White House on Wye Glamping, White House Farm, How Caple, Hereford, Herefordshire HR1 4SR United Kingdom

Secluded tipi glamping in the Wye Valley set on a working, riverside, dairy farm

There are plenty of glamping sites in the Wye Valley but few can boast the level of privacy and the immediate access to the river that White House Farm can offer. Home to just a single, family-sized tipi – kitted out with beds, lamps, a wood burner and hand-made furniture – this working dairy farm is part glamping site and part rudimentary riverside retreat. Home-spun quirks include your own outdoor cinema (a taught canvas screen, a projector and a collection of good DVDs) and up-cycled pallets that have been turned into rustic furnishings. Around the tipi, meanwhile, the orchard setting allows for fresh apple picking in late summer and blackberry foraging along the bushes if the neighbouring cows haven’t already beat you to it.

One of White House Farm’s real gifts is a mile-long stretch of the River Wye that idles its way south east across the farm. A shallow, pebble beach runs down to the water – a prize spot for evening barbecues – and fishing is allowed. Alas, canoes are not provided, so you’ll need to bring your own to make the most of this ideal landing and launching spot, but you can rent them for day-trips nearby if you need. They’re available for hire both in Hereford, to the north, and Ross-on-Wye six miles south (both towns are worthy day-trips in themselves, too).

On foot, the river’s valley offers plenty more to uncover. The wooded hillsides are littered with good walking routes, while even exploring the local village of How Caple provides ample intriguing discoveries. The compact, medieval church, for example, is home to an original Norman font and 16th-centuy artwork from southern Germany (though no-one knows how it got there), while, beyond it, the 11-acre gardens of the Edwardian, manor house, How Caple Court are occasionally open to the public too.

Great night away under the apple tree

Tucked away and off grid with all the comforts of home. Twinkly lights inside the tipi and comfy double futon with lots of extra blankets if you get chilly (which we didn’t). We had a camp fire until late under the stars with complimentary marshmallows! The projector and screen was a fantastic idea and I can’t believe we forgot the lap top! It’s a great idea- we will have to come back again just to use it...!

Best spot letting go

Last September I went with my partner for a weekend to get away from London and we had the best time we've had in so long. The area breathes tranquility, the only other people we saw were a few cows and donkeys and we have felt at home.

Wonderful! Best Gift Ever!

We spent 2 wonderful nights in a tipi here last August. It's not too far from Ross on Wye or Hereford so it is great for going out for food etc. What a simply amazing stay. It was a surprise for my girlfriend and it's safe to say she LOVED it. Staying on a farm was a great way to get away from it all and you can walk down to the river that goes through the farm. We'll be back again this year!

Perfect Getaway!

I booked this as a surprise for my girlfriend and it went down a treat! It was her first time camping but they had everything that we needed. The tipi is very private (there are no other guests!) and it's really cool to walk down to the river on the farm. We also loved watching a film on the projector at night,.

We high-recommend this lovely farm!

We spent one weekend in White House Farm and we loved it. Our kids were really excited to spend a weekend in an Indian tipi and for us was a wonderful weekend of rest, peace and nature. The tipi has everything that you could need -even an outdoor cinema that our kids enjoyed the most- is warm, clean and Debbie, the host, was lovely with us. We will definitely come back next summer.
