A quaint wooden cabin, tucked away on a Herefordshire farm. Perfect for a romantic glamping retreat or year-round family getaways.

Private planes and heated swimming pools are more often associated with high-end luxury villas than rustic glamping cabins but Broadmeadow Glamping has managed to combine the lot. This glamping site in Herefordshire sits alongside the local flying club’s grassy airstrip so while you may not get to take to the skies, you’ll have a great view while they do. And when it comes to the pool, you can dive right in; we weren’t teasing you there. Glamping guests are able to book private sessions in the afternoons and, as there’s just one off-grid cabin and one shepherd’s hut, you won’t be short on splashing about time.

Situated just three miles outside of the county town, Broadmeadow Farm feels surprisingly distant from Hereford, surrounded as it is by open fields dotted with sheep as far as the eye can see. Yet the wooden walls of its Billy Goat Cabin are almost an ode to the Jacobean buildings that pepper the heart of the town centre. Like a strange hybrid between a beach hut, Scandinavian lodge and Hereford’s timbered Old House, the cabin is a wooden wonder. At the other end of the site’s small woodland, a little shepherd’s hut is completely different but shares a charmingly timeless feel.

Each is off grid but insulated for year-round use and has its own composting toilet outside. The shepherd’s hut is a dinky hideaway for two or three while The Billy Goat Cabin has a family feel. There’s a mezzanine bedroom above the main space (with a sofa bed) which is warmed by a wood-burning stove and, outside, there’s a couple of cute extra cabins kitted out as twin bedrooms. They’re perfect for older kids or friends to sleep in while sharing facilities. Both cabin and shepherd’s hut are stocked up with cooking kit and have a fire bowl and picnic space outside.

The real treat, of course, is that warm swimming pool, a short walk away in a beamed building by your host’s farmhouse. It’s the perfect place to spend the gap between returning from the day’s adventures and your nightly campfire or barbecue. And the adventures here are plentiful: there’s the Forest of Dean, Hay-on-Wye or nearby Hereford with its mighty cathedral. It’s there that you’ll find the famous Mappa Mundi, a 13th-century map of the world with all its centuries-old eccentricities. While it’s rather different from the way we see the planet today – sprawling open spaces with just a few, sparse settlements plotted on the old parchment – there's a pleasing symmetry with the peaceful world of Broadmeadow Glamping; a rural escape on the modern-day map.

Shepherd's Hut at Broadmeadow Glamping
Fantastic stay with lovely hosts!
We loved our stay at Broadmeadow. A perfect getaway with our families. Although the weather wasn’t as warm as we would’ve liked the fires within the cabin and out were plenty to keep us cosy. Sally was so warm, welcoming and lovely, an amazing host… couldn’t recommend enough.

Shepherd's Hut at Broadmeadow Glamping
Glamping
Loved staying with my family at Broadmeadow glamping. We stayed in the Shepherd's Hut and it was such an enjoyable stay. We loved cooking on the camp stove whilst watching the sunset and enjoying the fire pit and also had the most comfortable bed to sleep on. We were all pretty close to each other where we could walk to the other cabins to see each other but had our own space. The pool was an amazing facility, the kids loved it. I felt so relaxed since being here, Sally and her husband were so lovely and the views are just stunning, even at night, whilst sat around the fire pit, we could look at the stars and enjoy the company.

Billy Goat Cabin
Really enjoyed our stay. Sally was very accommodating - great communication and very welcoming. The setting is stunning and exceeded our expectations - secluded, set amongst the trees with a expansive view of the field. Highlight was the use of the heated indoor pool. Perfect for a getaway with a group of friends without all hassle of sorting camping gear. Thanks again!

Railway Wagon
Perfect for Couples, Families &Dogs
Fantastic set-up, less glamping and more quirky holiday let! Great warm railway cabin with far more provided than expected. The pool is fantastic and the fairy forest and tree huts a fun time for the kids. Would love to come back here just as a couple as feel it would be super romantic. Many thanks Sally!

From the host
Our 3 accommodations have been hand built onsite by Adrian. They all offer their own unique country views and are a perfect cosy rural retreat. Our indoor heated swimming pool is an added bonus at no additional charge to guests. The Cabin is one of three accommodation sites at the farm - the others being our handmade Shepherd's Hut - built by Adrian during Lockdown in 2021 - which is located the other end of our small woodland (300 yards away from the Cabin) and our brand new Railway Wagon which comes with its own shower and electricity situated in the corner of one of our fields. The site itself feels private and peaceful except for the times the microlights are taking to the sky which can provide its own entertainment! Our stunning natural backdrop is the perfect place to be at one with the outdoors. As mentioned above we have an indoor heated swimming pool which proves to be extremely popular with our guests. The pool is timetabled so that our Waterbabies clients and our Glamping guests can all enjoy swimming. We have recently taken great joy in providing a meeting point for close friends to reunite, a venue for a romantic marriage proposal as the sun set behind Hay Bluff and many opportunities for families to relax together whilst collecting sticks in the woods, toasting marshmallows in the fire pit and spending hours playing in the pool. We are 3 miles from Hereford but the impression is that you are well away from the noise, traffic and crowds of town. Some of our guests spend hours chatting, cooking, swimming and happily catching up and relaxing whilst not leaving the farm and others spend long days having outdoor adventures in the Forest of Dean, Symonds Yat and the Black Mountains. However you choose to spend your time here we are looking forward to welcoming you. Sally and Adrian Powell.
Nearby attractions
On site, the local flying club provides entertainment as they take off from the grassy airstrip close by (in good weather between 8am and 8pm only) and the swimming pool is open to glamping guests from 2.30pm each day. The little woodland, with dens and a viewing platform, is a bit of a natural playground for kids too. The site is close enough to Hereford that you could walk into the town centre – it takes just under an hour to reach the cathedral from your cabin (around three miles). The cathedral (01432 374200) itself is worth a visit – examine the Mappa Mundi and The Chained Library – and over the road there is a museum and art gallery (01432 260692), plus Hereford's famous Black and White Village with a trail taking in the best houses, including the famous Old House (01432 260694). In the opposite direction, it's a short drive to Snell's Fruit Farm (01989 730229) on Windmill Hill. They grow delicious strawberries and host Pick-Your-Own during summer. Further afield the market towns of Abergavenny, Monmouth, Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Hay-on-Wye will keep you busy or head south to the Forest of Dean for more rural adventures - such as canoeing, Go Ape, cycle tracks, bike hire, steam railways and ancient woodland. Oakerwood Leisure (01568 780111) is situated north of the county and offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as paintballing, quad biking and high ropes.  Walks such as Garway Hill, The Skirrid, The Sugar Loaf, The Black Mountains, Hay Bluff, The Golden Valley and Llanthony Priory are all nearby options for a day out walking.
Food and drink
It's a couple of miles to The Grafton (01432 355233), which is the closest pub for food, and a couple more to The Black Swan (01981 540295) in Much Dewchurch. The Harewood End Inn at Harewood End, The Axe and Cleaver at Much Birch, The Pilgrim Hotel Restaurrant, The Kilpeck at Kilpeck and The Tump at Wormelow are also recommended for nearby pub food.  For something really fancy, though, try the upmarket restaurants The Hardwick (01873 854220) and The Walnut Tree (01873 852797; book well in advance). Oakchurch (01981 500125) is the place to go for locally-produced meats, cheeses, wines, fruit, vegetables and, of course, cider, for which Herefordshire is famous. There's even a cider museum (01432 354207) in town, along with Weston's Cider Distillery (01531 660233).  For more local recommendations to meet your specific interests please ask Adrian and Sally.
