The Owner Says

The huts are fully equipped and a linen service is provided. Each hut has outside dining furniture and its own fire pit for cooking (cooking equipment & a starter pack of logs/kindling provided). A gas hob is fitted for convenience, as well as a sink with cold running water.
The hut is quickly and easily changed between its day and night functions. The day bed at one end easily converts to become bunk beds, and the dining table at the other end folds down to make a double bed. The huts are fully insulated with gas heaters, so perfect for when the weather is unkind!

To keep the environmental impact of the accommodation to a minimum the huts are not connected to a mains electric supply. Electric lighting is provided by means of a solar panel on the roof offering an easy and safe means of lighting.

An additional hut provides washing facilities. It houses two loos with basins and two showers. Each have both a hot and a cold water supply.

What's on board:

The huts are fully equipped with cooking equipment, there are tumblers, wine glasses and mugs tea and coffee pots, cutlery and enamelware crockery, sauce pan, milk pan, frying pan and cast iron outside cooking equipment. This is specifically designed for cooking on the open fire.

Consumables: There are a few tea bags and some coffee and sugar on board as well as a j cloth, tea towel and washing up liquid. There is loo roll and hand soap in the wash hut.

Bed linen: linen provided includes 2 pillows per person in cases and a duvet in a case as well as a fitted sheet for each bed. We do not provide towels.

We never allow a single group to occupy 3 of the 4 huts. We have found this produces an awkward social dynamic in the site, which affects everyone staying. However we do allow group bookings to book all 4 huts on exclusive hire - please contact us directly on 01580 830932 or info@thehubquarryfarm.co.uk to speak to someone about this!

Nearby

The National Trust-run Bodiam Castle is a mere 10-15 minute stroll across three undulating fields. You can travel from the castle by boat (01797 253838) to nearby pub, The White Hart (01797 252166) in Newenden, or by a Kent and East Sussex Railway steam train to Tenterden. The Bodiam station is actually within Quarry Farm and there’s a 10% discount for midweek glampers and campers. Tenterden itself (12 miles away) has a lovely high street of independent shops and cafes and is home to both The Old Dairy Brewery and the well-known Chapel Down Vineyard, a little way out of town. Even closer to site (within walking or kayaking distance) is the Oastbrook Vineyard where tours and tastings are also available. The huge sandy beach of Camber Sands is about half an hour away (17 miles) and well worth a visit on a sunny day. Battle, with its famous abbey, battlefield and small high street of independent shops, is eight miles away. The enchanting medieval port town of Rye is 13 miles away and it’s about the same distance to seaside Hastings. There's lots of lovely walks, bike trails and Go Ape at the National Pine Arboretum at Bedgebury (nine miles from site) and the nearby Bewl Water reservoir.

Food & Drink

This part of East Sussex is renowned for food and at the heart of the English wine renaissance. You don’t have to go far to find either. On site, The Hub is a shop and a licensed cafe-bistro where you can buy and try local produce. A range of catered options are available for groups too (if booked in advance - contact the site directly). The Oastbrook Vineyard is within walking distance of site and just one of the vineyards within easy reach. Chapel Down, Sedlescombe and Oxney Organics are others. Pub-wise, The Castle Inn (01580 083330) is within walking distance, just the other side of the river, and does some great homemade pub fare. The Salehurst Halt (01580 880620) and The White Dog Inn (01580 830264) are both lovely local free houses and about an hour’s walk (or a five-minute drive) away.

Excellent adventure!

My husband and I and our 3 small kids stayed in a Shepherd’s Hut in October. We had a wonderful time. I had worried it would be too cold but the hut was lovely and cosy, and with our waterproofs and wellies we had a great time exploring the local area - especially the wonderful river walk to Bodiam Castle. We had a campfire both nights we stayed and the kids got a real tickle from cooking our sausages over the fire and roasting marshmallows. For me and hubs we got a quiet glass of wine round a roaring fire under the stars once the small people finally went to sleep. It was lovely and felt like a great adventure!

Erin the Goose

Myself and my daughter just spent 4 nights in a Shepherds hut . It was comfortable well equipped place to stay. The frozen hot water bottles are a genius idea to use in the cool boxes and keep everything nice and chilly. We enjoyed a fire every night and cooked using the hot plate 3 out of 4 evening. one evening we walked along the river to the Castle Inn for a very nice meal. We had a go at kayaking on the river and rode on the steam train. This is truly a magical place to stay. Having Erin the Goose visit for breakfast was definably a hi light . Thanks we will return thanks so much for a great holiday

Absolutely wonderful!

We had a fantastic weekend with friends. The campsite is very well setup and run in a beautiful setting; it worked very well particularly during these Covid times. Anna, who owns the farm was wonderful. She very kindly let the children see the chicks and ducklings. The campsite has hot showers and good working toilets. You can see how hard they work to keep the campsite working. We really enjoyed kayaking down the river (and back up it!) and there was lots of fun on the mud banks. We would highly recommend!

Gorgeous early-autumn break. Cool fire pits!

We stayed here early-September and it was gorgeous. Beautifully maintained shepherd’s hut. comfy beds, nicely laid out interior. Kettle, sink, table. No electricity but LED lights. The central bathroom hut was eco and very clean - with nice touches like upmarket handwash. The area is FUN if you like the outdoors. To get to the nearest village pub, We walked through an orchard, then a pine forest and wheat field, then over an ancient little bridge. So pretty! The campsite owner told us about a little boat that comes past the huts that you can also take to the pub. Utterly lovely. The pub was quaint and well-loved, with loads of local history documented on th walls. And the staff were friendly and kept it open a bit later just for us. So kind. The cabin had a firepit next to it. And just down a bit there is a big, beautiful wooden outside dining table. A great place for a group or family getaway.

Beetje teleurstellend

Getting There

From London, head South on the A21 through a village called Hurst Green. On the south side of the village, bear left (signed to Bodiam Castle). Continue along that road to a crossroads at the end. Go straight over. As you drop down into the village, the castle is on your left. Continue over the bridge and railway crossing. The farm drive is clearly marked on the right.

Most guests drive; however the site is only a few minutes by car from the main line stations at Robertsbridge or Etchingham. Taxis are available from local firm AK Rother but pre-booking is essential (01424 401424).
