Pond-side glamping on the farm with a fantastic 17th-century pub just a short walk away

We love weddings at Cool Camping and it’s been a tough year for happy couples who’ve had to rearrange their plans. But romance’s loss is camping’s gain, as usually exclusive wedding venues like Hadsham Farm open their doors to glamping guests instead. Open for just a couple of months this summer, this peaceful retreat in the north of the Cotswolds is a perfect place to find some last-minute summer space in a year when staycations are order of the day.

Five miles northeast of Banbury, Hadsham is home to just eight bell tents on the edge of a sparkling, triangular lake with an island in the middle and a cosy couple’s shepherd’s hut in a raised position overlooking it all. The lake is farmer Charlie’s doing. His family have farmed here for over a century and he’s been working hard to regenerate the space, planting thousands of trees to replace old Elm and digging out the lake to create more space for wildlife. The result is a glamping site with ample birdlife and vegetation and handy, wedding-standard facilities you can use, including plush toilets, three modern showers and the covered tipi area that's usually used for wedding receptions (now a handy chill-out space).

Naturally, there’s a beautiful old church a mile away but there’s also a fantastic 17th-century pub, The Dun Cow – thatched, low-beamed, flagstone-floored and with a large garden to the rear. A mile or so beyond, meanwhile, you’ll find the National Trust’s Upton House and Gardens and good footpaths around Edge Hill. You can walk to it all from the glamping site (it’s around an hour’s walk from Hadhsam Farm to Upton House) and then stop off at the pub on the way back.

Bell tents are pitched on the lakeside in the bottom of a natural valley and feature bedside tables, fairy lights, a charger pack for mobile phones, a pair of rattan lounge chairs, a small coffee table, a mirror and a rug (you need to bring your own bedding). Outside each tent is a wooden picnic bench. The shepherd's hut is tucked in a high corner overlooking the site. It has an en-suite loo and shower, a 'kitchen' space with a fridge and kettle but no other cooking facilities. Likewise, no bedding provided. Other toilets are located adjacent to a large tipi structure, usually used for weddings, and may be a little walk from your accommodation. The tipi itself provides a large covered space, which guests are free to use should they need (such as sheltering from the weather). There is fairy lighting throughout and tables will be arranged and allocated to accommodation units – a good place to play a board game or two with a glass of wine (or two!).

Suitable For

Glampers – yes. Campers with tents, campervans, caravans or dogs – no.

It takes less than half an hour to walk into the little thatched village of Hornton, which marks the northern edge of the Cotswolds but is perhaps one of the most archetypal of Cotswolds' spots. There's an excellent little pub (01295 670524) there overlooking the village playground. A coupe of miles from Hadsham Farm, just beyond the village, is Upton House and Gardens (01295 670266), an elegant stately home with 1930s period displays, garden terraces and walking trails. It's looked after by the National Trust and there's a good bookstore near the entrance (there's ample parking but you can walk here in under and hour from the glamping site). If stately homes are your thing, it's also six miles Broughton Castle (01295 276070), a fortified manor house with a moat and well tended garden. Banbury Town is less than five miles.

Food & Drink

Look now further than the Dun Cow (01295 670524), a lovely, thatched, low-beamed, flagstone-floored pub with a large open fire and a spacious garden to the rear. Freshly-cooked, locally-sourced food is available at weekends and there's Hook Norton Hooky on tap along with Sharpe's Doom Bar. It's a 25-minute walk from your bell tent.

This is such a magical place and we are so glad we got the opportunity to stay before it reverts back to a wedding venue. The bell tents are super comfy and the showers and loos look like they come out of a stylish magazine! Waking up to see the mist above the lake on a sunny morning was a great way to start the day. We visited a few of the local pubs and the locals couldn’t have been more friendly. It’s a great place for long walks with few people around. Rob was a great host too. We wish the family every success with their future ventures, and if you are thinking of booking, just do it!

Hadsham Farm nails it again!

We had our wedding in this stunning venue last year so couldn't wait to come back and stay for our anniversary. We booked the Shepherds Hut and it was worth every penny and more. It really is beautiful and has everything you could need. The finishing touches are fantastic, and details of local amenities are provided for you if you dont know the area. We were very fortunate with the weather, but even if we weren't we would have been quite happy lying in bed watching the view across the lake as its simply beautiful. The owners are fantastic and couldn't do more for you. Whole heartedly recommend this place to everyone. Will be a massive shame to not be able to go again next year!

Tranquil, gorgeous setting, VIP loos/showers

Beautiful place. If you’re in any doubt, go for it before the summer ends and it turns back into a wedding only venue! Fairy lights all round lake and in the tipis, v comfy bed, felt v safe (I was here alone), fridge to leave a few bits in, plenty of power banks to charge your phone, very helpful and responsive owners, toilets and showers are VIP , very quiet and peaceful! Nights are a tad chilly being end of summer so bring some warm layers or an extra blanket for the night. I had two sleeping bags and a ski hat on and was too hot!!! I would love to come back here.

Tranquil, 5* glamping. VIP showers/loos

Great experience, bed super comfy, fridge to leave a few bits in if you need, plenty of battery packs to charge your phone, no mosquitos even being by a lake, pretty fairy lights in the tent & all around lake, small so very quiet and peaceful, I was solo and felt very safe, VIP loos and showers. If you’re in any doubt, go for it before the summer ends! Gets a tad chilly at night being end of summer but I was snug as a bug with two sleeping bags and a hat on...too hot in fact! Owners very helpful and responsive! Thank you, Hadsham

A lovely time at an amazing venue!

The facilities at Hadsham Farm are excellent - the tents are all spotless, the showers and toilets are brand new and sparkling clean, and the main tipi and outside fire pit are great places to chill out. The beds are really comfy and we loved the individual picnic tables outside our tent. Some lovely walks nearby and a fantastic local pub.

Perfect holiday despite terrible weather

I had another review typed out but the website seems to have lost it before I could submit. I would 100% recommend Hadsham Farm for a sparkling clean, covid-secure and weatherproof glamping holiday. Everything was considered and we had a great time even though the weather was awful the weekend of our visit.

Amazing place!

We stayed at this beautiful place for 2 nights. I must say it looks much better than the photos we saw on the website prior to our journey. We met and spoke to the owners as well and they were really helpful. We highly recommend this place.

Tranquil and peacful

We booked the Shepard's Hut on one of the hottest weekends of the year! The overall site was very well laid out with space between the yurts, and the Shepard's hut was tucked away in one corner of the field. The hut was very clean and again well laid out. Just enough space for two people. I imagine it would be lovely and cosy in the winter! The lake was so pretty, especially at night with little lights all around it. And the whole site felt lovely and quiet. It's a short drive to Banbury where there are supermarkets, etc. And not far at all from some lovely local pubs. We had a really peaceful, relaxing stay.

The best experience ever!

Both me and my partner were blown away by how beautiful, calm and perfectly located Hadsham Farm pop up glamping site was. We cannot rate this place highly enough, it was immaculately clean and had fabulous showers with an amazing changing room. We had the use of the huge tipi area which was strewn with fairy lights, perfect. There is a chill out space with comfy chairs and beanbags. Ohh also there’s a fab fire pit. Hand gels and sprays are in all toilets and around the site to avoid covid 19. . I would most definitely go again and again. I am now calm, tanned and relaxed.

Fantastic glamping experience

Beautiful setting, the photos don’t do it justice. We enjoyed a weekend relaxing around the lake and evenings around the fire pit! An excellent location where we could wander to the local pubs through the fields and visit the beautiful Cotswold villages in the surrounding area!

First class glamping experience

What an absolutely amazing hidden gem. We booked for a weekend of chilled get-away from at all and that is exactly what we received. Spotlessly clean and the facilities on site had been clearly thought about even down to the labelled drinking water in the communal fridge and anti-bac wipes in each bell tent.,The walk to the local pub is approximately 30 minutes away (map provided) and is signposted clearly. The accommodation was well spaced from the other accommodations around the pond. Extremely hospitable hosts and we hope they offer this again next year.
