and we strive to provide groups with an unique stay in the great outdoors.

3 luxury canvas bell tents (6m diameter) – 2 tents sleep up to 5 each and 1 sleeps up to 4. All have their own secluded feel, amongst the orchard. Can accommodate 14 people in total.

Fabulous, relaxing glamping experience

We were lucky enough to have exclusive use of this gorgeous site as a group of three families. From the moment we arrived and bundled our things into the wheelbarrows to take down to the tents we knew it was going to be special. The location is stunning, surrounded by beautiful countryside and wildlife - the birdsong in the morning (plus owls and pheasants overnight) is amazing! The tents are lovely, spacious and comfortable with lots of nice little touches - just make sure you take an extra blanket or too if you're the type to get chilly overnight! The animal trailer to cook in was also perfect. The children had loads of space to burn about on their bikes and they LOVED all the farm animals. They were even allowed to get up-close-and-personal during the sheep shearing. Thanks Ed for being brilliant with the kids and giving them (and us adults) such a great experience.

Beautiful getaway from London!

We stayed at Perry Tree as a group of 5, and had the best weekend! We had more than enough room in our spacious tent and the site itself is beautiful, with plenty of room to relax around the site. The area is filled with extra touches including an outdoor firepit, hammock, and animals to visit. Ed was an absolutely fantastic host who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy. One of our days was pouring rain, and Ed brought over a covered trailer for us to cook in as well as extra wood for us to stay warm in our tent. The area has plenty of nearby activities, but the site is more than equipped if you want a relaxing weekend! We cannot wait to stay here again. :)

Perfect, peaceful and relaxing.

My boyfriend and I came to stay in Stoke Pippin for a quiet late summer/early autumn retreat. We don’t drive, which was fine for us as we brought all we needed and wanted maximum relaxation for our three days, but would definitely say driving is essential if you want to go out and do activities as there isn’t public transport. We loved the attention to detail in the bell tent furnishing and facilities - so many different ways to cook and all the essentials provided. Ed has thought of everything and was always on hand to help or offer anything we needed. Sleeping in a proper bed with the wood burner crackling away makes for a great night’s sleep. Hot showers and proper loos were welcome. Gorgeous place and ideally positioned for watching the sunset, stargazing, moonlit strolling and blackberry picking. Murphy the horse and Belinda the donkey were adorable neighbours. You can make your visit as action packed or as tranquil as you want, and you barely need to bring anything but a spare torch and a towel. Didn’t want to leave!

Peaceful break

My husband and I are fair weather campers at best and this was exactly what we wanted/needed. The site is remote enough to be really peaceful but close enough to amenities to make it easy to pick up essentials and generally get out and about. The setup is great with everything you need for a short camping stay. The owners are welcoming and more than happy to help with anything. You still feel like you’re camping, you just don’t have the hassle of putting up/taking down a tent or bringing boxes and boxes of equipment. Sleeping in a proper bed is always a bonus!

Welcoming, friendly, relaxing and beautiful...

Great location with everything you need...Ed was a very friendly and thoughtful host who made sure you had everything you needed. As a family we enjoyed walking at Symonds Yat Rock, Horse Riding at Noakes Farm Riding Center, exploring Eastnor Castle and clay modeling at Eastnor Pottery along with discovering the history of Hereford. The tents where simple but beautifully set up and we made use of all the diverse cooking facilities by boiling the kettle for a cuppa on the gas hob, BBQ dinner and then roasting marshmallows over the fire pit of an evening. It is the perfect location for a small gathering of friends and family to make the most of the secluded location while only a stones throw away from anything you need. We will definitely visit again and hope to bring some friends with us next time!

We stayed at Perry Tree as a family of 4. We really had a fab few days despite storm Francis!!! Ed was so super helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The bell tent and facilities are all well thought out and the setting gorgeous. We would love to return to Perry Tree Glamping in the future.

Idyllic setting

An idyllic setting for a few days away. Only 3 tents on site in a spacious orchard with glorious views. The tents are clean and comfortable and have everything you need. Comfortable double bed, bunting, fairy lights, candles and an indoor log burner - incredibly charming and romantic. The whole set up is very well thought through and all you need to bring with you is a towel and a torch. Ed is readily contactable before your stay and was on hand during our visit should we have had any questions or requests. The absolute highlight for me was the hammock for each tent under the trees! I would love to visit again and may never go "proper" camping again!

Relaxed stay in beautiful countryside.....

We had a great stay in Stoke Pippin at Perry Tree, which is well equipped with all you need for a Glamping break! Beds were very comfortable and the tents quite roomy! The hammocks under the Apple trees make for a superb lazy afternoon read or snooze! It’s a good idea to take some additional fold up seating for outside around the fire pit! The location is fabulous with great shops, pubs and restaurants only a short car journey away. It’s a good idea to pre-book any tours of cider factories or distilleries if of interest, as they get very busy! Last but not least Ed is the friendliest and most helpful host you could ask for!

Perfect glamping getaway!

We had a great long weekend at Perry tree glamping. The site is perfect for a small group as you then have the entire site to yourselves. It's a beautiful location with great views and loads of space under the trees around the orchard. The animals- donkey, horse AND pygmy goats are also a welcome addition! The tents/facilities are well stocked with everything you need for cooking a nice meal, having a good wash and relaxing in a hammock! Making it perfect for a comfortable stay but also getting back to nature. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic little glamping getaway

Really lovely getaway for our family plus my sister and her family. As we had booked 2 tents Ed held off booking the third tent so we had the place to ourselves. V peaceful pretty little orchard, kids could roam freely without any need to worry. The pygmy goats kids on the adjoining farm were definitely a highlight for our 4 year old (she would have snuck one in her bag if she could). Would highly recommend.

Perfect weekend

We had a fantastic time at Perry Tree Glamping. The setting is magical: peaceful, completely secluded and with stunning views. The glampsite has all the amenities you could want - cooking equipment, toilets and warm showers, proper beds etc - without making it feel like you’re too far from nature. Ed was incredibly helpful throughout, from answering questions about the booking to coming and jumpstarting our car on the last day. It was perfect for our group of adults celebrating a birthday, but would work amazingly for families too. It was especially good during corona times as we booked the whole site so didn’t need to worry about other guests. Couldn’t recommend more!

Magical weekend in the perfect setting

I couldn’t recommend Perry Tree Glamping more. The location is beautiful, the campsite immaculate and with all the amenities and comforts you could want without losing the feeling of being close to nature. It was ideal for a group of adults but would also be perfect for three or so families. We booked the whole campsite so had total privacy for our group, which considering Covid-19 was particularly important. Ed was so helpful at every stage of the booking and throughout our stay, and really made the experience magical. We booked all three bell tents

Fantastic Weekend

Host: Ed was so helpful and friendly. He promptly responded to emails before we arrived giving me lots of handy tips and suggestions...super helpful for us first time glampers! When we arrived, we couldn't quite figure out how to get to the campsite from the carpark and Ed was there within 2 minutes to show us. We used up all the wood (it was a little chilly!) and again, Ed was there straight away to replenish the storage boxes. His complementary apple juice was also delicious. Location: Beautiful. We started the day with a walk around the Malvern Hills...the children soon stopped whinging once they saw the beautiful views! We then went to a nearby pub called the Wellington Inn for lunch - the food was home cooked and delicious. It was then a 20 minute drive to the campsite. Eastnor Castle is a 15 minute drive away and we were lucky enough to be there for the fireworks competition, which were truly amazing. Campsite: We booked all 3 belltents, so had the site to ourselves. What a bonus. We had no qualms about letting the children roam around the fields by themselves and they had great fun chasing sheep. We made use of all the facilities..the woodburning stoves in the tents, the firepits outside the tents, the cooking stoves, the fridge, all the cooking utensils....there was everything there that we needed (& more!). There are 2 toilet and shower cubicles...both were great, and exceeded our expectations in terms of what we were expecting. The tents themselves are homely and spacious..we loved the little touches like the bunting, the quilts on the beds, the tea lights, and even the 'bedside tables'. Ed has done a fantastic job in setting this up. Only one minor downside was that the sheep kept getting through the fence and leaving little presents of sheep poo within the campsite which meant we had to keep wellies on at all times...but I guess this adds to the experience! Summary: We can't wait to go back next year...says it all!

Laid back but with everything you need

Stayed for a weekend as a group of 7. Hired the whole campsite so we had more than enough space for ourselves. Good facilities and the yurts are quite big once your inside. Ample ways to cook including gas camping stove, BBQ or on the campfire. Really good laid back vibe. Close enough to the river Wye for canoeing and to Ross for a pub. Will definitely be back!

Amazing break

Thanks Ed for a brilliant weekend. We booked all three tents and had a great stay on this idyllic farm. Location was perfect for exploring and visiting Forest of Dean for a family bike ride. The tents have everything you could need provided and the access to fields for games and the friendly goats kept the kids entertained. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic weekend glamping with friends, very peaceful and great beds!

We stayed at Perry Tree Glamping for a 30th birthday celebration. As there were 11 of us, we booked all three tents, which meant we had the whole site to ourselves. Everyone had such a great time. The views and sunsets in the evenings were awesome, and the beds couldn't have been more comfy - everyone said how well they slept. There is everything you need here - from BBQs, gas stoves with kitchen utensils and pans, fire pits outside and wood burners inside the tents. The toilets and showers were great - very clean and it was lovely to have a lovely warm shower in a morning. There is a fridge/freezer a short walk away (a few minutes) which is available for use, great for keeping all your drinks cool - I'd recommend also bringing a cool box and a couple of bags of ice too so you don't have to walk to the fridge each time you want a beer! We pre-booked some taxi's into Hereford (approx £25 each way) and spent the day there at a beer festival. Taxi's are a similar price to Ledbury. We had 4 people per tent, and there was still plenty of room to stand up and move around. Ed was very helping during the booking process, was quick answering questions, and came to meet us on arrival to make sure we had everything we needed. A great weekend away!

A beautiful and peaceful site surrounded by countryside with far reaching views and the most amazing sunsets. We sat late into the evening around our campfire watching the sun go down across rolling hills. The tents were immaculate and well stocked, and the beds incredibly comfortable. We loved the fact that there were only 3 tents on the whole site, and of course the 3 Pygmy goats who provided much entertainment for the children. Ed was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. It was well located for Ledbury, which had all amenities and lots of lovely cafes and interesting shops. As we weren’t far from the River Wye we did a half day’s canoeing from Symonds Yat, which was a great experience. We would highly recommend and would definitely visit again.

We had a fabulous bank holiday at Perry Tree Glamping. It was how we imagined and so lovely to have only three tents which meant it was extremely quiet and peaceful (bar our three children!). Ed (the owner) was extremely helpful before our visit answering all emails promptly and welcomed us when we arrived and checked we did not need anything throughout the weekend. The children loved feeding the goats with Ed. Everything was in good condition and it was well stocked with equipment. Loos, showers and washing facilities were clean and more than adequate (there were even scented candles in the loos!). All in all we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend. Thank you Ed.
