Forest Garden Shovelstrode
Forest Garden Shovelstrode, Shovelstrode Lane, Ashurstwood, Sussex, RH19 3PH
Such splendorous surroundings are a result of Forest Garden’s location, which is only three short miles from the ancient Ashdown Forest. The site is built on the edge of a deep pond (which has encouraged a plethora of dragonflies, frogs, and newts to thrive) making Forest Garden positively buzzing with wildlife. Deer, rabbit, and herons are all frequently spotted, and the calming sound of distant owls, buzzards, and woodpeckers can be heard from morning to night.
If you haven’t guessed already, Forest Garden’s theme is peace and tranquillity, with a healthy dose of eco-living thrown in. The two yurts (Kushti and Savannah) are pitched a full 50 metres apart, allowing guests to enjoy privacy and seclusion.
Back to basics, however, this is not. The yurts are ultra-spacious and come with comfortable sofa beds, solar powered fairy lights, ethnic furniture and textiles, and have enough space to sleep five with ease. Guests also have the added extras of a wood burning stove (inside the yurt), and a roaring open pit fire outside, perfect for marshmallow melting and star gazing on a clear Sussex night.
As lovely as the accommodation is it’s really the woodland location that sets Forest Garden Shovelstrode apart from the others. Come and immerse yourself in a totally eco experience. Leave your mobile at home, and simply fall asleep to the sound of a crackling fire and the wind in the trees. Pure camping bliss.
The Owner Says
We had the pleasure of staying in the Mongolian yurt, it was exactly the kind of relaxation we were after, it's very romantic too - with the tea and fairy lights. Breakfast was delicious and the beekeeping course was awesome. Big highlight was the log burner in the yurt at night as well as the camp fire outside. Definitely recommend it.
A Forest Gem
An awesome spot with great courses on offer. Charles and Lisa and their anaimals are super hosts. I love the Yurts, which are really comfy and the breakfast (if you choose to take it) is delicious! I would highly recommend this place and a haven from the outside world. I'll be going back there really soon.
