Yurt glamping on picturesque banks of the river Tamar, right on the Devon Cornwall border
The River Tamar is a bit of a geographical oddity. Despite starting less than four miles from Cornwall’s north coast, the river wiggles its way in precisely the opposite direction, moseying south towards busy Plymouth with all the efficiency of a fish that can’t swim. To its sides, the gentle gradients of the valley rise and fall in golden fields and greening meadows, gradually widening towards their urban ending point.

It’s around the middle of the water’s journey that Newmoor Park is found – very much enjoying the rural, rather than urban, riverside scenery. The nine-acre enclave of native trees and colourful shrubs is like a lost pastoral paradise, enlivened by the sound of birdlife and harbouring enough species to fill a cub scout’s handbook. It’s no surprise to discover that the valley has a Wildlife and Otter Centre just six miles away.

To harp on about the greenery of Newmoor Park, isn’t particularly original though. Owners Joseph and Martyn have been welcoming guests here for years, single handedly running the Newmoor Park Guesthouse that’s racked up endless five-star reviews in its time. The gardens, the outdoors and the scenery are all regularly jotted among the many visitor comments. So it only seems sensible that Joseph and Martyn have now begun offering their same much-loved hospitality in the great outdoors.

The Newmoor Park yurts are real things of beauty – a pair of traditionally designed yurts crafted out of latticed woodwork, covered in taught white canvas and all based around a large central ‘crown’ that lets in natural light. They each have their own colour scheme – red and blue – and come complete with all the comforts, including a memory foam king-sized bed, a log-burning stove and kitchen wares for cooking on the gas BBQ outside. In the evenings you can gather around the communal campfire with your fellow yurt guests or, if you’re a larger group, book both yurts and enjoy the whole place to yourselves.

Offsite, the Cornish town of Launceston is just two miles away – the river forming a natural county border between Cornwall and Devon. The valley slopes have made the town a historical defensive base, crowned by a round Norman castle that presides over the houses below like a real-life crumbling sand castle. It’s about a half hour drive to the beaches of Bude, Boscastle and the like, where you can try and recreate it in perfect miniature form. Or stay put and ride around the narrow gauge steam railway instead – a quaint five-mile round trip that can also be used to visit nearby Newmills Farm Park.

We have just returned from a stay in a Yurt at Newmoor Park. Fantastic yurts that have been beautifully decorated with the feel of luxury. We couldn't have been more comfortable and enjoyed the peaceful experience of camping but with everything we could possibly need close at hand. Thank you to our hosts for their attentive care. We would love to come back and visit you again.

Glamping at it's best!

We hired both yurts for the bank holiday weekend so had the place to ourselves. The yurts are sumptuously decked out with very comfy beds, gorgeous lanterns, sparkly fairy lights, fragrant candles and of course all the other important camping bits like wine glasses and cafetieres! The owners couldn't have been more helpful and even arranged the sun to shine for the whole weekend! The shower and compost toilet were exceptionally clean and fairy lights lit the way at night from the yurt. We used the wood stoves in the evening so getting into bed was really cosy. The fire pit was a firm favourite with both adults and kids and the cooking facilities were great. The kids were able to roam freely around the grounds, skim stones into the river, jump on the trampoline and play endless games of cricket and rounders. They have some beautiful peacocks, friendly chickens and guinea fowl wandering around the lovely grounds. The local farm shop, a few minutes drive away, was fantastic and had the most delicious strawberries we've ever tasted. Lydford Gorge is a definite must - beautiful waterfalls and gorges. Bude was an easy drive away for a beach fix. Would completely recommend Newmoor yurts, especially for two families going away together.

I had always enjoying camping in a tent but i am such a convert to yurts after staying at Newmoor Park. They have two yurts on their 9 acres of land. Both are luxurious, spotlessly clean with all mod cons including your own bar-b-que and toilet/washing facilities. There is a large fire pit close by where you can sit and have a sing song while toasting marshmallows if you like. The owners are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They will give you ideas of where to visit and eat if you fancy a change. I absolutely loved staying here and would recommend you try here for a wonderful experience.

Best Glamping EVER!!

We found this little gem of a site (nine acres!) last year. The owners have made simply the best luxury yurt set up we have ever experienced! Multi-layered brand new yurts, private toilets and shower EACH YURT plus a private bbq and communal fire pit for night time star gazing! We also had friends that bought their own tents with them and the nine of us had just the most amazing few days. The grounds are stunning, your own private parkland, the kids spent days swimming in the river and playing pool or badminton. There are only two yurts available but people with tents are allowed as long as someone hires a yurt. Our advice, get in quick. It is in it's own right a very special site that you don't have to leave but also bang in the middle of EVERYTHING Devon & Cornwall has to offer. A handy farm shop up the road gives you everything you could ask for and there is plenty of parking on site.

Well done to the owners, this new site is gonna be a huge hit, they have thought of everything and live in a slice of Paradise! We have already re booked for July ;o)
