Bell tent and tipi glamping in Somerset's Mendip Hills that's perfect for romantic breaks or peaceful family getaways

There’s something special about the way the grass grows at this off-the-beaten track glamping site. Pimpled with yellow buttercups and fringed by wild cow parsley, its lush, colourful layers are symptomatic of the surrounding countryside, where the Mendip Hills spread north into the distance. Mown pathways and open clearings have been carefully mown into, like the streams that mow through the hills around, and there’s plenty of space for campers to run wild. It all fits subtly within the scenery. Just as any good campsite should.

Rightly, however, Moor View don’t refer to themselves as camping. Oh no. This is ‘luxury canvas camping’ where the focus is not just on the Somerset surroundings but also on ensuring guests have a thoroughly comfortable stay. Inside their pair of furnished bell tents and luxury tipis, guests will find proper double beds with sprung mattresses, a wood burner with logs to keep it fuelled and an extra large hammock outside for lazing in the sun. There’s also an excellent little outdoor kitchen with everything you need, including a cool box for food storage with ice packs you can replenish in the campsite freezer.

The atmosphere is what really stands out. The small-scale of the site makes it ideal for couples and families who simply want to laze around and enjoy the peace and quiet. There’s a fourth mini bell tent with games and toys for little ones, while a communal fire-pit is ideal for that authentic camping touch and also provides a nice social element. The owners, too, contribute a personal touch, on hand with any local recommendations when you need. They can even arrange a hamper of local produce from the nearby farm shop in Priddy, so that you have food when you arrive.

If you fancy walking to the village yourself, it’s only a short stroll away and rewards you with a picturesque village pub and quintessentially English summer events on the village green, such as the Priddy Folk Festival. It’s also the starting place for some good local walks. For the best of the scenery, though, it’s worth venturing down the road to famous Wokey Hole and touring east through dramatic Cheddar Gorge. As you head beyond the campsite you’ll also find stunning views across the Somerset levels to Glastonbury Tor in the distance. Private though the site may be there really does seem to be something to see in every direction.

Beautiful & Perfect!

A lovely small site, with a genuinely eco feel. Beautifully and thoughtfully equipped. The three of us stayed in the Ebbor Bell Tent; a really large tent, it had plenty of space, was furnished to a very high standard, was warm, cosy and comfy (even during thunderstorms and high winds). This site is magical, perfectly located and peaceful. Great location to explore Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. I cannot wait to return and explore a little more.

Heaven on a Hill

A beautiful well equipped site which was an ideal place for me to spend 3 nights where I could unwind, press the pause button and be with nature. Stayed in Burlington Tipi - furnished to a high standard - as comfortable as you could get- even in a raging storm with winds, thunder and lightning! Magical place and great starting place to explore parts of Somerset both walking and taking a drive. Highly recommend if wild camping isn’t your scene but would love to spend some time outdoors

Lovely site, lovely location.

This is a little gem of a site with excellent facilities. Tent is spacious and has everything you need including a comfy bed and a wood burner if its chilly. Outside fire pit and hammock are nice touches, showers are hot and the "allocated time slot" system works well. Kitchen facilities have all the basics you need, and the fridge is a bonus but bring a gas cooker too if you're planning to cook on-site. Pub 10 mins away does good food and take-away pizza. Great location for getting a teste of Somerset. Wookey Hole Caves, walk at Deer Leap, Weston SM, Brean Down and beach etc all within between 10 and 45 mins drive. Definitely a site we would recommend for a 3 or 4 night stay.

Great stay

Great location- near to Cheddar gorge, Wookey hole, Well and Weston Super Mare. Adam and Catherine are great hosts, really helpful and knowledgeable on the surrounding area. The village pub is a 10 min walk and friendly, with lots of countryside views on the route. We stayed for 3 nights we all wished it was longer- would highly recommend Moor View.

As Soon as we arrived we were completely relaxed, what a beautiful place

Fantastic hosts, really friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Perfect place for walks and sightseeing, it’s in the middle of Cheddar,, wooky hole and Glastonbury. The teepee was fantastic, very spacious with everything you need, the log runner was great at night, we sat watching the flames for ages ( easily pleased). Great nights sleep, very comfortable. We also made friends with the chickens and the dog, I miss them already. There’s also a great kitchen area with everything you need and the shower is fantastic you feel like you are in the woods and can hear the birds singing Just to top it off there is a fantastic pub about 10 minutes walk away with great food we sat in an outside booth. Which was very quirky.. Great place to stay

A perfect little honeymoon get away

Having met at Glastonbury Festival 7 years ago, it made perfect sense for us to return to Somerset for our honeymoon. We got married the day before our stay and we were very excited about slowing down for a few days; returning both geographically and metaphorically to our roots, and Moor View turned out to be the perfect place for us to do this. Set in a beautiful location overlooking the rest of Somerset, it was so quick and easy to get to around to all the places that mean so much to us, and it was a wonderful and quiet place to return to after a day of sight seeing and country walks. Everything you'd need was provided such as cooking equipment and washing up facilities, and the showers and toilets were clean and well kept (compared to normal camping / festival facilities these were like luxury!). Kathryn and Adam were so welcoming, there was a very inclusive family feel to the place. Also Betty (the dog) and the chickens were very friendly!! We definitely plan on returning once our little bump is born :) Top tip - Ebbor Gorge is within walking distance and exploring it is a lovely way to spend few hours! Go do it!

Beautiful tents in stunning scenery

The campsite at Moor View is really great. We started in a teepee, it was really comfortable and everything was very clean. The bed was very cosy and having a woodburner in there it gets very snug before bed. Everything we needed was provided including cooking pans to use on the fire pits, plates, cups and even a cafetiere. There is a hut with electricity to charge your phone and it has a fridge and kettle as well. They have 4 tents all separate with our own outside area and you have your own picnic table, hammock, deckchairs and a fire pit, which you can cook on. The toilets and showers were very very clean and hand sanitizer at the entrance to any communal space. We went at the end of lockdown and while there felt they went above and beyond to make everyone feel safe. Overall I would highly recommend we had a really lovely 2 nights there

Super chilled family time :)

We really enjoyed this lovely small site. My 9 year old twins did not want to leave after our long weekend. The hammock was fantastic for taking a nap in the sun! Kids especially loved that. Betty the labradoodle was adorable and we became best friends with the hens too :) It was great to sit out in the evening with a roaring fire under the stars. The only thing I would suggest would be to maybe bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper, the site itself is silent, but a nearby camping field was not! A frying pan for each tent would be great too but other than that, there’s pretty much all you need. Fantastic location if you want to head to Glastonbury. Thanks for a lovely stay :)

Great glamping experience

We had a fab time at Moor View with our kids aged 2 and 4, and another similar family. The site is a wonderful place for kids to run around and explore and they really enjoyed interacting with the (very) free range chickens! The tipi was a lovely place to stay and was very comfortable. The owner was super helpful and wanted to make sure all our needs were met and solve any problems. Lots of covid precautions. The surrounding area is gorgeous. Would love to stay again.

Lovely place

We stayed four days with two children and everybody enjoyed the camping very much. Beautiful tent, people, dog and chickens ;-) We enjoyed cooking on the fire and looking over the beautiful lanscape. It was a nice trip back to nature.

Gorgeous glamping in a beautiful area

My husband and I stayed at Moor View for two nights with our three young sons and we all had a fantastic time. The site is in an incredibly picturesque location - surrounded by fields and lovely walking spots. It's also really close to Wookey Hole, which is a fun (if expensive) place to go for a day trip. Moor View is really lovely - the site and the yurts are immaculate. The yurts are really nicely decorated with thoughtful touches and the hammock next to the yurt was wonderful. The kitchen is small but equipped with everything you need - fridge, toaster, kettle and crockery. The compost toilets are really clean, as were the showers. Although the yurts are fairly close together, we felt like we had our own space and the kids enjoyed using the cricket bats, croquet set and frisbee. Kathryn was very helpful and friendly. Would really recommend a stay here (especially for those like me who are more glampers than campers)!

Wonderful glamping getaway

We loved our last minute getaway for our first glamping experience at Moor View. Wonderful set up with all the little extra things thoughtfully provided such as hot water bottles, cosy sheepskin rugs on the deckchairs and even a tub of spring flowers on the tent’s decking. It’s eco friendly and the sawdust compost loos are clean and easy to use (and they don’t smell!) once you get used to the double pan system. Showers were good too and the luxury kitchen shed with microwave, kettle and toaster plus fridge and freezer space for all campers was wonderful. Great position for exploring the fabulous area. Tons to do with Wells on the doorstep, Cheddar Gorge down the way and Wookey Hole for the kids too. Stunning views and a decent pub too.

Hi Helen! Really pleased that we ticked the glamping box and hopefully you'll come back again to discover more gems in The Mendips.

A little slice of heaven!

All the thoughtful little touches to make it a home away from home made our first glamping trip perfect. Comfy beds, warm quality bedding, floor cushions, great outdoor kitchen, solar lights, and the outdoor shower (my biggest fear!) was simply divine! So peaceful and the views are amazing. We cooked on the brazier every chance we got - our full english breaky has never tasted better! We even rustled up popcorn and marshmallows which we shared with other families. Weather was wonderful for our stay (thanks for being kind Mendip gods!) so we didnt need to use the wood burner inside, as much as we wanted to. Snug as bugs with extra blankets if needed. Kitchen hut had everything you could ask for from spare candles to power sockets and outdoor games like boule, tennis and croquet. Our hosts were super friendly and ensured a very welcoming and relaxed feel to the whole place. They've not left a stone unturned and have thought of everything to make your stay simply perfect. Can't wait to go again!

Cold, but pretty

This was our first time camping, which is why we opted for glamping. The tent was beautiful and the surroundings stunning. Unfortunately the week we decide to stay the weather had turned and it was rather cold and windy (9 degrees overnight!). There was a wood burner in the tent, but this being our first time camping we were not great at making a fire and there were no instructions on how to build one or keep it going. Due to our fire issues we also didn't manage to cook on the outside fire, but Wells is close enough with plenty of restaurants and take aways. The bed was super comfy and with all the extra blankets provided we managed to stay warm enough for a good night sleep. An extra floor bed had been made up for our son and even with that in the tent there was still plenty of space around. The hosts are very friendly and a wealth of information about the local area. All in all we had a fun and adventurous weekend!
