The Owner Says

Set in it's own private space in our historic 'nut plat' Bomford is perfect for a short break under the stars. Situated on the bank of the River Bourne, Ransoms enjoys views across the Kent countryside, peace and quiet and is a great place to hear the dawn chorus.

Just 45 minutes from London you can escape to your own private space with a vintage living van offering a full sized double bed - with feather and down duvet and plump pillows and cotton bed linen. There's also a  wood burning stove, and a table and chairs to sit in the warm - or escape from the sun for playing scrabble or reading a book.

Bomford comes with its own camp kitchen, with all basic pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and teas, coffees, oils, sugar lumps, salt, pepper, and marshmallows! There's a two ring gas stove or a Webber BBQ or you can cook over the coals of your private fire pit.

The separate shower room has a gas powered shower, basin and plenty of room to get changed. Fresh towels and a shower mat are supplied.

Off grid living means you have your own compost loo here, but we've also spoilt you with battery powered lighting and a USB port to charge your mobile phones - but why not leave everything off and just use the tea lights provided.

Locally, the walks and cycle routes are a real draw. Circular walking routes take in some of our quintessential country pubs. The National Trust's Ightham Mote is a 40 minute walk away across the fields, or more locally, English Heritage look after Old Soar Manor a solar temple.

For those with a car, the Kent coast or Sussex coast are both an hour or so away - trendy up and coming Margate to the East, bucket and spade Camber Sands to the South and the oysters of Whitstable to the North.

Nearby

Locally, the walks and cycle routes are a real draw. Circular walking routes take in some of our quintessential country pubs. The National Trust's Ightham Mote is a 40 minute walk away across the fields – the medieval moated manor house that John Newman described as "the most complete small medieval manor house in the county" – while, closer still, English Heritage look after 13th century Old Soar Manor (0370 333 1181; a 20-minute walk away). 400-year-old Knole House and Park makes for a lovely stroll and, while there, it's worth visiting Sevenoaks too for the good variety of independent shops. Tonbridge (4 miles) has a castle (01732 770929) and more good shopping, while those happy to go for a drive will find the Kent coast or Sussex coast are both an hour or so away – trendy up and coming Margate to the east, bucket and spade Camber Sands to the south and the oysters of Whitstable to the north.

Food & Drink

It's an easy 200m stroll to The Kentish Rifleman (01732 810727), a typical English village pub serving good food. The Papermakers Arms (01732 810407) is a mile away, while The Swan on the Green (01622 812271) is particularly nice to walk to – a scenic 45-minute route across the fields, the pub is set on a quintessential village green with great food and its own micro-brewery. For local produce, try Shipbourne Farmers’ Market, held in St Giles Church every Wednesday (9am–11am).

A tranquil spot

We loved the peace and quiet of this spot. Eating by the fire and then enjoying the hot tub under the stars. We even caught crayfish in the river! Can't wait to return.

Idyllic mini break😊

We stayed in Ransoms Shepherd’s hut for two nights. Such a wonderful spot to get away from it all. The hot tub was perfect and we didn’t leave our little spot for 48 hours😊.
