Common Drove, Child Okeford, Poole, Dorset DT11 8QY
It's perhaps the sheer space that is the most striking thing about Green Tourism-approved Bloomfield (Gold award, since you asked). With a maximum of just four families staying at any one time, this is a completely different experience to the more high-density campsites that are common throughout Dorset. With this comes a sense of quietness and calm that helps to characterise this place as a secret haven, hidden-away from the rest of the world.
Pitched atop timber decking, each six metre bell tent sleeps four, with a beautiful, king-size oak bed and two chairs which convert in single futon beds. The tents are comfortable, with sturdy oak-framed beds, bedside cabinets, rugs and lanterns; bunting and peacock feathers add a splash of style to the interiors. These homely abodes are clearly well-loved, maintained, and spacious, with ample storage room to tuck away those wellies after a day of rambling in the fields, as you dry off beside the roaring fire pit.
Each comes with a kitchenette equipped with everything you could possibly need, from crockery and cutlery to a gas oven and a cool box refilled with newly chilled ice packs every day. It would be a shame for those icepacks to go to waste, so do make sure the cool box is well stocked with plenty of local cider, perries and Dorset wines.
The other facilities are pretty comprehensive too; a compost toilet is tucked away in the bushes on the far side of the site and, for those of you who simply can’t be without hot showers and a hairdryer, there is also a brand new, completely solar-powered shower block, just on the other side of the field (complete with two flushing loos, basins and showers and a phone and ipod charging station for each tent).
If you wander off to explore amongst the flowers and trees, you’ll stumble upon some exciting finds. Beside the ponds, under a dense canopy of willow branches, a collection of hammocks tempt with the promise of an afternoon nap; children will no doubt be more interested in the rope swings that have been hung from the trees. Wander on a bit more and you may see Dave, the campsite’s resident peacock, strutting his stuff among the long grass.
Beyond the site’s gate, you will find tranquil walking paths, beside which wild berries and mushrooms grow in abundance. A climb to the top of the Iron Age hill fort that sits just behind Bloomfield offers the perfect location to enjoy a forager’s picnic whilst looking down upon this special spot.
The Owner Says
True organic, family glamping in the heart of the Dorset countryside. With just four gorgeous Yurts dotted across seven sprawling acres, peace, quiet and that all important space to relax in is guaranteed.
Lovely relaxing holiday!
We spent a lovely week at Bloomfield in August. The Oak yurt was very spacious with really comfy beds. Our 2 girls loved having the freedom to make friends, play on the swings and look for the deer. An amazing site with lovely hosts! Have already recommended to friends.
Beautiful, cosy and comfortable yurt in a very special place. We loved everything about Bloomfield - HIGHLY recommend and definitely want to return. Fabulous!
We had a great holiday at Bloomfield! Kids roaming free and quickly making friends with other campers. Hugh pitches with all the facilities you could want. A lovely rural, away from it all feeling on the edge of a quiet village yet close to the seaside, tank museum and other Dorset tourist attractions. We will definately be back.
Amazing- can't wait to go again
What a great week we had. It was lovely to allow the kids to roam free knowing that they were safe and having fun. The fire pit was brilliant and we had some lovely family time around it. John and Amanda were brill and very helpful. The kids loved the hot water bottles provide so much we've had to buy some when we got home. I would highly recommend Bloomfield Camping and can't wait to go back.
A week under the stars
I spent months looking forward to our holiday, after falling in love with the site online, and I am happy to say it did not did not disappoint in any way. The location is idyllic and you cannot fault the site in any respect. We had some wild and rainy weather - typical British summer! But we were so cosy in the yurt we just setttled in for a board game and a glass of wine and I am happy to report that I remain Trivial Pursuit champion, sorry Daren! Jon and Amanda have created something really special and it thoroughly deserves to be a long term success, not least for its pure value for money which is unique in not hiking up the price in high season like everywhere else. We had breakfast with a family of peacocks, they are adorable but watch your yurt door, my husband was woken up by one when I was in the kitchen! I also encountered one of the young deer that frequents the site, early one morning coming back from the loo- we stopped and stared at each other for a while with me holding my breath- as a lifelong townie this was magical for me. Can recommend the walk to The Saxon, friendly welcome and good food too. On our worst rainy day (it never stopped!) we took a drive into Hampshire where Daren went to motorcycle heaven at the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum, which was surprisingly interesting for me too, and the warm and steamed up cafe served cake in portions, the like of which we have never seen before! Other places we recommend include local Shaftesbury, a visit to Weymouth, and my favourite, Sherborne - absolutely gorgeous place with amazing architecture and shopping. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as Daren and I did, many thanks Jon and Amanda. Dawn

5 star experience
This was the perfect place for our boisterous 2 boys (5 and 7) who love to be outdoors. With the yurts being in such spacious pitches they had plenty of room to play outside the yurt and it was very handy being opposite the play area, complete with football goals and swing balls, so we could still see them. We also noticed Jon had built some dens across the site for the kids which was another nice touch. The site is very well thought out and comfortable for a weeks stay. The ponds were a favourite with the kids and they spent a few hours fishing with their dad. We would definitely visit again and enjoyed some lovely days out with a particular highlight being the steam train past Corfe Castle down to Swanage. Would highly recommend.
Ultimate rural relaxation
We have just spent our second weekend at Bloomfield and the great thing is it's so easy! We arrived to chopped logs, firelighters, a ready made double bed, tea lights, hot water bottles and chairs by the fire. Fresh eggs soon followed, courtesy of the lovely chickens, and coupled with a bottle of red and a few marshmellows for the kids, the fire, the bats and fresh air had us a world away. The site is very private, quiet and clean. There was plenty of space for the kids to lose themselves in the willow with their walkie talkies, play a bit of footie and have their first go at fishing in the pond. We lazed in the hammocks, walked to the pub, climbed the hill and it was only a 10 minute drive to a spot of wild swimming. What more is there to life than a fire, friends, a comfy bed, the stars and some fresh air. Thank you Jon and Amanda, you have created something quite special.
lovely Yurt - peaceful location
We spent the weekend here with friends. The location was lovely, so peaceful and quiet, views were amazing. The Yurts were spacious and had everything required for a 'glamping' trip, including a nice comfy bed. Facilities were clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything needed. Lots of space between Yurts, so very private. My husband spent time fishing around the two ponds, whilst I relaxed in the nearby hammocks reading my book. Such a relaxing experience and couldn't recommend it enough. Jon and Amanda were really helpful, approachable and friendly. Local pub within walking distance, always a bonus!!!
Great yurt, lovely place
Spent the weekend with friends in 2 yurts. Great, very spacious & comfortable yurts with comfy bed. A very large site with only 4 yurts meant we had loads of space and it was very quiet and private. Very well equipped but best to take some seats to sit round the fire after cooking in the Dutch oven. Site facilities very good and clean and even the separate compost loo was posh. John and Amanda very helpful. Definitely recommend.
A lovely stay
We spent a week's break here in June 2017 and were very impressed, even though the weather wasn't too kind. The new yurts were surprisingly large and because they are set in very spacious individual plots, we felt as if we had the entire site to ourselves. In fact the whole place gives the impression of being very well thought out, the shower facilities are more than nice, the campfires, the individual kitchen/dining hut/awning, the willow avenue, the ponds and hammocks all combine to create a magical and very restful atmosphere. And within walking distance are two pubs and an excellent village shop. Highly recommended.
Just returned from the most wonderful, peaceful, relaxing weekend at this fantastic site. All facilities were top notch- clean, well equipped bathrooms, beautifully kept site full of beauty. Our pitch was spacious, and felt very private and secure. The yurt was huge, with extremely comfy beds for both us and the children. The cooking hut had everything we needed, and the campfire meant delicious BBQs and lots of toasted marshmallows. I loved the fact that the dining table was under a canopy so we had protection from the sun and showers. The ponds, rope swings, swing ball and football pitch kept the children very happy and they soon made friends. Jon and Amanda, the owners, couldn't do enough to help. We will definitely be back- our youngest asked to go back next weekend, and even weekend!
A weekend of pure tranquility and peace
I have just returned from a glorious weekend at Bloomfield camping. It is in a very secluded area of North Dorset, surrounded by outstanding countryside. The tent and kitchen are well equipped throughout. The toilet and shower block are lovely and there was plenty of hot water. There was a fire pit and we had a real open fire and BBQ whilst stargazing. The whole experience was wonderful and I must thank the owner Jon for his kind hospitality. I would definitely recommend this site if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern living.
Sheer peace &tranquility
Just had a wonderful weekend in a small peace heaven. This site has all you need for a great time. I would highly recommend to all ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A little piece of heaven
I am so late leaving this review and regret this because truly Jon and Amanda have created a little piece of heaven. Nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside is this wonderful and magical little place. The perfect place to unwind and relax come rain or shine. The facilities are fab and if you haven't slept in a yurt before then you should put this on your bucket list, waking up in this beautiful dome just make you exhale and smile! I would love to come back and hope to soon. By the way we are a family of 4 and the kids loved it!
Yoga Get Away
My partner and I went to Bloomfield for a little rest and some space to do our own yoga practise and walks. What strikes you first is how tranquil the site is, how quiet and peaceful. Wildlife walk freely around you as you book in with the ever so helpful and thorough Jon. The resident peacocks will make a regular visit to your doorstep throughout your stay which just adds to the magic. Each yurt has it's own patch of space which is set well apart from the others, giving you privacy and the space to play/practise/ do whatever you like in your 'garden space'. The yurt spaces are in a kind of alcove surrounded by wisely placed young trees and shrubs. This isn't roughing it camping.. this is glamping but rustic style. You need not take anything with you! Everything from the solar powered showers, to the gas hob, to the kitchen sink are there and ready for you to just rock up and enjoy. We absolutely would recommend Bloomfield for any campers but it also lends itself so well to those who practise a little yoga or tai chi etc as often a space for this is missing when you go away. it's a blissful little place, run by a lovely guy who has put his heart and soul into it...and this is reflected in the space it holds.
A fantastic holiday
We arrived with great anticipation and excitement at the thought of spending a week exploring Dorset. Having had a number of communications with Jon via email we were greated with a very warm welcome in bright sunshine. Having ferried all of our worldly goods to our bell tent with the help of Jon, our two kids disappeared to explore. This is one of the many great many things about the site, there was so much for the children to do and they did it without us having to worry or be constantly looking out for them. Be that spend hours on the rope swings, play football, fish, play with the other children or make dens. The bell tent and kitchen were vey well appointed, and the firepits with a continuous supply of wood made our evenings and barbecues a joy. The shower and toilet block were great and just right for the numbers on the site. Situated within a short walk to two pubs, the amazingly supplied village shop and with superb views and footpaths up Hambeldon Hill there was really no need to go in the car at all. It came with a great sinking feeling when we had to pack up on the Friday morning. Our two girls had the best time, no tablets or phones in sight. They had had a great adventure. We look back with fond memories and forward to going back and this time staying in one of the Yurts.
Tranquil, peaceful rest
We spent a week in this wonderful place. It was most amazing experience. This is a truly peaceful, natural place. We were well looked after, the facilities are in perfect order and there was a lot to do for kids outside. Thank you Jon and Amanda!
Perfectly chilled, peaceful camping
We have just returned from a perfect week camping at this amazing site. The pitches are enormous, the yurts beautiful, the facilities are always spotless and the surroundings are lovely. Jon and Amanda have created a haven of tranquillity and thought of everything. Children make friends and run amongst the trees, play on the rope swings or play footie and cricket on the footie pitch. There are hammocks to doze on by the pond whilst listening to ducks, geese & peacocks. At night all you hear while looking at the stars through roof of yurt is owls hooting. The kitchen has all you need, the showers are hot and spacious & bed is comfy & cosy. This is a place where even with children you can completely relax. We wish Jon and Amanda every success and thank you for a great holiday. We will definitely come back.
Beautiful, peaceful and relaxing
We have had a great week at Bloomfield, fabulous weather, very clean and well provided facilities, lots of activities in the local area. A week "off grid" with the children spending so much time having fun outside, playing and enjoying the fantastic space, nature and animals. A great memorable holiday.
Amazing, Joyfull and great
We have been here foto a week and it was really lovely. Jon and amanda are very helpfull. Especially for kuss this is a great place because they can discover and explore.. A small site but lots off privacy! Really loved it!!!
Perfect first glamping experience for our kids
Despite concerns that our kids were too young to enjoy glamping (2 year old toddler and 4 month old baby) we threw caution to the wind (or the light breeze blowing through the poplar trees planted by Jon) and booked a week at Bloomfield based on the strength of all the reviews, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Our toddler spent the entire week barefoot, chasing butterflies and being fascinated by the composting loo (which was great given that we were potting training at the time). Being able to wander along the mown paths meandering through the long grass meant that she could explore on her own and always end up somewhere she recognised. And with the pond areas by the 'shower block' fenced off, we were relaxed about letting her run around. Despite there being loads to do in the local area with kids, she was at her happiest when she was having a ride in the wheelbarrow that the local farmshop kindly lent us to take our (amazing) food back to Bloomfield. That said, I would highly recommend taking a trip to Branscombe beach and hiring the beach hut that is available to rent through Jon & Amanda. We went on the hottest day of the year and it provided some welcome shade and a sand-free area to eat so we were able to spend the entire day there comfortably. Our baby may have been a little to young to understand the concept of glamping but she was certainly content with watching the flickering flames of the fire (for much longer than she would have been watching CBeebies!), and despite all of us sleeping in the same 'room' she (and her sister) slept like a, umm, baby! It's probably worth mentioning that the kids didn't go down until later than their normal bedtimes because it was warm and light in the yurt but for us that was all part of the glamping experience, and it just meant more cuddles and books in bed all together. Some brief highlights included; our toddler finding and seeing her first real frog, collecting peacock feathers (now on display in our toddlers room), cooking a curry over the campfire in the dutch oven, showing our toddler the yurt from the top of Hambledon Hill, getting an ice cream from an ice cream boat at Branscombe, watching the world go by in Child Okeford while eating freshly baked chocolate croissants from the village shop. One last thing to mention is that despite the description, reviews and photos I didn't have a proper feel of the layout of Bloomfield until I arrived. Everything is so well thought out. We were in Willow yurt and the nearest neighbouring yurt was probably over 25 metres away, hidden behind a hedge. We had a 30 second walk to the composting loo, which even our toddler could hold her wee in for, and a minute walk (if that) to the flushing loos, showers, washing up sinks and freezers. Thanks again Jon & Amanda, keep up the good work!
We have just spent a fabulous weekend at Bloomfield Camping and there's not much else I can add that hasn't been said before. This was our first foray into any sort of camping and we thought glamping would suit us the best. What an excellent decision to come to Bloomfield's. We were warmly welcomed by Jon as soon as we arrived and he took our luggage to the Yurt (Willow) in his trailer. Along the way he showed us the facilities and gave us all the information we needed for the weekend ahead. Everything was catered for in the yurt & the kitchen. The little extras made all the difference. It really is a home from home. The king size bed was so comfy with a cosy duvet, the futons for the kids (aged 15 & 13) were great with duvets & hot water bottles, tea lights aplenty, the kitchen well equipped and with coffee/sugar/tea bags/ salt/pepper/ cooking oil/ washing up liquid/ j cloths/ tea towels...everything you could possibly need. Such a safe, relaxing. chilled place to spend a couple of days - we would return in a heartbeat. Thank you Jon & Amanda :)
Easy, idyllic family camping
So much has been written about Bloomfield, but had to add to the great reviews. We spend a fantastic week on the opening weekend, staying in one of the beautiful bell-tents. Bloomfield really is an oasis of calm, return to nature delight. Really, the photos's do not do it justice! Our two children loved the space on our vast pitch, the swings the hammocks and huge variety of wildlife (peacocks, pheasants, owls, deer all spotted while we were there). This is, and always should be, about camping. But what Jon and Amanda have done is made it so, so easy!! If you are new to, or cautious about taking the family camping, this is the way to do it. All your kitchen kit, freezer, cool packs, beautiful beds and bedding, and tons of space to run round and have fun. A very special thank you to Jon and Amanda for what they have created and for the fresh caught trout for our tea - best fish and chips ever! We will most definately be back.
We have just spent a fabulous weekend at Bloomfield. The site itself is beautiful and so peaceful and great to be able to let the kids be able to roam freely and safely. The hammocks by the pond are great for relaxation. We stayed in one of the Yurts for the weekend and found it so comfortable, big double bed with soft fluffy pillows and duvets, futons for the kids which they slept very well on. The space between the Yurts is just right and the layout is well thought out. The shower block is great, 2 showers and 2 toilets plus a sink for washing up. Loved the fact that music was played in this block for a late night visit to the loo! There are freezers packed full of ice packs for your ice box in your kitchen. The kitchen (next to your Yurt) is well equipped with everything you need to eat on site. We used the fire pit to cook on all weekend, it was fantastic and great warmth when the sun went down. All in all it was a great weekend away and we cant wait to return.
Thank you Jon and Amanda
I'm really keen to write a review for Bloomfield because we have just come back from an amazing time away there. The only problem is that I notice everyone else has already mentioned the lovely hot showers, music in the shower block, beautifully appointed tents (or in our case Yurts), well equipped kitchen huts, plentiful wood for camp fires, stunning views, peacocks...basically if you are thinking about it, just book it, you won't be disappointed. Everything everyone has said IS true and the site looks even prettier than the photos. Thanks for having us Bloomfield!
A Magical World
Bloomfield is more magical than can be described in a review. Picture just 4 tents in a vast expanse of fields, trees, ponds, and wildlife. Picture yourself arriving to find luxurious beds, hot showers in spacious rooms, a well equipped kitchen-shed with sheltered table outside. Picture yourself wandering round the tall grass and fruit trees, discovering perfect reading-idylls - benches, hammocks, and even a bird watching hide. So much more than just a field with tents in, picture a carefully considered layout, which serves both beauty and privacy, a secret garden of space and fresh air. Picture a pond with geese and ducks; perfect for pond dipping, then secured at night so no chance of children or sleepwalkers wandering in! Picture meals cooked on a firepit, with the log pile replenished whenever needed. Picture hot chocolate, or a glass of wine, as the sun sets and the stars become clearly visible - try lying on the deck outside your tent, for a perfect view. Picture the wandering peacocks, the gentle background sound of sheep and horses. Picture rope swings and a softball area. With all these, you need never leave site - but with the Neolithic site of Hambledon Hill standing proudly against the skyline, who could resist the 5 min walk to its trail starting point? A gentle climb for breathtaking views. With a shop and a lovely food-pub also an easy stroll away, you have everything at your fingertips at Bloomfield Camping. The hardest part of a stay at Bloomfield is tearing yourself away at the end.
What more can I say that hasn't already been said? Bloomfield is without a doubt a haven of peace and tranquillity in this crazy busy life. The tents are soooo very cosy and comfortable (you would be hard pushed to find more comfortable beds at any 5* hotel anywhere in the world!)
We had the most amazing week and have never felt so chilled out. We were even treated to a meteor shower one night. Lying on the deck whilst covered in cosy blankets watching nature's own firework show is now one of my all time favourite holiday memories.
In short if you're feeling stressed and in need of some serious rest and relaxation this place cannot be beaten. My husband is a founder member of the anti camping movement and we had to really twist his arm to persuade him to come with us but even he could not fault it and did not moan once! I work in mental health and think it should be prescribed on the N.H.S as an alternative to anti-depressants! Well done and many thanks Jon and Amanda. We cannot wait to return.
There is no devil in the detail here!
Well if this is camping then I’m hooked. We can go on about this site but others have covered the features so well. Such as the clean showers and toilet block. The clever compost loo (which surprisingly doesn't smell). The tents are amazing; so roomy and with the thickest of duvets so you can’t get cold.
But what we would like to highlight is the great way you are made to feel from when you first drive in to when you leave. Jon and Amanda are the site owners and managers and attend to such detail never experienced before. They go the extra mile to make your stay special ensuring all the little things are covered.
Yes there are extra tea lights in case you run out. There are so many logs you can have an open fire whenever you like. There is washing up liquid because you forgot that! He will even transport your luggage on the back of his mower to save you the trouble. Even the amazing peacocks on site popped in for a morning hello to show off their chicks….so well trained!
So do go and experience Clamping at its best but be sure to ask Jon for his advice on restaurants, walks, pubs, cycle rides and even sea fishing, he knows the lot! We all had a lot of fun - Thanks!

Space and Relaxation
We have just returned from a lovely week at Bloomfield camping and would highly recommend it. We were unlucky with a week of rain, but not even this could detract from the beauty of the site and the friendliness of the owners. It is clear that a huge amount of thought and attention has gone into creating a place where visitors can come to relax and unwind. The pitches are large, the view wonderful and the landscaping and planting have been designed with immense care. The priority here is clearly not to maximise short term profits by having as many pitches as possible. It really did feel as though the owners have set out to create the kind of environment that is a pleasure to spend time in - and it is highly likely we will return.
We have just returned from our wonderful week at Bloomfield, Jon and Amanda have thought of everything, everything you could need, very comfy beds, clean and spacious Loos and showers, the music in the toilet block was very welcoming on a late night visit to the loo. Fully equipped kitchen with adjoining canopy and fairy lights, peaceful evenings spent around the camp fire, we will be back and will be spreading the word, if you enjoy the great outdoors, then Bloomfield is a must.
Linda and Richard from Surrey
This is the most gorgeous site, and it seems everything has been thought of! As we arrived we were welcomed by Jon with trailer to take our 'stuff' to a beautifully furnished bell tent. The king sized bed is even more comfortable than our own bed at home, and the kids (9 and 15) were both very comfy on their futons. The kitchen shed with canopy has everything you need (and a lot more!) . The canopy meant we could comfortably eat outside even in the rain. Even though the kitchen was so well equipped, we all agreed the fire pit was the best way to cook - and roast marshmallows and make s'mores! - and all the logs and firelighters are provided. The lake area with hammocks and rope swings were lovely (and fenced off so little ones wouldn't accidentally wander in). And the shower/toilet block was one of the best we have come across in our years of camping, large cubicles, music, hair dryer, and straightener, freezers with shelves allocated for each tent for food and freezer blocks. While we were there it rained! - but there is so much to do within an hours drive, come rain or shine. We will be back next year and keep our fingers crossed the weather is better!
We booked Bloomfields as firstly we wanted to try glamping & we also liked the ethos of not being ripped off by price hikes at peak times, like the school holidays. We had a few reservations about the fact there was nothing to do in the evening and the safety of the lake. We had nothing to worry about at all! I can whole heartedly recommend Bloomfields to anyone thinking about staying. The tents are wonderful, all the extras you can think of are available to you, like hot water bottles for chilly nights, down to firelighters to start the fire pit. We could sit happily and relax knowing the site itself was safe and secure and the kids could run free and enjoy themselves. They made friends with others on site and spent hours in the long grass catching crickets, fishing or feeding the peacocks! Not being overpriced, meant we were able to visit some of the local attractions, Weymouth, Kimmeridge for example. The local shop is super and has a huge selection of goods, including fresh baked bread, we ate at the local pub one night and would recommend the chip van that comes on a Thursday they were delicious!! Most evenings were spent round the campfire - chatting and enjoying life without phones and iPads! Hambledon Hill is definitely worth the hike, the views were amazing and our 7 year old did it with relative ease! Staying here really confirmed for us that in a captivated environment like a Haven site with everything handed to them on a plate kids are not encouraged to explore and try new things, and once they do try, they flourish. We will most definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful week!
Beautiful, relaxing and lots of fun
We, (myself, my husband and our two children aged 12 and 8) had the most wonderful time at Bloomfield, the setting is beautiful, there are quiet and tranquil ponds and meadows, hammocks to relax in and rope swings for the kids, quirky peacocks wandering here and there, friendly bats and owls and loads of space around each pitch for relaxing and playing. The Bell Tents are fab with extremely comfortable beds and gloriously vintage inspired interiors. The kitchen/dining area that each tent has is well equipped and being able to have a campfire every evening was wonderful, so many campsites don't allow fires or even bbqs so this was a great and the kids loved it. The showers, toilets and shared areas were lovely too but it's the setting that really makes this place so special, Jon and Amanda have made this place truly magical and I would recommend a stay here to anyone, even those of my friends who are completely horrified by the idea of camping would love it! Thank you again Bloomfield for a wonderful holiday. We hope to be back next year!
A Place to Chill
Bloomfield Camping is a perfect place to sit and chill and watch the world go by. It is absolutely beautiful with a wonderful view of Hambledon hill. It is also well thought out with lots hidden places to sit and read or sip a glass of wine. The facilities are second to none with endless hot water in the showers (are you sure this is camping !) as well as a well furnished kitchen. I loved staying in a bell tent and imagined myself as an explorer on an expedition in darkest Dorset. We cooked on the fire some nights which was great fun but also visited some of the pubs nearby which were first class. All in all I left the site relaxed and rested after our stay, I will definitely be coming back.
I stayed at Bloomfield with my 3 and 5 year old and we had the most amazing week for our first time glamping. The experience at Bloomfield far exceeded my expectations. We were welcomed by Jon who took our luggage up to the tent on the back of his ride on mower. The tent was huge, the beds so comfortable, the site felt nice and secure with only 3 other tents which all had children so they all played with each other. I loved having a shed kitchen with a proper gas cooker so I could cook meals. The undercover eating area meant we were sheltered from showers. The children loved the fire pit, cooking popcorn and toasting marshmallows. They enjoyed the rope swings and also the peacocks and peahen with her two chicks. I loved the hot showers with cubicles big enough for us all and the hair dryer was very handy. We walked to the local organic farm shop down a bridleway for our supplies of sausages. During our week we ventured to Weymouth for Sandworld and the beach, Monkeyworld, Swanage steam train and beach, walked up Hambledon Hill for a picnic and to fly a kite, Charmouth beach for fossil hunting and Tower Park in Poole for soft play (they also have cinema, bowling etc). I would definitely recommend Bloomfield camping and I hope to go there again.
"Dorset is Beautiful"
Our week at Bloomfield Camping was our first experience of Glamping, and we're hooked!! Jon met us as we drove into the car parking area and quickly showed us around the site facilities and got our various suitcases transported to our site. A great welcome, and the friendly approach continued throughout the week.
The tent, ktichen, fire pit and excellent shower block were all highlights of the site - as were the many friendly peacocks that we shared our stay with. A very friendly site, with huge private pitches and a real sense of luxury in a fantastic location.
Having not camped for quite some time due to a poor experience in the past it was with a degree of curiosity and a slight amount of trepidation that we came to Bloomfield, staying for a week whilst our son was playing cricket nearby.
The first thing to say is that our view of camping and staying under canvas has been completely turned around by the experience of the week. It was quite simply marvellous. There are a number of reasons.
Firstly, the location is superb. under Hambleton Hill in North Dorset, it was quiet and the landscape is lovely. Secondly the facilities are excellent, well thought through and the tents are comfortable with only 4 on site at the moment you have huge amounts of space. I mentioned to my wife that the bed is the best and most comfortable I have stayed in anywhere, hotels included. Thirdly, the other facilities are excellent with a good dose of eco-friendliness thrown in. Showers were hot, we never had to wait for anything. There is everything you could possibly want provided included tealights, coolboxes with iceblocks and a kitchen stocked with tea and coffee basics as well as hot water bottles!
There are a number of quirks about the place. Walking along the paths on site you'll come across Peacocks that inhabit the place. Being in a very comfortable bed at night whilst you listen to badgers wander around outside the tent is a very special experience! Don't leave food out or the kitchen door open!
Although we cooked over the provided fire on some nights, we also tried out the local pub, The Saxon Inn, for dinner which is a 20 minute walk through a green lane and path. That provides the icing on the cake for us being unpretentious and with good quality honest food when you want to get someone else to do the cooking.
Would I stay again? Yes, without a second thought. It was excellent and has completely converted us to living under canvas again Bloomfield style. Highly recommended.
Perfect way to get off the radar!
I stayed here with my wife and 2 children (aged 10 & 11) on 20th - 24th July. We arrived to a warm welcome from Amanda who immediately showed us around the site and the facilities: Shower/washing up/freezer block with a radio playing, Play area, Compost toilet (which was luxury as far as compost toilets go), our bell tent/kitchen/fire pit and finally the pond area with hammocks (which was absolutely beautiful). John soon arrived to transport our things from our car to the tent and then left us to it to start our holiday. There is ample space between each bell tent and is very private. Each tent plot has enough space for the children to play without being on top of you. They can also play in an area set out with a selection of games or play on the rope swings in the pond area. The site is left to grow naturally except for path ways cut by the mower and this allows an abundance of wildlife to flourish. There were a couple of wildlife books that Amanda & John had put by the freezers in the shower block, which my daughter made full use of, she loved them! The bell tent was beautifully presented, extremely comfortable and well equipped, as was the kitchen with its canopy to sit and eat under. We used the fire pit every night and there was plenty of wood to see us through the whole period of our stay (no extra charge for this, like some other glamping places we have stayed at)! We used Bloomfield as a central base and ventured out during the days to visit Monkey World, Durdle door/Ludlow and Weymouth which were all within an hours drive. This really is a special place where you can totally switch off from life if you wanted to, our bell tent (Oak) had no phone signal which was perfect for our family! The showers were hot and kept clean and tidy. There were plenty of ice blocks to go in the cool box and the site was extremely beautiful and peaceful. We ALL loved staying at Bloomfield and the children are desperate to return next year - we WILL be booking again for 2016! Thank you John and Amanda for creating this stunning little Gem.
Second visit to Bloomfield camping.
Went last year with my wife and 2 children under 10.
This year went with family and friends this year. We all had a great time.
You'll enjoy: Privacy; Your own outdoor kitchen and firepit/grate; Landscaped ponds with hammocks and swings; Hot showers; Kingsize beds with Futons for the children; Climb up Hambledon Hill; Roaming Peacocks; Taking things slowly.
Quality family fun
We had 2 tents for my family for a Monday to Friday break. 4 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 kids. This holiday was fun from start to finish for each of us. We loved that there are only 4 tents on the land which made it so open and free, particularly for the little ones. We felt safe. Every little detail has been thought off, kitchen fully equipped, tent with proper beds, storage, umberellas, hot water bottles, candles, lighters, some toiletries in the shower block, bath mat!! Hairdryer, straighteners, freezer blocks to help yourself too and freezer tray for food, charging points complete with lock so you know they are safe, I can go on and on.
The animals on site are lovely, the peacocks are friendly and we became friends! The 2 baby peacocks were adorable! Jon and armanda are lovely and helpful, jon did rides on the tractor, kids loved it :)
We had a fire every night and sat round toasting marshmellows, it really was lovely,
We had an amazing night time, weather was great but if not there is shelter and the tents are big to sit in at night if necessary.
We are looking at when we can go again, we had a wonderful time.
Beats a holiday abroad!
I'm not normally good at taking time to write reviews but felt that Bloomfield deserved the time as it is such a special place! We booked with short notice as my husband had a stand up paddle board race at nearby Boscombe. Jon was really helpful on the phone with a great knowledge of the local area and SUP as it turned out! Our friends also stayed and we had 3 children under 6 between us. The kids all absolutely loved their time at Bloomfield. They made up outdoor games, toasted marshmallows and not once asked for any kind of technological gadget! The tents are superb and the kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed sitting around the fire in the evening and then retreating to the comfiest beds. The facilities are spotless and everything has been thought of including hair straighteners! It really is a home from home. Locally there is lots to see/do with good village pubs and the walk up Hambleton hill was highly recommended by our friends. It was equally nice to stay on site as we were lucky with the weather and actually found time to lie on a blanket reading whilst the kids entertained themselves. We have had quite a few holidays with our kids but when you ask them where they want to go it is always Bloomfield! Just next time we will stay longer than a weekend. Jon and Amanda fully deserve success with this venture and we look forward to our next visit.
Not being one for "proper" camping and as a compromise for my husband who loves camping, we decided to try Bloomfield Camping. Sooo lovely! We had a great time and our 5 year old son thoroughly enjoyed his stay... the swingball and "secret" garden (or so he called it) with the swings and hammocks. The tent was spacious and comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. There are plenty of ice blocks available to use with the coolbox which ensured all our food was kept cool and fresh.
The view to Hambledon Hill was lovely and the general ambience of the site is of peace and tranquillity.
John was very welcoming and friendly and took our bags in the trailer to the tent when we arrived. The shower block was clean and well equipped and the shower was hot (hurrah!).
Our son thought the compost toilet was brilliant - naming it the Compostarium (after Mr Bloom's Nursery).
We spent a good hour so looking at all the butterflies and completing the Big Butterfly Count (we spotted 6 different species).
The fire pit (with logs and firelighters all included) was very welcome as the evenings were pretty cool for the time of year.
The site is well positioned for trips to the Jurassic Coast - we visited Swanage, Lulworth & Dordle Door, Portland Castle and Lyme Regis in the 3 days we were there.
We would thoroughly recommend a stay at Bloomfield Camping!
A beautiful place to glamp
This was our first glamping experience with our two young sons who are 4 and 2 years old and it will certainly not be our last. We wish we had booked longer than our 4 nights at Bloomfield as it is such an amazing place. Jon & Amanda are great hosts. We were greeted by Jon with a friendly welcome. The tents are beautifully furnished with very comfortable beds, little touches like candles, peacock feathers and bunting, oh and the hot water bottles were a much needed comfort on the first night when it was so cold! The kitchen is really well equipped and we enjoyed cooking and eating outside. Things we particularly enjoyed were the resident peacocks wandering around, the swings for the children and watching a barn owl hunting over the site at dusk. The weather was fabulous so we spent most days on the beach at Sandbanks (about 45 minute drive away) and relaxing on site in the evenings. The views from Hambledon Hill are fantastic and a visit to Compton Abbas airfield for breakfast is well worth a visit. All in all, we had a truly fantastic time and our boys have lots of special memories of Bloomfield. We will definitely return.
“This is our third year back to Bloomfield and once again we had a perfect stay. We booked all 4 pitches and stayed with friends which is a great idea as the parents get to catch up and relax while the children have the most amazing time enjoying the ‘freedom’ they get at Bloomfield. Watching them all use their imagination to come up with games and things to do out in the fresh air is brilliant. The children all slept like logs after hours of mini adventures & the grown ups slept well too after spending time unwinding in such a tranquil environment. As a parent it really is fantastic to watch the children have so much fun whilst being able to kick back and relax with friends. The local pub called the Saxon has a beer garden which the children love playing in and the walk to it through the lanes is also a great adventure. The walk up to Hambleton Hill is stunning with fabulous views, highly recommended to fit in during your visit. The accommodation as always is superb, Jon and Amanda have created the tents with a style that is totally in tune with the surroundings. Looking forward to next year already”
May half term long weekend
We visited for the first time for 2015 May half term. My son has a dog phobia so not allowing dogs was a must for us. Usually when we go camping we end up going out for days - anything to get out of the tent, but this year the site was so lovely we elected to just hand around. With there only being four tents it felt very peaceful despite having 6 very noisy kids amongst us. The kids quickly made friends and were able to spend their time ambling around the site. I also got to do some sketching - something that rarely happens when on holiday.
The tents were clean and spacious and the bed was more comfortable than the one we have at home. My son learned to light a fire for the first time and the smores were outstanding. We are already looking to come back.
A very special place
We stayed at Bloomfield for 4 nights in August and had the most magical time. Jon and Amanda have created a very special place at Bloomfield and we would highly recommend a stay. They have struck the perfect balance of the wonderful elements of camping (freedom, campfires, peace and space) and added the luxuries (the comfiest beds with snugly duvets, a covered kitchen area, lovely hot showers and many more) which make a difference. We can't wait to go back - best get booking before it's booked up!
Everything you read about Bloomfield Camping is true; quiet, relaxing and peaceful and full of thoughtful touches. The pitches are enormous, as are the really comfortable tents that are tastefully furnished with lovely warm and cozy beds. The separate kitchen has all you need, but the open fire with plentiful supply of wood has to be the way to cook. Nothing is too much trouble for Jon and Amanda who are justifiably really proud of this site.
Bloomfields was an amazing experience and one my family and I hope to do again next year. Thank you Jon & Amanda from the Voller family.
A special place!
We spent a week at Bloomfield with our two boys (5 and almost 2) and had a great time. It's a great glamping experience and the site and tents are well designed, it's really comfortable and everything is provided with an amazingly well kitted out kitchen (if you want to do lots of cooking on your holiday!). We loved using the firepit for cooking and the obligatory marshmallows and one night we went to the mobile fish and chip van in the local village, which also has a great village shop and pub. Farmer Jon (as my children called him) and Amanda went out of their way to help making sure that we had everything we needed and sharing good local tips for things to do in the area.
The area itself is beautiful and to see the boys being able to play safely, make some friends and get some fresh air was fantastic.
A real gem of a campsite!
A perfect place to stay
We spent a week at Bloomfield in mid-August with our two children aged 6 and 8 and had a wonderful time. The thought and care that has been put into the design of the tents, kitchens, playing areas and campsite as a whole was really striking. Everything worked really well, and the owners are still making improvements. For example, by the time we left more outdoor toys - including space hoppers! - had been added to the shared play area. Jon and Amanda were really friendly and helpful - it was rather chilly some nights, and when we mentioned this in passing, they provided hot water bottles for the children.
The children loved the freedom of playing around the site, on the rope swings, lounging in the hammocks, investigating the ponds and looking at the peacocks. It was a lovely spot for wildlife with martins and sparrows overhead during the day, and bats flitting around at night. There are also moles - and to my surprise, after noticing a mole hill moving, the children spent 30 minutes or more watching to see if we could see the mole popping up. We didn't - but they really enjoyed having a go.
If you get a chance, take a walk up Hambledon Hill just before sunset. It is a really beautiful experience to stand on this ancient hill fort, looking across the landscape in peace and tranquility. Bloomfield is a very special place, and I hope we will spend some more time there in the future.
So glad we did this!
We stayed at Bloomfield for four nights with our 5 yr old daughter and 4 month old son. We wanted something a bit more than standard camping especially with youngest being so young, and this site was fantastic.
When we arrived, Amanda came with a trailer for us to load all of our luggage into, in the car park area. We then headed along the mown path to our tent - Poplar. It was so nicely decorated with the most comfy king size bed and two single futons. The duvet covers were vibrant and the peacock feathers, bunting, and hand decorate jars with candles in made it feel so cosy. Each of the bell tents has its own mown garden, which are huge - perfect for when the children make friends and they want to play nearby, but also there are communal areas where the children can meet which can be seen from most parts of the site which is good. The tents are well spaced out so you also feel you have your own space.
The 'kitchen and dining area' was great. The kitchen is really well stocked with pots, pans, utensils and a super handy gas hob and oven! I'm not the best fire pit cook, so I was really pleased to have this. We did however use the fire to toast marshmallows to make smores and keep warm in the evenings!
The toilet block is great. There is always a radio on to keep you company if you need the loo later at night, but also, there is a great view over the site from the washing up area which is nice. The showers and loos were always nice and clean, and the water always hot.
Both Jon and Amanda were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Someone is usually on site, but without being on top of you, which is great.
We had a mixture of sun and rain throughout our stay, but even the rain was fun as the tents were so cosy, and we just pinned the doors back and watched it all happen. My daughter particularly enjoyed laying under the stars on our first evening. I would really recommend a visit here to see for yourself! :-)
A home away from home.
Well we returned yesterday after a super four night break at the campsite. My sister and I had been looking forward to the holiday for sometime and weren't disappointed. As soon as we walked in the tent we knew we were going to be comfortable with the lovely kingsize bed and futons. Indeed the first night was spent all five of us playing board games whilst snuggled up under the duvets - very Willie Wonka!!
The tents are really well equipped and the tea lights can make for a really cosy atmosphere when the sun goes down.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit and we enjoyed making s'mores (with chocolate hobnobs!) and BBQ'ing (although we forgot three sausages on the grill - think the peacocks may have had a feast)
The communal feel of the campsite was evident and the our children loved visiting other tents and playing with other children, i was pleased to read in the newsletter that a communal area is in the pipeline for 2015, I think this will be a super addition to an already lovely campsite.
The kitchen area was fabulously equipped and we enjoyed our meals under the canvas awning by candlelight.
Toilets, showers, washing facilities were fab with Radio 2 greeting you whenever you visited the shower block :-) it was also lovely to have a hairdryer and straighteners to use.
The meal at the Saxon Arms was super and highly recommended if you like eating out.
Thank you Jon and Amanda for a really unique experience, we look forward to visiting again.
Pip, Sam and children.
The little things that matter...
This was our first camping or 'glamping' holiday, and we weren't sure what to expect in terms of facilities but we are so pleased we chanced upon Bloomfield.
It felt such a luxurious introduction to the world of sleeping outdoors with enough of a sense of getting closer to nature but experienced with comfort and style.
Inspired ideas included that really made a difference included:
A separate 'kitchen-shed' and dining area next each tent with gas cooker and pretty much everything you really need to self cater.
Very generous areas for each tent site that were within sight of one another but not so close as to inhibit privacy.
Each front 'garden' area has it's own Campfire pit, a sunken rectangle in the turf for just sitting around and staring into in the evenings (with a fire obviously), or for cooking barbecues on the simple but effective grill provided.
Excellent showering and toilet facilities, with cubicles large enough for the whole family.
Hair dryers (for those with hair).
A radio played continuously in the shower / toilets which was particularly welcome on night time trips to the loos in the dark, but also to 'mask' personal 'sound'.
A herb garden flower box by each tent.
Location is only about 25 miles from the sandy beach at Poole, and not so very far either from the New Forest itself.
We arrived in the rain and Amanda was there on a trailer-tractor to help with luggage, as well as generous sized umbrellas which we were allowed to use for the rest of our stay, it rained a fair bit so they were very useful.
The 'swing garden' area was a great hit with our boys (aged 4 and 8) and they easily made friends with the other children staying and played for ages there, although with ponds providing another wonderful aspect of nature, it did mean we felt we needed to be present for obvious reasons.
The tents themselves are pitched on raised wooden platforms and the overall comfort level and spec of the tents was brilliant… who says camping needs to be basic?!!
So all in all, we would recommend Bloomfield to anyone for a break, we shall certainly be back and we wish Jon and Amanda all the best in the venture, it certainly deserves to be a great success, well done.
….Ooh, nearly forgot the peacocks which might not offer much practical use, but they were an ever present and welcome touch of class and interest for the whole family.
Better than a 5* hotel - truly magical
I recently booked a stay at Bloomfield Camping as a surprise for my husband on our 10th wedding anniversary. I must admit that I placed the booking with a degree of uncertainty. I’m not known for my love of canvas, but really wanted to do something memorable and romantic for our anniversary - Bloomfield didn’t disappoint. I can honestly say that I
would choose this unique and beautiful campsite over a 5* hotel any day.
From start to finish Jon and Amanda couldn’t have been more helpful. They were always available for any questions we had, but didn’t impose themselves on us either. On arrival I was astounded at how much space each Yurt had, how beautifully decorated they were
and how well equipped the kitchen was. Like a home from home…but better!!
It’s very evident that Bloomfield is a complete labour of love. The attention to detail throughout the whole site is second-to-none. Time and again I was struck by all of the ‘little things’ that have been thought through and supplied. These small touches really show
how much care has gone into ensuring visitors can truly kick back and enjoy the
peace and tranquillity of the site.
Without a shadow of a doubt our favourite part of the weekend was the fire pit supplied on our pitch. There’s nothing more relaxing and romantic than sitting under the stars, with a glass of wine, a cosy fire and none of life’s modern distractions to get in the way of
a good old fashioned conversation. This was made even better by knowing that one of the comfiest beds EVER was waiting for us just a few feet away. I have never slept so well in a tent…and didn’t even miss the comfort of my own bed.
The other thing that sets Bloomfield apart from other sites is the toilet and shower facilities. Clean, un-crowded and distinctly homely with a touch of radio 2 to ease us into each morning. I also love the fact that a hairdryer and straighteners are provided.
Again – it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.
We were blessed with good weather and found plenty to do in the local area – wild swimming in Wimborne, a trip to the beach, visit to the Badger Brewery and the obligatory trip up Hambledon Hill – well worth it for the views!
I could write so much more about this amazing campsite, but my words can't possibly do justice to the experience - you need to see it to believe it! We were both genuinely sad to say goodbye to our lovely yurt (and, of course, Dave the peacock!!). I could very happily have settled in for the whole summer! Huge thanks to Jon and Amanda. You have created something amazing and these days it’s rare to find somewhere that focuses on the true needs and enjoyment of the customer rather than commercial gain. We had a weekend that we will never forget and can’t wait to come back..
Fantastic and peaceful site
We had a truly amazing stay at this wonderful campsite. Our children (aged 6 & 8) were instantly smitten with Jon as they saw him drive up to us on his ride on mower with attached trailer - you can probably guess what's coming, they pestered him non stop during our stay for trips back and forth on said trailer and he didn't disappoint!
In terms of the site itself; it is a glamping site and the owners have really thought of everything, we are seasoned campers and i was hesitant in not bringing anything with us but I needn't have worried, even hairdryer and straighteners were supplied! The tent housed a very comfortable king size bed and two large futons for the kids. Plenty of hanging and storage space in the tent we were in. The kitchen was very well stocked, with supplies of tea, coffee, sugar etc to tide you over until you get to the shops if you've forgotten to bring your own. The owners change your freezer blocks for the cool box everyday, which is very handy! Plenty of saucepans, utensils, mugs, glasses etc. The cooker is a full domestic gas hob, grill and oven. Logs for the fire were replenished every day, we lit a fire every night so it was great not having to pay extra for them or having to collect them ourselves!
We had great weather while we were there last week so we spent most of our time on site with the kids riding their bikes everywhere. The little lanes that Jon has mowed around the site make great tracks for the children. The rope swings & hammocks were well utilised. My husband and son wanted to see if they could catch some fish and Jon very kindly lent them his fishing rod and net.
The communal facilities were clean, tidy and more than adequate. The campsite was full when we were there, but we never had to wait for the shower, or to wash up etc. More often then not you wouldn't even see anyone in there.
Overall the site is incredibly peaceful and tranquil, I always worry that our children will be the ones to disrupt the peace but with so much space for them to explore and spread out this wasn't an issue, they made great friends with a few of the other children on site and they'd all often disappear on their bikes and for the first time in years I managed to finish a book on holiday!
As you can tell from my review we loved our stay and hope we can make it back next year. We wish both Jon and Amanda the best of luck with Bloomfield Camping and have no doubts that they will be very successful with it!

Great stay and a bargain
Having not been camping with our daughters (6 and 2) before, we decided it may be best to go for a more civilised approach first time around. We stumbled on Bloomfield camping, and it looked perfect. Loads of space for the kids, some peace and quiet for us, and some loverly walk in the immediate area.
In reality, it was even better than it promised. Everything we could want was supplied - we ended up taking a load of stuff that we didn't need. The girls loved it. The week we went was quite hot (hitting as high as 32 according to the car), but down on the hammocks by the ponds was cool and tranquil - heaven.
My daughter wanted to explore the fauna in the pond, so I enquired with Jon about nets, but he advised that they were broken. He said he would sort something out, and later that day a brand new net was available for my daughter to explore.
It seemed that nothing was too much trouble to ensure our stay was very special.
Couldn't recommend strongly enough.
Our friends had recommended this site to us, so when I was looking to book a weekend for a birthday break, this was my first choice.
The site itself is just stunning. Jon & Amanda are absolutely lovely and were more than happy to help or to listen to me bore on about bugs, birds and fish!
Our two year old had more than ample space to run or ride is bike around. Endless fun was had rummaging in the undergrowth or around the beautiful ponds looking for butterflies, beetles, damselflies and dragonflies and looking out for the fish.
The facilities are top notch. The kitchen is equipped to such an extent that almost everything we bought with us was redundant.
We used the fire pit for all our evening meals and into the night to sit beside and enjoy the environment with a drink.
Thanks Jon & Amanda, we will definitely be coming back!
Chris, Char & Sam.
Wonderful location and setup
We had a very nice week staying at Bloomfield, which was made even better by stunning weather. The tents are very well setup, with all of the essentials and a few luxuries too. The kitchen setup is amazing, much better than we expected. It was a treat to be able to have a full cooker whilst camping! The site itself is stunning and has been very well landscaped, we can't wait to visit again in the future to see how it's come along!
Definitely the best camping trip we've ever been on
I'm loathed to say how amazing this campsite is because I don't want it to be fully booked by others next season when we will most definitely be returning!
We visited the site for 4 nights with our children aged 2 and 6 years. It was lovely for them to have so much open space to play in without the draw of computer games and TV. My son was particularly fascinated with Dave the peacock and my daughter enjoyed searching for butterflies and dragonflies around the lovely pond area.
It was great to have such a well eqipped kitchen and the choice of using the gas cooker or the fire pit for cooking. Also the fire being located a little away from the tent meant that the tent remained smoke smell free whilst we enjoyed our BBQ sausages.
The pitch sizes are really generous and the children felt as though they had their own garden to play in outside the tent, bordered by the longer grass and trees. They also had the option of playing in the central open space with the swing ball or on the tree swings around the pond area.
We were lucky enough to have glorious weather which did make the tent a little warm during the day but we were too busy out and about for this to be a problem. The tent was really spacious even with the king size bed and both futons extended. If there had been rain, we would have had more that enough space for the children to play inside.
The shower block was also very well equipped with large shower rooms allowing all the family to comfortably fit inside, separate wash basin rooms and toilets. With the entire site being powered by solar power you would never notice the difference as the showers were hot, sensor powered lighting ensured the shower block was always well lit and the daily replenishment of ice blocks kept our kitchen cooler box cold enough to store our daily basics.
Definitely the best camping trip we have ever been on and we can't wait to book our next visit!
Everyone should have a Bloomfield experience....
We arrived from Kent three hours late after a horrendous drive and as we drove into the site we were thrilled by what we saw, Jon and Amanda came over to greet us we were taken to our tents.
The tents are beautifully done, they are tasteful, cosy and have everything you could possibly need. From the gorgeous bed linen and ridiculously comfortable king size bed to the pretty lanterns they cannot fail to impress.
The kitchen is brilliantly equipped and all of the utensils etc are great quality. The fairy lights and candles make for a gorgeous dining experience as the sun starts to go down.
The site itself is lovingly designed and the shower block is clean, quirky and Radio 2 , the solar powered straighteners and hair driers are a lovely touch.
The owners here clearly know their stuff and love what they do. Absolutely everything is well thought out and they haven't missed a thing, right down to the Swingball area which provided a great deal of nostalgic amusement for all of us
We are already planning our return and honestly, the only negative thing about our experience is the fact that we had to go home which made us all very sad!
Thank you Jon, Amanda and Dave the Peacock for the best weekend.
A first class camping experience
A beautiful location, abundant with wildlife and perfectly arranged for a wonderful camping experience. Jon and Amanda have created a haven. Our family enjoyed a very relaxing and comfortable break. The tents are super comfortable and roomy. We are glamping converts and I may find it difficult to convince my daughters and husband to go back to our normal camping expeditions
The immediate area around the site is well worth exploring if you can prise everyone away from the hammocks and rope swings. We would not hesitate to return and so fantastic to see that the prices don't increase for the school holidays.
Totally chilled weekend
My wife and I have recently had an amazing camping experience, Bloomfield camping is quite simply a unique, relaxing, tranquil, and uplifting experience.
The site is nestled below Hambledon Hill at Child Okeford in Dorset, it is beautiful with masses of space between pitches, all tents have their own adjacent kitchen with full cooking facilities and a covered eating area providing shade and cover; we had great fun building fires in the pit to BBQ our supper and laughed at the dripping marshmallows toasted on the embers.
The facilities are superb, with large hot showers. and the off grid solar power shows a commitment to the environment (speak to Jon and he will explain it all to you! )
The site has abundant wildlife and is great for those wishing to explore and get closer to nature, or simply relax on the deck with a good book or doze in a hammock secluded away by the ponds.
The tents are impressive, nicely presented and have a comfy king size double bed, two futons and plenty of storage space.
Our walk into the village for an ice cream and stroll to the local farm for BBQ supplies was well worth the effort and the walk to the iron age fort on top of Hambledon hill rewarded us with stunning views over the Dorset landscape.
Jon and Amanda are great hosts and are willing to help if needed, they have put a lot of time, thought and effort into providing a wonderful experience for their guests, and it shows.
We would thoroughly recommend you visit this gem of a site
A heavenly weekend away
Wow!! My other half and I have just come back from a weekend of glamping at Bloomfield campsite, and it was a wonderful weekend. It was relaxing and peaceful and the site was beautiful and brimming with wildlife. And so much space!
Jon and Amanda were ever so friendly and helpful, and they have put together an amazing site, so different from the norm. The tents were homely, and the space inside was very welcome, definitely not the usual tent experience! Even when it poured and thundered which it did on occasion over the weekend (although on the whole it was sunny and warm) we felt safe and secure in the tent; we had the tent flaps open and watched the bad weather pass on through while lying on the bed and reading...... blissful!
The kitchen was great, everything you need to hand, and a nice wooden table with benches just outside to sit at, undercover too which was a blessing, I welcome the shade when the sun beats down.... and for when the drops started to fall. Toilets and showers were as you'd have at home, that was a real luxury.
Probably the most striking thing about Bloomfield is the sense of space and the nature that envelopes you, its wonderful. So many birds, so many butterflies, so many dragon flies ( I haven't seen butterflies in that quantity for a long time). One cannot help but feel at peace when surrounded by such beauty and nature. We watched teams of fish in the ponds, and lay lazily on the hammock in the sun, and tried to work out the identity of the birds we were seeing. On the bird front the highlight for us was seeing a kingfisher fly and then land at the pond just outside the shower block - excellent view from where you wash up the dishes!
I recommend Bloomfield camping whole heartedly, and relish the thought of returning some day in the future. Oh and it had swing ball too, who doesn't like swing ball?!!
4 fun days !
Just returned from a weekend at Bloomfield Camping & despite torrential down pours had a fantastic peaceful & relaxing stay . The campsite is great with lots of space in an idyllic location , very well designed & very ecologically sound with lots of wonderful birds & wild life buzzing around including Kingfishers,Herons,Ducks, Peacocks, Chickens , geese & lots more .
The tents are grand with loads of room & good quality furnishings, bed & futons . The Kitchenette was well stocked ( With Coffee,Tea sugar etc) & pristine . There is a composting toilet well hidden but only 30 seconds away . The showers , toilets & washing facilities are perfect work well & heated by solar power which is excellent .
Jon & Amanda are fantastic friendly , helpful & informative hosts with a good knowledge of the area . They have done a wonderful job at Bloomfield Camping , myself & Abby can't wait to return very very soon . Top marks Amanda & Jon & many thanks .
As very much 'non campers' we thought we'd try the concept of glamping with our 4 and 2 year olds as part of a long weekend as I was booked on a River Cottage course one of the days. How glad we did and just to say up front we were paying guests so this is an honest review - staying over the last weekend in June just as the weather was threatening to turn!
We were welcomed as soon as we parked up (directions were very easy to follow and it's a gloriously secluded location) and Jon immediately made our boys weekends by giving them a lift on the trailer of the tractor to the tent which was great fun for them.
The tents are really nice and spacious (we booked Beech which is close to the pond area and has great views) - a king size bed which was very comfy was one of the reasons for choosing this site as we are both tall and a good night sleep tend to either make or break a holiday - the boys loved the futon beds although ours still managed to fall out in the night once as I guess it was all new to them! They are very solid and comfy too.
There was only another family staying there which made it seem very quiet although even when full I doubt you'd realise as there is so much space for each pitch. The cooking area is a great addition and makes making meals so easy plus the fire pit is perfect for sitting out in the evening after dark or entertaining the kids with marshmallows! If you're not used to hearing a dawn chorus you are in for a treat (and not an annoying one!), it feels so quiet apart from nature which is perfect. Plenty to do around the area and our boys managed to climb the nearby hill (2 hr round trip with kids) which gives stunning views, local pubs are good and a farm shop is nearby for anything else.
Lovely hot and spacious showers, toilets are clean and it was nice to have the radio playing in there just to add a little normality into what is a real break away from a hectic life we normally lead!
The kids loved it (especially Dave the peacock), we loved it and will definitely recommend and also look to return next summer!
We have just returned from a stay at Bloomfield Camping and we had the most wonderful stay. We have a 2 and 4 year old and this was our first camping experience and I think we have been thoroughly spoilt!! The site is beautiful and in a peaceful and pretty setting. We were welcomed by Jon who couldn't have been more helpful during our stay. The tent is gorgeous, extremely spacious with beautiful furnishings and very comfy beds. Great kitchen by the side of the tent which is well equipped and Jon brings round the ice blocks on a daily basis to keep everything cool. There is a fantastic shower block which was well equipped and very clean. One of the best things is the feeling of privacy you get as all the pitches have such a huge amount of space and a great area to just let the children run. We also took a nice little walk to a local pub for a very tasty ploughman's and shandy! A fantastic site with everything you need for a hassle free camping trip, we will definitely be returning, thanks for a great stay.
May bank holiday weekend
We were some of the first campers staying at Bloomfield over the May Bank Holiday weekend 2014. As seasoned campers (with kids aged 4 and 6) this was our first time ‘glamping’. To be honest I was a bit sceptical that it would be worth the extra money, but it absolutely was. The weather was very mixed, so having a lovely huge tent up on a wooden deck away from the wet ground was brilliant. As was the covered dining area so we could eat outside whatever the weather. We stayed in 2 of the tents – Beech for 3 nights and then Poplar for 1, and found both really comfortable with cosy warm beds (lovely thick duvets) and plenty of space - both inside the tent and around the pitch so it felt very private. The kitchen units were amazingly well –equipped with everything we needed. We cooked over the campfire every night and came home happy and stinking of woodsmoke. Jon has obviously put a huge amount of work into the site, especially the planting of lots of fruit trees, so it’s only going to look better and better as time goes on. We look forward to coming back!
A great weekend with kids
We had a great time in Bloomfield during May bank holiday. The tents were big and our two girls loved it as well. The kitchen was such a bonus. Jon and Amanda were always ready to help us, given this was our first glamping experience- we had enough questions for them. The girls are already asking when do we go back there! Would recommend it totally.
A relaxing retreat with all the luxuries
Myself, my husband, and our three-year-old just had the nicest weekend here. The bell tents are enormous with the most amazing king sized beds and we felt totally secluded from the other three pitches. The grounds are beautiful, with peacocks and ducks roaming free, and the hammocks and swings kept our son entertained. A fully stocked separate kitchen made cooking simple, and the space was just such a luxury - nothing like our previous camping experiences. For my full thoughts - read here - http://wp.me/p4tJCe-5K
Spot on Glamping
I took my 4 year old granddaughter to Jon & Amanda's yurts for May half term week and we had a very special time together. We both loved the site, the space, the animals, and the relaxed but well cared for feel of proper customer service you get at Bloomfield.
I'm not a great camper but this is well thought out, with very comfortable beds, thick & warm duvets, well stocked kitchens, clean showers, and loads of room so that your neighbours are not on your doorstep.
There is a lovely pub in the village which is close enough to walk to, a little shop that stocks all that you need, and a fish and chip van on a Thurs evening too! Plus there are plenty of things for the kids to do - indoor and outdoor soft play, leisure centre, Farmer Palmers - all a short drive away to keep them happy. Plus on site plenty of room to ride their bikes, swings & hammocks, swingball and games.
All in all we had a great time - even though the British weather did its best to dampen our mood - and I highly recommend this for first time glampers or seasoned campers as one to try.
A little piece of heaven!
Have just returned from a glorious weekend at Bloomfield camping. From its secluded pitches to luxurious beds nothing has been missed. Not only are Jon and Amanda great hosts but they have paid real attention to detail.
The tent and kitchen are well equipped and tastefully thought out. The toilet and shower block are lovely and it's nice to see that everything is running off solar power. There are even hammocks near the ponds to wile away the hours watching the ducklings and moorhens.
The surrounding area is beautiful and the view of Hambledon Hill is amazing. Jon was able to give us a map with a great walk taking in the hill from every angle. They have lots of information at the resource centre in reception which is useful if you don't know the area.
I would highly recommend this to couples and families alike if you want a get away from it all experience with a bit of luxury thrwn in.
Simply amazing detail and quality
I can't recommend Bloomfield enough after this weekend. Quite simply a beautiful campsite. The attention to detail Jon & Amanda have put into the place is what sets this place apart from any other campsite I have stayed at.
Our pitch was private, peaceful, the tent was stunning, huge cosy bed, candles, fire pit outside, full kitchen... we spent the whole night sat round the fire chatting, eating, staring into the skies, watching shooting stars & drinking rum
Does it get any better?
Toilets & showers were lovely, dare I say luxurious!
Because it's a small site you could enjoy some peace and space, you felt like you had the place to yourselves.
If you're looking for a peaceful get away with a touch of luxury camping then Bloomfield is a must.
Thanks Jon & looking forward to some weekends there next summer.
Bloomfield camping is a blissful site where children can run free (and safely) without disturbing another soul - the very stuff that childhood should be all about. The rope swings and lakes provide a magnet for curious little (and big!) ones. The tents are so comfortable, the kitchens well equipped and the fire pits perfectly placed for an evening watching the stars and simply chilling out. Been to Bloomfield in all conditions and enjoyed every minute with walks up the beautiful Hambledon hill close by on sunny days (must take a kite next time) and when drizzle ruled the day, then a trip to the outdoor sumo wrestling venue (coolplay) was an unusual and side splitting experience. The village pub (the Saxon Inn)made all 10 of us very welcome even at short notice and the food was scrummy. Jon, Amanda and Dave the Peacock are the icing on the cake!! We thoroughly recommend this experience to all our friends and family.
Relax and enjoy the very special campsite....
We stayed at Bloomfield in September and booked the site out with 3 families and our stay was simply amazing. Our children all played together in the natural environment whilst parents could relax and enjoy a nice social together. The campsite area is so peaceful and natural with grassy pathways which the children could play on and raised banks which they spent hours entertaining themselves on. It was so nice to see them just playing in such a natural environment; collecting flowers, apples, pears and blackberry’s, bug hunts, fun games such as hide and seek and then there is the rope swings; they played for literally hours on these swings and the area is really nice for parents to sit around and enjoy a cuppa whilst the children are enjoying the swings. You'll need to keep an eye on toddlers are there is a pond but this entire area is sectioned off and Jon will keep it locked until you want to go in so it's totally safe. The children played for hours and hours only stopping to refuel! Not once over our stay did our children ask about TV or their bikes, scooters etc as they were way to busy!
In general though the site is a great place to stay whether you have children or not as the pitches are huge and you have a very private area to yourself. The peacefulness and tranquillity is amazing and you’ll feel refreshed. Leave your car at the car park and forget about it til you leave as you won’t really need to go anywhere as this holiday is about enjoying the environment you are in. Each pitch has a fire pit which you can cook on and sit around in the evening enjoying a few beers. The tents are fantastic, really spacious and plenty of room for you and the kids things. The beds were incredible, so comfortable and warm; the best night’s sleep EVER whilst camping. The children stayed on a futon each and they were really warm and comfortable. The furnishings are big and chunky, very well chosen and top quality.
There is a nice local pub nearby which is a short walk down the bridle path – nice food which doesn’t cost the earth and they have a play area in the garden which kept the children entertained. Next to the pub is a local organic farm and farm shop which is had some great fruit, veg and meat (and cake!).
The kitchen facilities are perfect with everything you could need. We cooked everything on the open fire but you could knock up a Sunday roast if you wanted as all the facilities are there.
We walked up Hambledon Hill which is still very doable even with small children, maybe toddlers can go on Dad’s shoulders but it’s very feasible. A picnic at the top looking over the Dorset countryside is rather special.
We had never done this style of camping before and the price is obviously more expensive than your usual but you need to take into consideration what you are experiencing. For the quality family time, peacefulness, relaxation, stunning natural environment, fantastic accommodation aswell as home comforts, Glamping at Bloomfield is excellent value for money.
The owners are lovely people and nothing is too much trouble. This is a special place which is highly recommended.
First Glamping Trip
We stayed at Bloomfield in September for our first 'glamping' trip. We weren't sure what to expect as have found camping in a tent with 3 kids 5 and under quite a challenge in the past. The ready to go tent was amazing. So light, airy and spacious. The beds were so comfortable and we all slept amazingly well listening to the owls hooting and cows lowing. The little kitchen shed, one each per tent was a fab idea. One of the best features was the space between the tents which meant you did not feel on top of your neighbours which adds to the relaxing vibe. So nice just to be able to let the kids run about exploring the field without worrying about cars and loads of other campers. Truly relaxing break in the heart of Dorset! Will be going back for sure.

Heaven for a non camper
As a mummy who loathes camping but has a husband and children [aged 7 and 9] who love it, I came to Bloomfield with some apprehension! I loved it.
The yurts, with their PROPER beds and PROPER duvets etc were lovely; comfortable and clean (and looked good for my facebook updates too!).
The blurb above says there is a compost loo [finding out about that made me recoil in horror but it is actually kitted out very nicely]. There are also proper flushing loos too - hallelujah!
Jon and Amanda were very welcoming, great with my kids even when they were desperate to "help" out on site.
So a big thumbs up from this townie family. We will be back.
