Exclusive, luxury glamping on your own private beach in North Cornwall
Imagine your dream camping scenario, turn the dial up a few more notches and you might find yourself thinking of something close to Lusty Glaze Beach in North Cornwall. Want a good tent? How about a luxury bell tent with a double bed and its own private wetroom facilities. Want to be near the beach? How about glamping right on the sands, in your own private cove with curling cliffs around you and the sea lapping just metres away. Want good food? Why don’t we add a restaurant to that beach, with an executive chef who can offer the freshest seafood and a barman that’ll shake up a Manhattan for you to sip at sundown. Even the name of the place, Lusty Glaze Beach, seems almost fairytale.
Lusty Glaze is, however, very much a reality and the real magnificence of the place if brought home to you in full force when you arrive on the cliffs above the cove and look out over it all, taking in the view: The sea; the cove; the bell tents on the sand below. You’re here.
Guests make their entrance to our site, down the 133-step staircase that makes up the only main access way to the beach. Once you’re down on the sands, there really is a new sense of seclusion to the place, only broken by whoops from people playing in the surf and the buzz of jet skis or motorboats further out at sea. Depending on what time of day you arrive you might try and book in an activity straight away – surfing lessons, perhaps, or yoga – or just settle in to your bell tent.
Whether you choose to accept it or not, the few glampers lucky enough to get a space here are still in the real world. With a trek back up the steps you’ll find yourself just a jot north of Newquay town, which takes around 10 minutes to walk into. There’s a glut of restaurants and shops to explore and, of course, plenty more beaches, while, in the opposite direction you can walk around to Porth Beach or follow the South West Coast Path out to Trevelgue Head for a picnic (pre-packed by the chef, naturally). Indeed, the hike up and down the 133 steps is probably about the only hardship that there is here. And the perfect excuse to claim you never really need to leave.
Luxury bell tents have their own washrooms and outdoor areas, with beach blankets, and BBQs all provided. Dine in food options will be available as needed during your stay, alongside beach activities (we’d highly recommend booking these in advance to guarantee your spaces)
Glamping only. Note: the only access to the site is via the 133-step staircase
Most people come here for the privacy and exclusivity of Lusty Glaze Beach itself, so expect to spend a lot of your time chilling on the sands and enjoying the sea. When you fancy heading back out, though, climb the 133 steps back out of the cove and you'll find yourself on the South West Coast Path, with Newquay just a 10-minute walk away and a handful of the best beaches in the area also within easy reach – it's a 10 minute drive to Fistral Beach and 15 to Perranporth. For activities inland, the Eden Project (01726 811911) is a half-hour drive, while the enchanting Lost Gardens of Heligan (01726 845100) are around 40 minutes
Food & Drink
Enjoy strolls along the South West Coast Path and access to Lusty Glaze Beach's own private bar and restaurant. This is exclusive camping, after all, so expect all the bells and whistles that go with it. For options elsewhere, though, Newquay is chocker-block with options, from fresh seafood from The Boathouse (01637 874062) overlooking the harbour, to casual dining at 12 Beach Road (01637 877098) and pizza at The Stable (01637 878311)

Lovely beach but not 'luxury' glamping
Sadly we were disappointed with our stay at Lusty Glaze. For the price paid we had expected so much more in terms of the 'luxury' that was advertised. All you get in the yurt is an airbed, 2 (very flat) pillows, thin duvet, rug, and a small table. There are 2 deck chairs outside but if the weather is bad and/or you just want privacy it was not at all comfortable to chillout in the tent. We were glad we brought our own blankets! However they did have excellent social distancing measures in place which included each tent having their own allocated wetroom/toilet and dining table at mealtimes, and everything was very clean. But you can't control the temperature of the water in the shower, which was cooler than I like. The staff are warm and friendly, but the menu choice is very limited, and the quality of food is not great for the price charged. We found breakfast was too greasy and so for the remainder of our stay we found some lovely artisan places to eat in town instead. The beach itself is lovely, the sunsets are beautiful and it was wonderful to wake up to the sight and sound of the sea every day. However, the beach is really not that quiet or secluded. Watersports are organised there which brings visitors including noisy groups of young children, and at low tide people walk across from the adjoining Tolcarne beach. There are more beautiful and quieter beaches in Cornwall. Otherwise it is well located and we did enjoy the weekend exploring the North Coast. But we would not return as it is really poor value for money. Either reduce the price to match it's worth, or improve amenities to achieve luxury status. Suggest a mattress topper, improved bed linen/warmer duvet and maybe a couple of beanbags in the yurt for lounging inside, and to not charge extra for using the bbq. It would also be useful to provide in the area waste bins and dustpan and brush for brushing sand out the tent and washroom, and having a shelf in the washroom.
Glamping with a difference
We have just spent 3 days on a private beach and with everything we needed provided for us. The tents are large enough and although it’s only air beds they were comfortable to sleep on. There was food and drinks available and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had our own table in the restaurant and our own sofa to sit on anytime we wanted. However what makes this so special is the beach. Sleeping and waking to the sound of the waves, sitting by the fire pit at night and spending your day on a private beach with so few people is like a little bit of paradise in Cornwall. I would go back anytime.
We have just come back from a long weekend at lusty glaze and it was amazing! Such a beautiful place, was so lovely and relaxing we had the best few nights sleep we have had in a long time! The food in the restaurant was lovely and such a nice place and sea view from our table, on Saturday we had a bbq on the beach which was great and so picturesque with the sunset in the background and thesound of the sea! It was really good that we had our own allocated wash room and the tent itself was great and a decent size for what you need. The staff were lovely and friendly and always on hand for anything you may need! The sea was a lot closer than we thought it would be which made the experience even better… we had the most amazing weekend and loved every minute of our stay at lusty glaze and will defiantly be coming back
Sleeping on the beach at Lusty glaze is a unique experience and one we enjoyed.
Whether this can be classified as glamping is debatable. Other than a private washroom you are basically sleeping on an air bed in a tent that only has space to stand up in the middle. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the food on the whole is good although the choice available is limited, no menus so basically you eat whatever the chef wants to serve. The same table and sofa were provided each mealtime which was nice. The location and the novelty of sleeping on a private beach with limited people is what makes it special, the sound of the sea to wake up to and fall asleep to is an amazing experience. For this to be true glamping it would need to have a proper bed, a bigger tent with storage, tent and washroom to be swept daily to remove sand, storage in washroom, printed menus with prices and wider meal choices (dietary requirements were requested but largely ignored!)
As relaxing as going abroad
We had a lovely 3-night stay in one of the tipi’s in Lusty Glaze. The private beach was fantastic, as were the sumptuous meals prepared by Chef Rich each day. Despite not being able to go abroad this year, this holiday really made us feel like we “got away”, which is a first for us in the UK! Surrounded by a relaxed surfing vibe, I now see why they call it Cornifornia! We were so happy with our trip, we’ll definitely be back.
Amazing beach, but glamping it certainly wasn't !
Unfortunately we did not have a particularly good experience stying at Lusty Glaze and felt that advertising it as glamping was misleading. Beach itself is stunning and has a great potential , but tents were way to small for family with awfully uncomfortable airbed mattresses; nowhere to put stuff , hot during the day cold at night, impossible to spend any time inside the tent which by the way you wouldn't want to as you could not stand up or sit up and lying on those mattresses just breaks your back. This is camping at its simplest and apart from having washroom facilities it should not be called glamping. Staff that worked in the restaurant was lovely and very friendly , but boy do they need to improve on the food. Very poor quality and hardly any choice apart from what chef has available and that is almost next to nothing . We wandered if they actually had an oven and a proper cooker in there as breakfast seemed like it came out of the microwave rather than being cooked. The fact that they do not serve lunch was also quite strange for a place that advertises itself as luxury glamping and comes with " all the bells and whistles" .. their words not mine. All in all beautiful beach if all you want to do is sit on the beach, but apart from that very little we would go back for. We left after a day which tells you enough. Not a value for money with it's current set up.
Beautiful, luxurious and unforgettable
I booked this fairly last minute after wanting something special after our wedding had been postponed. I had visited Lusty Glaze a couple times previously so was aware of how amazing it is (once you forget about the 133 steps to get to and from it). From the moment we got there Topher and the team were on hand for anything you needed and also for a chat. The set up is very professional from the bell tents to the 'chefs table' on the last night (not to be missed). A huge bonus of this place is the private shower/toilet facilities for each tent. The beach itself can only be described as stunning and the perfect place to watch an amazing sunset with a drink in your hand. All I can say is that if this is continued in the future we will definitely be back (will have to think about whether I order the 'dirty pancakes' again though 😂).
We had a fantastic stay at Lusty glaze with our 2 girls and black lab. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and ensured you had everything you needed. The facilities were spot on although a more luxurious air bed would be of benefit! The wash facilities were just enough and the water was always hot. The best bit was the seclusion. The beach really is all to yourselves and this felt both safe and also fortunate. We loved it that much we have booked a chalet stay for next year!
I found this place online completely by chance, and i'm super glad I did. My fiance and I had to postpone our wedding this year so decided to book a few nights at Lusty Glaze to enjoy some time away alone. The accommodation was beautiful! Who wouldn't want to wake up on the beach every morning?! Social distancing measures were effectively put in place for meals in the restaurant, serving delicious meals, especially for the chefs table night. All the staff were so nice and made the stay hugely relaxing and chilled out, and they were always glad to help with any questions or problems. We even had an amazing day out a few miles away thanks to a suggestion from one of the waitresses. The beach was beautiful and clean at all times, and we were very pleased with the private toilet facilities. We would return to Lusty Glaze in a heart beat. It was honestly one of the best holidays we've ever had, an absolutely wonderful place.
The place to go to forget your stresses
Lusty Glaze is a very special & unique place. It is the perfect place to come to be in the present and switch off for everyday stuff, this year has been a particular challenge to a lot of us but I soon forgot my worries arriving here! Whether you want a swim or simply to dip your toe in the sea early doors or after the beautiful sunset, the private beach is there for you. It is well kept & a great safe space to run around carefree with your dog or explore the rock pools with your kids. The team at Lusty Glaze are hardworking & looked after us well, their approach for me was perfect. They were laid back which helped you relax too, each day they presented tasty great food & offered unexpected entertainment along the way and new cocktails!! What a lovely, honest and passionate bunch you are Richard,Diane, Liv& Toph! The area itself was incredibly beautiful too all in all we will be back ! Thanks Lusty G and keep up the good work Nat, Matt & Albi xxx Ps readers of this if you don’t like sand then this is not the place for you!
I’ve just returned from a 3 night stay at the beach. I’m already missing the sound of the waves that sent you off to sleep and the amazing view from the tent. Defiantly what was needed after working through the whole pandemic. When we arrived you have to walk down lots of steps on the side of the cliff. So make sure to pack light. In the tent you get a blow up bed with duvet and blanket and lamp and a table. All the tents look pretty at night with fairy lights. My only little suggestion for the tent is maybe provide a small little bin and maybe a dust pan so if you get any sand you can brush out easily. When I first arrived I was a little concerned about people that where not staying in the tents having access to the beach. The beach is however closed to the public but when the tide is out people where able to walk round from the adjoining beach this was not a problem though most people where just curious and walked up and saw the tents and walk away again and if they sat on the beach they eventually where told by a staff member to politely leave. You also get a wet room with shower toilet and sink which is lockable. The bathroom facility Was very clean and like new. My only little suggestion would be to add a small shelf so that you can place your to toiletries out a little better. All staff at the Lusty glaze where excellent and very friendly and Currently at this time with covid are following all the rules and making sure everyone is safe. The food was amazing cooked by the chef each night. You was also allocated a table and sofa that where only urs for the stay. Beautiful sunsets each night and delicious cocktails. Couldn’t ask for more. I highly recommend staying here.
Amazing Unique experience

Magic place to spend your holidays - Definitely recommended
We spent 3 night at this incredible place. The tents are spacious and comfortable, you have your own private bathroom and changing room and the best is that you have the restaurant building where you have your own sofa and table, so you can be there relaxing while drinking wine, a coffe or a cocktail (follow your mood!) and reading a book or playing games. The staff attention and the activities are unique and it is a big plus to the whole experience, making you feel like a queen (or a king)! We did Yoga everyt morning in the beach, and had the option to surf or do jet sky. The beach is AMAZING! and the best is that is private to you! so even if the weather is not good you do the most of this experience and live a superb holiday. Definitely recommended! Hopefully I will come back soon. Specially for the post-covid times this is the perfect holiday. Thank you for all!
Where to start! We’ve just got home after the most amazing stay at this idyllic resort. It’s almost like Cornwall’s parallel of the Maldives! We stayed for 3 nights in a luxury bell tent which was very well equipped and included: double air bed, duvet, pillows, mirror, side tables, rugs, fairy lights, bunting and deck chairs. Each bell tent has its own private beach hut style bathroom just a few steps away. Our bathroom was absolutely spotless (I am a self confessed clean freak and was seriously impressed) and modern. It was like a hotel bathroom as opposed to a campsite one! I can’t sing the praises of the staff enough. Their collective team effort creates a released, warm and friendly culture; something that really brings the place together. The chef is seriously talented and will do anything to accommodate your needs. I requested mussels for dinner at breakfast and they were there on the menu by the evening! He goes down to the local butcher and to the harbor and orders fresh that day. Honestly the best mussels I’ve ever had and the breakfasts were delicious too. One point to note is that the restaurant isn’t open for lunch so either take along some snacks or consider walking out somewhere if you get hungry. We hired surf boards on our last day as the company Waverunner Safaris are based on the same beach which is so handy! The only other people, apart from guests of the tents, that use the beach are visitors that have booked to use the company. The beach is empty most of the time but it’s nice to have something to watch! We really enjoyed watching the staff riding out the jet skis over the waves. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re looking for a unique experience that you’ll never forget then you should definitely book! This is the most luxurious holiday I’ve been on - hard to image when you hear the word “tent”! A weekend we will never forget!
Unbelievably dream-like location - being able to wake up in your yurt to see and hear the ocean is second to none. The beach is private so there are no crowds, the restaurant and bar are able to cater to all of your whim's, and the whole place feels very relaxing and peaceful. People that holiday there are couple's, small families, small groups of friends, people bring pets too. People are not intrusive and the staff are so warm and welcoming. One member of staff, Topher, is a shoeless delight!
