Walkers have their Sensations; Tesco's have their Finest range; even Megabus offer a 'gold' service for those who like to do their M1 gridlocks in the utmost comfort. And now, the team behind the delightful Dogwood Cottage Camping (aka Phil and Katy) bring us their luxury exclusive hire offering, the Dogwood Glamping yurt. That's not to call the original campsite next door the 'value' option (although it certainly is an affordable choice for a relaxing rural break in the heart of the High Weald), but rather this more high-end accommodation is squared at those more accustomed to a night on mattresses of the strictly non-inflatable kind. So if you're more Twinings than Tetley's, this glampsite might just be your cup of tea.
It's hard to argue with what this latest venture boasts. The Dogwood yurt is a mammoth 20ft diameter felt-lined Ornate Turkmen built from Ash trees sourced from the Glyndebourne Forest. Inside, it's a veritable riad of colourful scatter cushions and rugs that will happily accommodate a family of four on deluxe handmade Taurus beds (with firm orthopaedic mattresses). All the basics are included, plus a few welcome extras like a radiator, kettle, toaster, mini fridge, Egyptian cotton bed linen (freshly laundered and ironed) and the Morso wood-burning stove really sets it off. Outside, the spacious pristine decking area comes complete with a picnic table, parasol and firepit for enjoying a lazy al fresco evening meal.
New for 2015, the ever-resourceful Phil and Katy have masterfully crafted a brand-new camping cabin. From its secluded pondside spot amidst ash and willow trees, the Dogwood Cabin is a cosy abode for any glamping couple. This full-insulated and heated lodge has all the mod cons – futon double bed, silent mini-fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a compost loo. For all the creature comforts, campers can still immerse themselves in the sights and smells of The Great Outdoors by flinging open the French windows or lazily reclining on the sun-trapped veranda.
Location-wise, this little site ticks all boxes. All the immaculately clean facilities of the adjacent low-key campsite are available to use, while the quaint village of Brede lies at the heart of the Sussex High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's vast undulating grasslands are ripe for long country walks, before collapsing in a comfy sofa at one of the region's innumerable country pubs for a pint of the local ale. Rye's ancient cobbled streets beckon you to visit its timbered houses and picturesque harbour, while the pivotal towns of Battle and Hastings (1066 and all that) are also nearby.
Though a wealth of attractions await in all directions, you'll want to make sure you get back to camp for a spot of stargazing. Dogwood lies under some of the UK's clearest night skies – a real boon for a campsite this close to the capital. With Brede free of streetlights, light pollution is non-existent. As the video below of the recent Geminid meteor shower shows, Dogwood's glampers are in for a treat. So stoke up the firepit and toast the marshmallows, or if it's just the two of you, recline on your deluxe bed and admire the twinkling stellar tapestry through the roof wheel in your cosy canvas retreat.

Amazing loved every minute of it - May 2017
Me and my hubby and our 2 little girls stayed in the Yurt for 2 nights in May - we throughly enjoyed it - the Yurt is beautifully decorated inside very cosy and warm. We used the outside firepitt too cook both breakie and dinner on which the kids loved, as did my husband. Its very private and secluded the Yurt has its own decking outside and picnic table with massive brolley. There are 2 pubs within walking distance which we walked to with our little girls - they were both nice - but particulary recommend the Rainbow Trout - lovely food and outdoor play area for kids. There are rabbits, ducks, chickens all walking around the site freely which was lovely to see and on the 2nd morning we purchased freshly baked crossiants from Kathy/Phil(owners) which were lovely, We went and visited Camber Sands and Hasting during our stay - def recommend to anyone.
I booked the yurt for my partners birthday and we were not disappointed. The yurt was cosy, clean and was very comfortable. We particularly liked the log burner, the roof where you can look up at the stars and the relaxed feel. The surrounding area was peaceful and so beautiful. The breakfast was a lovely touch and we felt the owners would do anything for us. Wonderful people and beautiful place. We will definately recommend to others. Thank you so much Katie and Philip x
Just got back from a lovely weekend with my husband and our baby in the cabin at Dogswood. What an absolutely beautiful place, especially in the early morning sunshine. Our little girl loved meeting the chickens, playing in the mud and trying to eat catkins. The cabin is tucked away in a secret corner, looking out onto a woodland pond enclosed with willows and bamboo. It's simple, warm and cosy with a fantastically comfy bed and a tiny meditation deck outside. Once our baby was in bed we retreated outside to sit by the fire and watch the stars with a hot cup of tea. Magic! Feeling reinvigorated and totally blissed out after our stay. Thanks so much Phil and Katy, we'll definitely be back!
This really was a beautiful yurt. We've stayed in a few now but this was definitely the best we've come across and was excellent value for money. Its great that the owners haven't cut corners on quality - we loved the beautiful Tibetan carpets and top notch Egyptian cotton bed linen. And even though it was March the wood stove inside kept us as warm as toast. The yurt is surrounded by decking and has its own fenced off private area with a firebowl which was great for sitting out and watching the stars which really were impressive. It was also good to be out in nature - but not too far from a pub! We loved the surrounding area and all in all have had the perfect midweek break we were looking for.
Have stayed in Dogwood Yurt a number of times and always want to return - lovely secluded site with private deck - beautiful cosy yurt with wood burning stove - friendly helpful owners - plenty of woodland walks in surrounding areas - a great place to relax, listen to the birds and watch the stars -

Had a lovely weekend staying in a traditional yurt. Very clean and comfortable. The site had everything i needed for a relaxing weekend.
Would definitely go again.
Great place, went over easter so was quite busy but still felt private. Had all the facilities we needed and what we forgot to take was sold at the shop on site.
Would definitely go again.
