A spacious summer bell tent site with campfires allowed, set in the New Forest National Park

Bell tents and grassy meadows are a match made in glamping heaven. So what to do if you have one but not the other? Kick your glamping dreams into the long grass? Of course not! You seek out your perfect partner and, together, create a summer site that offers a rather lovely, rustic but ready-made camping experience for people who don’t want to pitch a tent. Well, that’s what the brains behind South Coast Glamping have done anyway.

Rebecca and AJ have been pitching bell tents for years, usually at weddings and events, but since 2019 they’ve had a kind of summer residency at Teddy’s Farm, a Cool Camping-rated, 28-day site in the New Forest. The location in the southern part of the national park between Brockenhurst and Lymington could hardly be more idyllic. Those who have been camping here pay tribute to that in the five-star reviews they leave behind – and now it’s time for glampers to share it too. Not that it’s overly glamp-y. This is what you might call glamping for campers or even camping for glampers; a simple set up with the type of tent you’d love to own, set up ready for your arrival.

There are up to 30 off-grid bell tents set up in South Coast Glamping’s vast field. Each has matting, a pair of luxury camp beds, a bedside table, pretty bunting plus a bench table set and solar lights outside – as well as a huge amount of surrounding space. The rest is yours to customise. Go pretty with throws and cushions or keep it simple with just the camping kit you need – but whatever you do, don’t forget the bedding (that’s not included here). Campfires are allowed – either hire a fire pit with your booking, or bring your own. There is plenty of firewood available for purchase direct from Teddy the farmer and, from August, pasture-fed lamb for sale.

If the sun is shining, you could easily spend all day on site but let’s not forget the location. This is the New Forest with its wild-roaming ponies, free-running deer, ancient trees and open heathland. It’s ripe for exploration whether on foot, by bike or open-top bus tour. You can walk 10 minutes from site and be in open-access forest, hire bikes in nearby Brockenhurst to cycle among the trees or drive for five minutes to reach the coast at Lymington.

There are eight individual, nice, events-style portable loos shared between the bell tents (including one disabled access loo) and three hot showers for the exclusive use of the glampsite (plus another six hot showers shared with campers in the neighbouring field. For ease of use there's an app, 'MyCampingApp', where you can book your shower slot before arrival to ensure no time is wasted queuing (more details are provided upon booking). The shared area is also where you’ll find a tap to fill your washing-up bowl and a freezer available for ice packs (no charge). Campfires are permitted in the fire pits available to pre-book or hire on site.

Suitable For

South Coast Glamping offers bell tents and is suited to glampers only. But it's set on Teddy's Farm Campsite where tents and small campervans are also welcome in the neighbouring field. Dogs welcome too. Caravans and motorhomes are not permitted.

Teddy’s Farm lies in the southern part of the New Forest, with the national park eminently explorable by foot from the campsite. There are plenty of scenic trails and cycle routes – with bike hire available at Cyclexperience (01590 624808) in Brockenhurst. The scenic port town Lymington is just five minutes’ drive away. Its quaint cobbled streets boast cute shops and cafés. Be sure to visit Lymington Sea Water Baths (01590 678882) if it’s open – the UK’s oldest lido. Beachwise, there are sandy stretches of coast nearer Bournemouth. Alternatively, seek out the sailing hub of Keyhaven (six miles away) and stroll the shingle beach to Hurst Castle (0370 333 1181). This 16th-century fortress was built by Henry VIII to safeguard the entrance to The Solent. Learn about its fascinating history whilst admiring the views towards The Needles and the Isle of Wight. The National Motor Museum (01590 612345) at Beaulieu (seven miles away) makes for a perfect rainy day activity.

Food & Drink

Throughout select dates in July and August, third-party food and drink suppliers provide food and drink on the campsite, including a bar, a pizza wagon and fresh coffee. Farm-reared, pasture-fed lamb from Teddy’s flock is available to buy onsite (usually from August onwards). The pick of the local pubs is The Red Lion (01590 673177) in Boldre – just a 10–15 mins walk from the farm. This quintessential New Forest inn boasts timber beams, a lovely beer garden, a fine variety of ales and a menu of hearty dishes that celebrate the best local produce. Wine aficionados should seek out Setley Ridge Vineyard (01590 622246) five minutes away, just outside Brockenhurst. Tasting tours can be arranged and you can stock up at the onsite farm shop. The vineyard also boasts a cracking bistro in the Rosie Lea Kitchen (01590 622908). There are plenty more dining options in Lymington too.

Selected dates in July and August only.

Fantastic Stay at a Lovely Quiet Camp

We stayed for 3 nights at the Teddy's Farm bell tents and we had such a lovely time. Communication before we arrives was fantastic and instructions on finding the campsite were very clear and easy to follow. On arrival, it was very easy to get settled in and we shortly met our host, Becki. She was extremely helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. Our tent was nice and clean when we arrived and nicely spaces out, giving us plenty of room to spread out and enjoy ourselves and with easy access to one of the water taps. Looks and showers were great and the location was ideal for us, about a 5 minute drive to Lymington and 15 mins away from several beautiful walks in the new forest. Teddy's Farm comes highly recommended for camping.

Response from South Coast Glamping @ Teddy's Farm

Hi Tom, thanks so much for your review.  We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Teddy's.  It was a pleasure to meet you!

Beautiful tents and surroundings.

The staff were super friendly. The tent and site was super clean. The fields were gorgeous. The wild animal sounds and the amazing star display where we saw lots of shooting stars was epic. Unfortunately there were no bins on the glamping site. The showers were to open for all to see. The tents were too close together. I could hear all 5 tents around me at all times. Amazing place just needs tweaking.

Response from South Coast Glamping @ Teddy's Farm

Hi Reenie, thank you for taking the time to review our site.  It was a pleasure to meet you and your family and so pleased the weather was on your side this weekend.
The bins are all centrally located at the main barn just a short 2 min walk from the bell tents as unfortunately the large lorries that empty them aren't able to access the field via the small tracks where we are located and felt that by having lots of smaller bins (that would be required for the number of tents) it would be rather unsightly - so made the decision it was better to have them all together close by.  Sorry if this wasn't ideal for you.
We're sorry to hear you felt the showers were open for all to see?  We have added doors this year and the units available are private now, so unsure about how we could improve on these?
We're also sorry that you felt the tents were too close together.  For a camp/glampsite there is a lot of space between each tent with private area to relax and unwind - unlike many.  Unfortunately sound does seem to travel more at night time due to the quietness around the farm.
We really do value feedback so will take it into consideration for the future.  We hope to see you again!  Becki & AJ

More camping than glamping

Be warned, this place is more camping than glamping. They don't provide anything except the tent and cots. Looks nothing like the photo on website. You can definitely find better glamping places elsewhere. They advertise "chandelier", but it is just battery operated tea lights that barely give any light. Why bother? you have to wear a bathing suit to shower. They say "Think comfy beds, romantic lighting, chic furniture and luxury soft furnishings," but there is none of this unless you pay extra. It is too expensive for what it is. The toilets are just event loos and far away.

Response from South Coast Glamping @ Teddy's Farm

Hi, thanks very much for your review. Not sure of your name as can’t identify you from any bookings we’ve had, but welcome any feedback.
South Coast Glamping @ Teddys Farm on CoolCamping is advertised as exactly how you describe - camping for glampers with beds and a side table only.  This year we stripped all the tents out to ensure Covid compliance and advertised ourselves as pre-pitched bell tents only!
If you have visited our website then, there you will find our overview of ‘soft furnishings and chic furniture’ because when we provide bell tents for weddings and events, this is exactly what we offer!
All of our other customers at Teddys this year have praised the loos for being clean and ideally located (right next to the tents) so unsure how you think they are far away?!
Sorry if you used our website as a guide rather than our clear description of the site on CoolCamping which as you’ve left a review on here, you must have booked via? Would be great to hear any personal feedback face to face in the field where we are present throughout stays where we’re always very happy to assist! Best wishes :)

Amazing, open and unwinding? (if a touch noisy)

Massive thanks to tall the team at Teddy's, we finished up our holidays with a long weekend and the kids LOVED it, playing with the sheep, roaming around in a real open and relaxed sense of space, some good walks and the Fleur De Lys Pub is about the best Sunday Lunch we've ever eaten. Only downside was it was pretty noisy, from morning planes, to distant traffic to an enthusiastic bunch of campers cackling until 3am. Annoying but ultimately minor to how lovely it all is. Many thanks.

Excellent relaxing great time!

We stayed in one of the bell tents at teddy’s farm and it was great and spacious with plenty of room around to make our own little home from home! The site it self had lovely open views and the facilities were clean and tidy and well stocked! I would also like to thank AJ and Becki for all their help with planning a special surprise for my wife’s birthday nothing was to much trouble for them! The lamb from Teddy’s farm was delicious! I wouldn't hesitant to recommend a weekend away with south coast glamping @ teddy’s farm! We will definitely be visiting again! Thanks again for a great weekend!

A really great spot - would definitely return

We stayed a weekend in one of the bell tents and would definitely come again. The tents are well spaced out so everyone has a decent space for some privacy. The facilities were also really good, toilets kept clean and were plentiful. Showers good too although maybe consideration should be given to providing a bit more privacy for the female showers, shower curtains or an extra haystack. Teddy and co were really friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. The setting is also ideal for exploring the local area. I wouldn’t bother with the Red Lion for dinner (recommended on the website) as the food was lower end pub fare and not really worth the walk (nice as it was)....One of those places thar looks like it’s living off its location rather than the taste of its menu. Setley Ridge vineyard def worth a visit and a tour, Food good too.

A really great stay, definitely recommended

We had a really chilled and peaceful stay in one of the bell tents. They are well spaced out so other campers don’t really impinge on the tranquility of the setting. Teddy and co were very friendly and approachable. Facilities were also very good, toilets were well stocked and clean. Maybe it should be highlighted that the showers are very much open so a swimsuit is essential (I think it mentioned in the small print in one of the emails) and maybe Shower curtains on the ladies showers or an extra haystack would be welcomed. ....but that’s pretty small fry. Really nice area to explore, wouldn’t recommend the Red Lion for dinner, just standard pub grub not really worth the walk.
