Bijou camping by a 14th-century farmhouse with valley views and organic food

Huntstile is foodie heaven. Owners Lizzie and John radiate a passion for good food, which the whole place lives and breathes. The farm covers over 650 acres of organic land, nursing vegetables, soft fruit, wheat, oats and barley, as well as medicinal crops and sheep and chickens galore. This isn’t a dedicated campsite but a farm-cum- campsite/glamping-sort-of-a-place – and it’s amazing...You can even get married here.

There are technically 25 pitches, located in a separate field just down from the farmhouse, but you’re more or less welcome to hunker down anywhere. If that seems like too much hard work, then cosy up in the beautiful bowtop gypsy caravan, complete with dinky little log burner and double bed – also with an outdoor firepit and cauldron for cooking – or the gorgeous, sky-blue painted shepherd’s hut trailer which, believe it or not, sleeps four, albeit at a squeeze.

You’re in Quantock country, so the farm lies in an enviable position circled by stunning rural Somerset and all its outdoor possibilities, not to mention a lovely stretch of coastline within striking distance. There are also onsite walks that seek out ancient woodland or stone circles – hard to believe you’re only ten minutes from the M5 as all you can hear around here is wildlife. Just a short stroll across the farmyard is a gorgeous little café, where you can tuck into a cream tea or a Full English, happy in the knowledge it’s all fair trade without a GM ingredient in sight. Lizzie also runs sausage- making courses, so you can have a ball creating, then sampling, your very own British banger.

Campfires allowed. 25 pitches. No hook-ups or CDP. There’s a shower block, washing up area and flushing toilets about 3 minutes walk from the campsite. On the camp site we have a composting toilet with sawdust, and standpipe or fresh drinking water.

Onsite Café, shop, restaurant and veg garden. Breakfast available every daywe are open - suppers by request.

Suitable For

Tents, campervans,1 axle caravans, children, groups (by arrangement) well behaved pets - yes.

The beautiful Quantock Hills are within a 2 miles walk or a 4-mile drive, offering a range of outdoor activities, including walking, horse riding, climbing, and fishing. The fossils and freshwater ponds of Kilve Beach, on the north Somerset coast, are only 20 minutes’ drive away. Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole & Glastonbury Tor, Minehead beach & Weston-super Mare, Exter and Bristol are all within 45 minutes drive

Food & Drink

All yummy basics can be bought on site. Pizza Nights on Wednesday and Fridays in the Garden Room. Fantastic !

Ah, such a lovely campsite ! Beautiful location with lovely views. Super relaxing to watch the owls flying about in the evenings & watch the pet farm animals munching their food each morning. Great showers & breakfast very welcome for hungry campers. Brilliant cycling country straight from the farm & also in nearby Exmoor. We will definitely return to this tranquil place.

I was hesitant to recommend this place for the only reason to keep it our family secret...! We spent a fabulous week there with our three children aged from 3-12 and nobody got bored. We all loved the atmosphere, absolutely lovely, helpful people and the animals...a little piece of a happy world...and the breakfast was amazing, too! Thank you and we certainly will return!

Hunstile Organic farm

Sublime... A peaceful campsite based in the orchard down in a hollow behind the house with its beautifully crafted compost loo. It was wonderful to wander about the incredible veg and flower garden, scratching the pigs back on the way past of course. Everyone who worked/lived there were so helpful particularly Issey the dog who was the most gentle of all and loved children, it was recipricated by my two. Perfect base to explore Somerset and the Quantocks.

Huntstile Organic Farm

Just fabulous! We pitched in the apple orchard for a week, it was very peaceful and relaxing, beautiful countryside, wide open skies and amazing sunsets. Lizzie cooked us the most delicious breakfasts and everyone was so accommodating, we helped collecting eggs and feeding the piglets each morning - can we move in please?

Huntstile Organic Farm

What an amazing place to stay! John and Lizzie made the stay for the two of us and our four children (aged 7 to 13) relaxed, full of things to do and left with memories of amazing hospitality. If you’re looking for a base in Somerset, this is the perfect place. We’ve been a few times for both camping and staying in the farmhouse and will definitely return. PJ, IJ, G, C, F & O.
