Moreton (Ready Camp)
Station Road, Moreton, Dorchester, Dorset DT2 8BB
The place itself has got great facilities, including two washing and shower blocks, a children's play area and an area for ball games – plus there's an excellent pub next door, the Frampton Arms. The highlight, though, is the three Ready Camp safari tents, new to the campsite and kitted out with everything you need: two proper beds in two proper bedrooms (the tents can sleep four adults in comfort, or a family of six), a kitchenette with hob, fridge, microwave and pots, pans and cutlery; and a living area that extends to a shady terrace.
It’s the location that’s the real draw however. The nearby Jurassic Coast, the seaside resort of Swanage and the coast of the Isle of Purbeck are all on your doorstep, and the nice thing is that the site is just a short walk from Moreton Station so you can ditch the car and take the train to the seaside – to Bournemouth, Poole or Weymouth. With a car there’s also access to Studland Bay or you can tour the Jurassic Coast along as far as Burton Bradstock with its superb beach café.
Dorchester is just a fifteen-minute drive away and is a pleasant market town (and has the added draw of Thomas Hardy's cottage just outside), while there are more literary connections at nearby Clouds Hill, where you can visit the house of 'Lawrence of Arabia', TE Lawrence, and continue on to the military museum at Bovington Camp, where he was stationed. By the time you get back to camp you’ll have done enough to write your very own novel!
