The Owner Says

Highway Hill is a family-run business aimed at people who love the outdoors. We’re located within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a stunning landscape of ancient woods, gently meandering chalk springs, and rolling downland, offering peace, quiet and relaxation. Staying at Highway Hill in one of our shepherd’s huts or bell tents is a very special experience. You can choose a traditionally-built shepherd’s hut or spend a night under canvas in one of our very spacious bell tents.

Each of the bell tents can comfortably sleep up to 4 people including a double bed and up to two single futon beds. They are decorated in a bohemian style, with luxurious Egyptian cotton bed linen, soft, sumptuous cushions and thick rugs, keeping you cosy whatever the weather. We have added our own personal touches to each of the bell tents: vintage trunks for storage, colourful throws, fairy lights and bunting. We have also installed wood burning stoves to keep you warm and toasty on chilly nights — there are even convenient water heaters for your morning cuppa. We will supply you with half a dozen farm fresh eggs and a pint of milk for your arrival. If you are staying in a bell tent then you will find your eggs and milk in the onsite kitchen.

Enjoy your evening sitting out with your own barbecue watching the sun set behind the surrounding fields, woods and Wiltshire’s famous rolling downland. Once the cool evening air greets you, curl up into your snug bed with the comforting glow of the campfire just a short (but safe!) distance away. We think you’ll feel like you’re sleeping in the very arms of nature as you drift off into a perfectly relaxing, restful night’s sleep…

We have washroom facilities such as toilets (with disabled access), showers, washing up facilities and a kitchen area (by the office), BBQs, fire pit and a hammock are also available for your use. Guests are welcome to bring their own charcoal for the barbecues, but logs and kindling for the fire pit and woodburning stoves are supplied on site.

Explore the nearby attractions such as Bowood House, with its gardens and much loved adventure playground and the Georgian city of Bath with its spa and grand architecture – all an easy drive away. Closer to home there are networks of footpaths and bridleways which gets you out into our own beautiful local landscape, leading to magical places such as our local White Horse, one of eight still visible in Wiltshire.
