Lowarth Glamping

UK England South West England Cornwall Padstow

Rest and relaxation guaranteed at this stunningly-located, Cornish glampsite, right on the famous Camel Trail

There's something about snaking round these high-hedged Cornish lanes that just screams "getting away from it all". With the accompanying patchwork greenery of fields scythed by the meandering River Camel Estuary, this northern stretch of the south-west peninsula really is spoilt with breathtaking spots for a pitch up. With everything from wild, cliff-side hideaways to luxuriously, secluded glampsites on offer, it takes something extra special indeed to stand out from the pack in the vast swathe designated the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Something exactly like Lowarth Glamping & Workshop Retreats.

A retreat in the truest sense of the word, Lowarth is all about good old fashioned "r n' r". Tucked away just off one of these anonymous country lanes, Avril Rea has transformed her Chapel Farm paddock into one of Cornwall's most eye-catching new glampsites. The stars of the show are the four brand-spanking new Lotus Belle tents. Bright, airy and with ample room to stand, these ingenious designs are the future of luxury camping. Kitted out with shaggy rugs, comfy double beds, wood-burning stove and solar fairy lights, each Lotus becomes your very own private cocoon of cosiness. What's more, each has an en suite mini kitchen tent at the rear, boasting all the bits and bobs you'll need top knock up some fine campsite cuisine.

Each tent is pitched in the south-facing back garden, with room to spare, and the mature native hedges provide added privacy – save for the enquiring thoroughbred-horses in the field next door. There's even enough room for four or so tents, should the luxury abodes be all booked up.

There's a real easy-going effortlessness about Lowarth, from the hi-spec wooden washblock (immaculately clean), to the communal fire pit area – (just grab some comfy cushions from the laundry room, with marshmallows at the ready). But for those looking to really unwind, look no further than the onsite Treatment Cabin. Within this tranquil dwelling, guests can indulge in some hands-on-healing courtesy of Avril's Shiatsu Treatment.

As if you needed any more enticement to unwind, the panoramic views from the site are breathtaking – the wilds of Bodmin Moor, the Tamar Valley, the headland on either side of the Camel Estuary, to the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. On a clear day you can see as far as Rough Tor and Brown Willy, the two highest points on Bodmin Moor.

As twilight looms, the lack of light pollution makes for a stunning show of stars. It's also blissfully quiet (unless of course you've hired this place for your own private party)... save for the nocturnal noises of the resident wildlife. Listen out for the hoots and howls of the owls and rooks and even the odd grunting badger.

The Owner Says

Lowarth Glamping is an award winning site situated in a Designated Area of Outstanding Beauty in glorious North Cornwall.

The glamping site has wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and a view of the River Camel Estuary and out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Lowarth is the Cornish word for Garden.  Our pretty garden site is situated in deep countryside, yet is a short walk from our local award wining Quarryman Pub/restaurant and only 5 minutes by car from the A39, Atlantic Highway that runs right across Cornwall.   We are also a 20 minute cycle ride from the famous Camel Trail that runs from Bodmin, through Wadebridge and on to Padstow.

Lowarth has four luxury 5 meter Lotus Belle Tents suitable for a family and one  4 meter tent which is ideal for a couple.  The tents are made from a high quality canvas, professionally cleaned and waterproofed annually.   All the tents are shaped like yurts rather than the usual bell tents and have full height standing room everywhere in the tent.    The tents stand on a platform and are divided from their neighbouring tents by a garden of mature shrubs and small trees.

The tents are carpeted and are lit by solar fairy lights and one solar over-head light and heated by a wood burning stove.

The 4 meter tent is furnished with one double bed, two sets of drawers for your clothes,  2 futon chairs either side of the wood burner.    The 5 meter tents have a double bed and a day bed with underbed trundle, sets of drawers, table and chairs, towel rail and coat stand.    All the tents have direct access to their own  fully equipped, wooden kitchen annex with everything necessary for a self-catering stay.

Outside of all the tents are table and chairs for alfresco dining with a brazier for cooler evenings.

Lowarth has a modern toilet and shower block with 4 toilets, 2 shower rooms and a utility room that has a fridge, a freezer, a microwave, a hairdryer and a bank of sockets to re-charge your phones etc., as well as a full size sink for washing dishes with hot and cold water.

There is a large Fire Pit for social groups and a smaller fire pit for families on site.   In the centre of the site is a covered deck area we call 'Top Deck' with table and benches and new for 2018 there is a large social tent for rainy days.

Lowarth has it's own 'Tarotvan' where Avril can give Tarot Card readings,  and it's own treatment cabin where Aileen can give you a Shiatsu Massage.

An utterly MAGICAL experience

This site was my little secret, I've been coming here from it's first year and I've seen it change in so many great ways! The views are amazing, the beds are comfy and the little wood burner is more than enough to keep the tent warm!, the amenities are kept in crystal clean condition and the kitchens have just about everything you could want. You're far enough away from everything for the site nice and quiet, but at the same time close enough that it's not out of the way, most of the time all you ever hear is bird song, the sheep and horses in the fields next door. Avril the site owner is an utterly amazing person and nothing is to much trouble!. I would recommend this place to everyone, but then it wouldn't be my little secret!
