About Oak Cottage

Suitable For

Glamping only. Adults only. Well-behaved pets are welcome.

Oak Cottage is situated on the Offas Dyke Path and the Wye Valley Ramble, so there are plenty of walking and cycling trails on your doorstep. Hire canoes for a day of adventure on the Wye (all hire outlets let you hire for half or full days and pick you up downstream, so you need only drift along with the current). Tintern is a 10-minute drive away, home to several pubs as well as a vineyard, brewery and the gothic Tintern Abbey in all its roofless beauty. If you’re a Netflix fan, you might also want to visit the main filming spots from Sex Education, all nearby – The house Otis lives in with his mum is just up the road from Oak Cottage and so is the corner shop they regularly visit; Anna will happily give you directions to both if you fancy trying your luck at getting a cameo role! And for the film buffs, the Forest of Dean is around a 20-minute drive away; J.K. Rowling lived here as a child, likely why it features in the film version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as well as other films like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Food & Drink

The Miners (01594836632) in Sling is a 15-minute drive away; the gastropub has won lots of awards for their modern British food made from local produce and is made even better when paired with their servings of local ale. Whilst the cabin is tiny (my partner who is 6 ft 4 did struggle to move around) it was stunningly beautiful. We were met at the car with a wheelbarrow which made carrying the belonging so much easier. We burnt a few logs in the burner but were then actually too warm so hard to turn it off. Such a lovely, peaceful escape from the world.

Perfect getaway

We had a lovely time staying at the Cabin. It was perfect for getting away just the two of us (well, three including the dog) for our wedding anniversary, very peaceful and the location is beautiful. The woodland surrounding Oak Cottage is stunning and so many lovely walks from the doorstep. The cabin had everything we needed, very clean and cosy and the coffee beans and pancake ingredients were ideal. Great hosts, very welcoming. We ordered the supper hamper which was absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend.

Beautifully secluded & peaceful

We stayed in the cabin for three nights and left wishing we stayed a bit longer! It's a beautifully quiet area, very private and you feel as if you are in your own little world. Highly recommend hiring the hot tub as we found it to be a massive bonus to our stay. The owners are incredibly nice and accommodating. You are provided with everything for your stay, though bear in mind there is no internet, poor phone signal and no microwave/oven or TV (which we found perfect as we wanted a true disconnecting stay!). Also recommend taking food beforehand and extra wood/kindling as the closest shop is a bit of a trek away. The area is stunningly beautiful. The cabin is incredibly comfortable and beautifully quiet. Would recommend 10/10 and will be staying again sometime in the future!

Relaxing, outdoorsy, cosy fun

We loved this beautiful gypsy caravan. It was cosy in the rain and gave us lots of time to unwind in the beautiful countryside. Anna’s extra touches made it special. We particularly liked the hot outdoor shower and the unhurried pace of things. Thoroughly recommend

Amazing peaceful and stunning location

Myself and my husband stay at the yurt with are two dogs, the yurt was lovely a cosy and well equipped with everything you would need, lovely touch of the fresh eggs milk and lemon. The scenery was stunning, we went for a lovely walk via the woods and ended up by the river. The site is hidden away but with the instruction easy to find, the family who run the campsite are very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to shut of from the world and enjoy the peace. Will 100% be booking again

Getting There

If you’re travelling south, exit the B4228 by turning right onto Coldharbour Road. Stay on this road for a mile and then turn right, Oak Cottage will be on your left from here. To reach it go down the unsealed track signed ‘restricted byway’ between Fayland and Oakwood house. You will then see parking spots and signs for Oak Cottage on your left.

The closest train station is in Lydney. Bus No.69 to Monmouth stops at Brockweir bridge but, from there, it's a 30-minute walk to the campsite.
