A pair of fully furnished, family-sized, glamping yurts on a working farm in Looe, Cornwall
There’s something ever so right about describing this valley as ‘enchanting’. The stream that bubbles its way through the 34-acre small holding ranges from a soundscape of gurgling to an almost silent trickle when the weather is dry. The long grasses change from a buttercup speckled yellow in June to a light, sun-scorched green by August. And the trees, hedges and saplings are as inviting to children as any artificial playground. It’s a wonderful place to explore.

The yurts here have been fittingly finished to provide the same enchanting feel. Solar-powered fairy lights and lanterns cast their ambient light across the exposed wooden lattice on the inside of each structure, while wood burners and colour-schemed furnishings give a warm and cosy feel. They are, of course, also perfectly practical. Each of the two yurts sleeps up to six people – saving space with the use of fold away futons – and are accompanied by a neighbouring cabin with your own private shower and toilet facilities. The mown grass provides children a space to play and also leads you to a communal log cabin that’s home to the main kitchen and dining area. It comes complete with everything you need (including a range cooker) and there’s an outside cooking area with a proper pizza oven and a campfire.

Owl Yurt is perhaps the more secluded of the two, with the stream and a line of bushes slightly separating it and involves crossing a tiny bridge to get there, while Pheasant Yurt is closer to the kitchen area. When the sun’s out, it’s all so nice it’s difficult to leave. The raised wooden platforms on which each yurt sits has outdoor furniture where you can sit and enjoy a sun-downer and you can even put your feet up and relax under the guise of ‘supervising the kids’. They’re always keen to wander off to find the horses and llamas grazing the meadows just around the corner. Don’t worry, they’re a very friendly bunch.

Enchanting though it may be, there is life beyond the valley (really, there is) and once you drag yourself away you’ll be quick to realise that the coast is the real draw here. It’s a 15-minute drive to the beaches of the south and the charming harbour town of Looe, stacked up along the steep sides of the river valley. From there you can chug out on the ferry to the nature reserve of Looe Island or join the coastal path to wander to neighbouring coves and beaches.

Yurts are fully furnished with a double bed, day beds and futons (including bedding for the main bed and extra bedding if required) and have log burners for cooler evenings. On the wooden deck outside there is a table, chairs and chimenea. Both share the kitchen and shower facilities. The kitchen has a range cooker with gas hob and electric oven, a microwave, toaster, kettle, juicer, cutlery and crockery, tables and chairs for a rainy day, storage, fridge and a freezer. Outside there is a dining tent with a bench table and a further outdoor cooking area with a wood-burning pizza oven, BBQ and campfire area. Each yurt also has its own shower and flushing toilet facilities in a neighbouring log cabin. If it’s raining there are board games in kitchen, drawing books and crayons and painting and craft sessions can be organised.

Suitable For

Glamping only. Tents, campervans, caravans, dogs – no.

There are plenty of walks and trails directly from the campsite – including a walk to Porfell Wildlife Park (01503 220211), an animal sanctuary with exotic animals from around the world. You could head to Bodmin Moor for more challenging walks or enjoy the beautiful coastal path leading down into coves and beaches. Looe and Polperro take you back in time with their interesting streets wandering down to the harbour and beaches. The Monkey Sanctuary (01503 262532) is just the other side of Looe and well worth a visit, set on the cliffs it is the atmospheric home to rescued monkeys with beautiful views and gardens. Or visit the nature reserve on Looe Island by boat.

Food & Drink

There are plenty of top places to eat and drink around Looe (and plenty with great live music too). For something a little different, Ocean Earth (01503 263080) serve great Thai food and there's also a Chinese (01503 264500) and, of course, fish and chips (01503 263091). In terms of pubs, the closest to the campsite is The Jubilee Inn (01503 220312) at Pelynt – excellent food for lunch and evening meals – while The Rashleigh Inn (‘the inn on the beach’; 01726 813991) at Polkerris has the best views. Rick Stein's restaurant and café (01841 532700) in Padstow is the best for fresh fish. For everyday supplies, the village of Lanreath has a community run shop and post office (01503 220997) selling local produce and everyday needs. It's within walking distance, although up a steep hill. For more major supplies there's a Spar in Pelynt (01503 220239), a Co-Op in Looe (01503 262249) or major supermarkets in Liskeard and Bodmin.

Easter–October. Check in before dark.

Family Friendly

Campfires. Stargazing from bed. Home comforts under canvas. No wonder yurts are the accommodation of choice in the Mongolian desert. And with an exotic wildlife park within walking distance, Enchanted Valley Yurts could be in a foreign land too were it not for the British weather.

Amazing stay

We had an amazing 4 night stay in Owl yurt! The yurt was well furnished, decorated and extremely warm and comfortable. The decking provided table and chairs with added sun loungers and chimenea. The kitchen area exceeded expectations with all facilities and amenities you could ask for. The use of your own toilet and shower was also an added bonus! We used the yurts for exploring nearby beaches and towns and can honestly say was one of the most relaxing holidays we have had. Thanks to Amanda and Allan for attentiveness and hospitality. We will definitely be booking for next year

Peace, tranquility and escape

We stayed in the Owl Yurt for 3 nights and have been blown away! The surroundings are absolutely beautiful and a nature lover's dream. We loved the Yurt and the facilities are excellent. We will definitely be coming back next year to recharge our batteries! The location is also fantastic - some beautiful places in Cornwall to explore which are close. We took our little boy to the Eden Project for the first time which was only a 20 minute drive. Highly and thoroughly recommend a stay here!

Thank you Sarah for your review, we are so pleased you had a happy stay with us and enjoyed exploring Cornwall.

Fabulous escape getting back to nature.

We have just returned from an amazing 4 night stay in the Owl yurt, feeling really lucky to have managed to secure a booking at this hidden gem. Set in the most beautiful valley well away from any hustle and bustle with the feel of the great outdoors but with all the mod cons needed. Everything was immaculate, especially the kitchen and bathroom, and the hosts include a wealth of added extras that took away the stress of making sure we remembered everything. The yurt was stunning, a really unique experience and the kids loved being able to roam free in nature. The only negative is that we weren't there longer. Thank you to Amanda and Allan, we really hope to visit again 😊

Response from Enchanted Valley Yurts

Thank you Emma ,I'm glad you and the children enjoyed the freedom of outdoors with wildlife noises for company. We would love to see you all back again sometime.

Absolutely wonderful! ..can I give 6 stars?!

Me and my teens are just back from a weekends stay in Pheasant Yurt, after being recommended Enchanted Valley Yurts by a friend who's just stayed there with his son. I could not rate this place higher, it a gem!! Not only are the yurts beautifully presented and set within a gorgeous meadow and wooded countryside, but the facilities are fantastically clean and organised, with everything you'd need to make your stay a comfortable home from home experience. The shower and loo cabin is really intelligently designed and spacious with plently of room for a families worth of toiletries and towels, theres a shower stool, shoe rack, individual towel driers and even a (good) hairdryer. The kitchen is superbly appointed and ultra clean (which is usually where places get my thumbs down) again with plenty of storage room in both the cupboard and fridge/ freezer. Is cosy and warm, fro when the rain sets in, so you can eat breakfast or supper at the farmhouse table and look out over the meadow. The hosts were helpful and friendly.. the only down side as far as we are concerned is that we couldn't take Florence (their gorgeous dog) home with us! I can seem quite tricky to please with accommodation (as family and friends regularly tell me!) but honestly, I couldn't fault this wonderful, enchanting place...and I didn't even manage to mention the fire pit, outdoor pizza oven or yurt stove...! All tried and tested and loved by us. Thank you so much Amanda and Allan, we hope to see you again, soon xx

Beautiful memories made, we loved it!!

We just came back from a 3 night stay at Enchanted Valley Yurts and we could not have loved it more. We went with our 3 boys, aged 6, 4 and 1 and we all made the most amazing memories. The boys loved every second of it, from the yurt itself, to the awesome tree house, all the wonderful animals (especially Florence the dog!!), and just the vast amount of space and freedom they had to play! Our 1 year old just spent 3 days wandering around and giggling!! The yurt itself is lovely, incredibly clean and the beds are extremely comfy. We spent the evenings lying on the loungers watching the beautiful sky and even seeing a few shooting stars.....along with bats and a barn owl having a feed! Amanda and Allan were just lovely and very welcoming. My eldest asked about a million questions about all the animals and they answered every one ha! Cannot rate this place highly enough, we cannot wait to go back. Thanks again x

Beautiful location with five-star facilities

Staying at enchanted valley yurts was a wonderful and special experience. The yurt itself was extremely comfortable and warm, very clean, tastefully and thoughtfully decorated. The kitchen area, just a short distance from the yurt, was extremely well stocked with cooking utensils and crockery. It also housed a microwave, kettle, toaster, double gas range and fridge freezer which made it a real home from home. The shower/bathroom area was beautifully built with an incredibly powerful shower and endless hot water. The location is stunning, we had the pleasure to view owls, bats and pheasants, and listen to the accompanying soundtrack of a cockerel, sheep and the many different species of birds which was incredibly relaxing. With views over the rolling hills from the comfort of your bed the whole experience makes you feel like visiting royalty. I cannot recommend this tranquil and unique experience enough, it has all the positive hallmarks of camping but coupled with the luxury of all your home comforts.
