Daisy Meadow Safari Tents
The Gardener's Nursery 2, Leonard Moor Cross, Uffculme, Devon EX15 3EX
Located on the grounds of a family-run nursery, it’s no real surprise that horticulture plays an aesthetic role here. And it seems green-fingered folk are a dab hand at running glamping sites too. Owners Tina and Paul Walters have lived here, running The Gardeners’ Nursery for four years, but only set up the two new safari tents in 2014. Inside, the tents have an open-plan style. A king-sized bed, Chesterfield sofa and wooden furnishings occupy the main living area, while a wood-burning stove adds some extra comfort. Linen, bedding and towels are all provided (each tent has its own heated shower room). On the deck there’s a fridge, crockery and a gas stove for cooking or boiling your morning cuppa. Not that there’s much demand. The nursery also conveniently has its own teashop, manned from Tuesdays to Sundays so you may well end up doing most of your eating there (or ordering it to eat back on your deck). A nibble of the home-baked cakes and scones is a must.
Perhaps one of the most convenient features of the campsite is its location. Just a couple of minutes by car from the M5 it has a secluded countryside feel that belies how easily accessible it really is. Hop on the motorway and you can be by Devon’s best beaches within 40 minutes or walking in the wilds of Dartmoor or Exmoor national parks. If you do opt for the beaches in summer, then make sure you check whether dogs are allowed first. Tina and Paul offer a pet-sitting service if your pooch isn’t allowed, while the local area also provides plenty of space for dog walking opportunities.
Uffculme is just down the road. On the banks of the River Culm, the village was a centre of the West Country’s wool trade during the 16th century and now has a speckling of pretty old redbrick factories to show for it. The canal tow-path makes for a pleasant walking route. Pop into The George pub (dogs allowed in the bar area) for a pint afterwards and then ponder on what plants you should buy for the final journey home. Some daisies, perhaps? The perfect way to remember your stay at this blooming marvellous Devonshire glampsite.
The Owner Says
An ideal retreat for a relaxing, peaceful holiday, close to picturesque villages and the valleys of both Exmoor and Dartmoor. We provide safari tent glamping in glorious Devon close to award-winning golden sand beaches with National Trust and heritage properties close by. Whether you are here for the walking, surfing, sightseeing or just a relaxing break at Daisy Meadows we have thought of everything to make your stay memorable.
Situated on the site of The Gardeners Nursery in 2.5 acres of grounds just 2 minutes from junction 27 M5 and Tiverton Parkway train station often called “The Gateway to Devon”. Our luxury safari tents are surrounded by flowers, wildlife and nature.
A family business we live on site and having stayed in Safari Tents, we fell in love with with glamping. Whilst we love the outdoors, bringing our dog and al fresco eating, we wanted a comfy bed and log stove to come home to.
Here we feel the mix is just right, we can provide a doggy day crèche should you wish to bring your dog on holiday but want to spend the day shopping or go to a show and still come back at the end of the day to your happy hound.
We can even cook you a evening meal and leave it in your fridge to pop into your stove when you arrive home. Or leave local sausages, bacon and our own eggs for breakfast.
Thank you to Tina and Paul for another fantastic stay at Daisy Meadows. We booked the two tents for friends and ourselves after staying in the summer last year and we were not dissapointed. We were very lucky to have the first gloriously sunny weekend of the year which meant that we could make the most of the amazing outdoor space of the meadow. The tents are so cosy with lovely bedding and comfortable beds making for a great nights sleep. There is everything you need in the camping kitchen including some tea, coffee, milk, sugar, candles to start you off. We love the water heating stove in the bathroom. Tina and paul are so warm and welcoming and are able to provide meals etc at a reasonable cost. We would definately recommend Tina's yummy lasagne. We will be back again next year for sure.
