The Owner Says

Immerse yourself in a simpler way of living in your cosy Bell Tent. Sleeping under cotton canvas is a revitalising experience. Measuring 3 metres in height and 5 meters diameter they are no means small, offering a perfect space for a couples retreat or a plentiful space for a family or group of 5.

Inside your tent a double bed with proper mattress, is made up with luxurious bed linen. Pillows will be provided for the two single futon beds. An extra bed or cot can be added and hot water bottles and blankets can easily be arranged should you need them. All you need to do is pop in sleeping bags for the kids!

You will also find a plentiful selection of rugs, cushions and lighting and a wood burning stove which will keep the tent warm in all weathers, providing you with maximum comfort. A basket of logs and a fire starting kit will be complimentary and more can be purchased for a small fee from our honesty hut.

The large area outside has table and chairs which is covered by an awning, creating a shelter from the elements. Your private space within the orchard has a fire pit which doubles up as a BBQ and BBQing tools are provided.

Charcoal and marshmallows are available from the honesty hut and BBQ basket filled with local and home reared produce can be pre-ordered.

Your private kitchen hut is fully equipped and comes with a double burner gas stove and grill, cooking utensils, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, cling film, foil, kitchen roll, bin bags, tea towels and washing up essentials. (Washing up sink with running water is close to your tent). Essential condiments: coffee, tea, sugar, oil, salt and pepper, along with cool box with ice packs that you can replenish from our freezer at any time.

Adjacent to your tent is your own luxurious rustic bathroom on wheels and comprises of a hot shower and sink and separate compost toilet. Please do not be alarmed at the thought of a composting loo, they are very pleasant and whilst all compost toilets share certain principles, from a hole in the ground to state of the art techniques, our toilets separate the liquids and solids. The reason for this separation is to keep the compost aerated and odour-free and we do this by adding wood chip. So instead of flushing with water you flush with wood chip instead. A highly effective way, a toilet revolution!

Nearby

The site is just 5 miles from historic Gloucester and a lovely short walk from the River Severn. It's also just as nice to walk east to the Sharpness Canal, while the Severn is excellent for bird and wildlife watching (The Slimbridge Wetland Reserve is particularly close at hand), the canal is where you can watch the boaters to-ing and fro-ing – usually from a good pub (see food and drink). 10 miles away you can hire your own with Glevum Boat Hire (01453 899190). If you'd prefer to stay on land, how about renting a bike (01453 899190) to take on the quiet country lanes. Popular nearby attractions include the excellent Cotswold Wildlife Park (01993 823006) and Cotswold Farm Park (01451 850307) – better known as 'Adam's Farm' from the BBC's Countryfile. For a little culture, try the gardens and country houses of nearby Painswick Rococo (01452 813204), Batsford Arboretum (01386 701441) and Sudeley Castle and Gardens (01242 602308).

Food & Drink

The Anchor (01452 740433) in Epney is a great local pub situated on the banks of the River Severn, with beautiful views, serving typical pub grub with large portions. The Ship Inn (01452 740260), located on the canalside in Framilode has a decked seating area and garden for the children. For the best views, though, try The Pilot (01452 690807) in Hardwicke. Elevated to overlook a long stretch of the Sharpness Canal, it has a great play area for little ones and the service and food are always good. For fabulous cooked breakfasts, light lunches and tea and cake (along with more lovely canal views), The Stables Café (01452 741965), in Saul is another great choice.

Family Friendly

They may have been on television but there's nothing too Hollywood about The Glamping Orchard. In an old orchard on the banks of the River Severn a night beneath the stars here is as British as they come.

Location

The Glamping Orchard is located at Longney, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL2, UK
