Exclusive adults-only camping in the Chilterns, in close proximity to Central London and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

City life can be overwhelming. Shoving your way onto public transport, waiting in lengthy queues for overpriced coffee, sitting in a cramped office that's always either too hot or too cold and never comfortably in-between — it can all get a bit too much. KoKo's Lakeview Glamping is perfectly positioned to provide a countryside getaway for tired city-dwellers, situated just 30 miles outside central London and offering a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

Tucked away in the heart of the Chilterns and in view of Shardeloes Lake, KoKo's three cosy bell tents are the only accommodation in this exclusive site, rested on wooden decking and each with a double bed. With the site not currently accommodating children (though young ones can be brought along if you supply your own portable cot), this small site is ideally suited to couples or a small group of adults looking for a getaway surrounded by nature.

Amenities are suitably sparse considering the size of the site, though compost "Simploo" toilets and eco-friendly electric showers provide the necessary amenities. Firewood is stacked on-site on recycled pallets, so you won't have far to go if you're looking to stoke up the communal fire pit. Food also won't be an issue given the presence of KoKo's gourmet trailer, a local favourite that serves comfort food just off the lake's footpath. Breakfasts can be rustled up for site guests, with a special discount provided to those staying in the tents.

For those looking to venture out, Amersham is but a 15-minute walk away, offering a further palette cleanser from modern London with its centuries-old buildings and quiet charm. More than 150 listed buildings remain here, offering a glimpse into England's past in an old town that's now mostly a conservation area. A further 40 minutes' walk and you're in Little Chalfont, a thriving village nestled in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You may only be an hours' drive from London but at KoKo's, you'll feel like you're a world away.

Nearby

Amersham is a 15-minute walk from the site, where guests can visit the Amersham Museum (01494 723700) that offers guests a tour of what life was like in this historic town from the 16th century onwards. If you're looking for something more lively, central London is an hour's drive away along with all the sights and sounds of England's capital city. If the hustle and bustle of the city isn't for you, go smaller with High Wycombe, a market town that's a 20-minute drive away and also home to the Hellfire Caves (01494 533739), an underground maze of caverns constructed in the 17th century.

Food & Drink

KoKo's has an onsite gourmet food truck just a minute's walk away from the tents, offering unique comfort food cuisine. Breakfasts and lunches can be ordered from the truck, along with bites in-between. In Amersham, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants such as local favourite The Saracen's Head Inn (01494 721958) and The Elephant and Castle which offers Sunday roasts, afternoon tea, and weekly pub quizzes. For restaurants, Gilbey's (01494 727242) serves modern British food in collaboration with the best local suppliers, while Artichoke (01494 726611) is a 2020 Michelin-star restaurant with innovative European cuisine.

Total relaxation

We spent two nights at the fabulous Koko Glamping site, perfectly situated: far enough away from civilisation to unwind completely but close enough to walk to if you fancy some socialising. Amenities were good, free tea, coffee & drinking water were provided and the boys were on hand to answer any questions or provide help & information. This was my first time glamping and I could not have hoped for a better experience. A very spacious bell tent, shielded from the worst of the elements by the edge of a small wood, with a comfortable double bed, luxurious bedding & towels provided for the hot showers. Unfortunately, the on-site food option was not available during our stay (owner’s vacation) but that was not a problem as we walked into Old Amersham for a pub meal on the first night and cooked on our individual fire pit, the second. A thoroughly relaxing couple of days with no packing up to do at the end. Would definitely recommend.
