An exclusive luxury safari tent retreat in the wildlife-rich Bedfordshire countryside, with views to die for

If we were tell you about a 22 acre rural idyll, complete with resident barn owls, red kites, buzzing beehives nearby, and a waterlily-flecked pond that's home to herons, chances are you'd place this bucolic haven in some far-flung corner of the country. Well, we're delighted to say that you can find this perfect patch of pastoral paradise in the Home County of Bedfordshire. With the Big Smoke just an hour down the road, this is the ideal destination for world-weary Londoners looking to get away from the hullabaloo of city life.

Opened in Spring 2018, Re:treat Glamping provides a luxury countryside getaway for those looking to reconnect with nature in the reinvigorating air of the Bedfordshire countryside. As friendly host Jo Baxter envisions, "imagine watching a beautiful sunset whilst toasting yummy marshmallows and sipping on a mug of warm cocoa; watching swallows dance above the pond from the jetty; spending quality time with your nearest and dearest with nature as your backdrop…".

Comprising a single, self-contained safari lodge for seven, Re:treat Glamping is very much at the high-end of the comfortable camping spectrum. The luxury lodge sits atop a spacious wooden veranda from which to enjoy the views. Inside, a large wood-burning stove inhabits the hub of the open plan kitchen, featuring butler sink with copper taps. The dining and lounge areas provide ample space, while two separate bedrooms host a four poster and triple bunk bed between them. An additional cot bed can also be provided and a quirky king size ‘den bed’ adjoins the living area, with space underneath for storage, playing, or den making. To the rear of the lodge, two private bathrooms house the toilet and shower respectively – the latter provides piping hot water and a picture frame window so you can enjoy the scenery while you soak.

Despite its proximity to the capital, you're still very much immersed in countryside life here – you know you're in the great outdoors when you're warned to watch your step for rabbit holes. The exclusive nature of the off-grid accommodation means that glampers have the run of the vast grounds too, with countless different pockets of the sprawling smallholding, each offering a new perspective. The old orchard is a grassed area surrounded by mature trees that's perfect for a game of rounders (kit and kaboodle provided), while the spinney behind is prime den-building real estate. For a bit of 'me time', seek out the pond-side summerhouse and while away the day in the rocking chair, lost in a good book. You can even bring your rod along and fish for carp, tench and rudd in the pond (permits available upon booking). And when it's time to explore, the footpath running through the dew pond field offers access to the surrounding villages of Pulloxhill, Silsoe, Flitton and beyond.

Glamping on steroids, impossible not to relax and switch off

from initial contact with the delightful owner Jo, the whole experience was absolutely fantastic, clear directions on how to access the private lane, then to be met by Jo and given a personal tour of all the amazing walks there are around the property and the 5 star super safari tent which is located in an absolutely wonderful wonderful location and kitted out with bits and bobs you wouldn't find in a boutique hotel. just go and sit out on the deck with a glass of something tasty in your hand and watch the wildlife and shooting stars come and go.

Fab time had by all 👨‍👩‍👧👨‍👩‍👧‍👦💕💕

We were a party of 7, 4 adults, 3 children all 8 years old. What made this Glamping amazing? Well everything 😀. The safari tent is huge, location is idyllic(you are on your own in the middle of fields), there are 3 different sleeping areas, a kitchen area, dining room table and chairs, a sofa. There is a BBQ and fire pit too. Indoor and outside games are also provided. From the moment you arrive, you feel chilled. Jo our host, was on hand each day to refill, clean our hot tub. See if we had any issues (we didn’t), but not in an intrusive way. Our kids all loved her. We did have to park our car away from the tent, but this wasn’t an issue as we had a wagon to transport our stuff. Jo really has thought of everything. We normally go to Havens for a weekend, but our kids said they loved this more 😍, so did we.

Perfect stay

We had a wonderful stay in the safari tent. It is in a perfect location - very tranquil and private with lots of space and areas to explore. The host, Jo, was so helpful and accommodating and couldn’t do enough to make our stay perfect. There were so many finishing touches which made it very special. The shower had amazing views and the beds were really comfy. We would recommend to everyone!

A real treat!

We booked this for my husband’s mother’s 70th Birthday as a surprise and what a fantastic time we’ve had. Seven of us in total including our children. Jo was the perfect host. Excellent communication throughout. The Re:treat was perfectly presented, a thoughtful welcome pack which included cookies and marshmallows. Clean and toasty accommodation ( wood burner was godsend) beautiful views and location. The hot tub is a great addition. The girls enjoyed the pond dipping and feeding the fish. All in all a wonderful gem. #memories

We could not fault a single aspect of our wonderful stay at Re:treat. Joanne made us feel so welcome and was a friendly & gracious host. The facilities are excellent - comfortable and stylish. Fantastic mid week break

Had an amazing midweek break at re:treat glamping. Both me and my 2 boys (9 & 13) loved every minute of our stay. The safari tent was immaculate and all the extras that jo had provided meant we didn't want for anything all week. Probably the most relaxing week ive had camping with the boys. Will definitely be returning.

Pure luxury and relaxation

Had a great stay at Re:treat. Everything was thought of by friendly hosts Jo and Nick The safari tent was luxurious and tastefully fitted with everything you could need and more. Loved the hammock and of course the log fired hot tub, so relaxing. Surroundings were tranquil with abundant wildlife and not a car in sight. The pond and surroundings were tastefully maintained to keep a natural feel, the decking to sit on was real a bonus. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a luxury Glamping experience. Can’t wait to visit again. Andy and Liz Hall

Pure luxury

We stayed as a family of 5 for a long weekend to celebrate a birthday and the weekend exceeded our expectations. I could not fault it. Jo, the host, is wonderful and has considered everything - the decor is beautiful and she has thought of everything: hot water bottles, extra blankets, a trolley to transport your luggage, artisan teas and coffees, homemade cookies and fizz. When discovering it was my birthday, Jo even provided some happy birthday bunting and offered a cake. The surroundings are so scenic and peaceful and offer great walks to local villages and English Heritage sites, but the highlight was enjoying the hot tub and relaxing on the deck overlooking the pond. I strongly recommend retreat if you want the fun of the outdoors combined with the luxury of hot water and solar energy. Thank you, Jo, for a wonderful stay!!

May stay at Re:treat Glamping

I stayed at Re:treat Glamping with a group of friends over the late May bank holiday weekend. The safari tent is so gorgeous and cosy - even better than the photos! It was clearly a real labour of love putting it together and every detail had been considered. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful - we particularly loved spending time by the pond. Jo couldn't have been more lovely, helpful and accommodating, and it really made our stay. Would definitely recommend ordering the breakfast, barbecue and other meal packs. We had an amazing time generally but the highlight was definitely sitting in the hot tub with a glass of prosecco!

Lovely relaxing getaway

We loved our stay at Re:treat! The safari lodge is so beautiful and very comfortable; the beds were really comfy and the woodburner and hot water bottles kept us cosy. Our highlight was drinking prosecco in the wood-fired hot tub! We will definitely be back. Thanks to Nick and Jo for being excellent hosts and for all the lovely thoughtful touches.

A fantastic family glamping experience

We have had an excellent time at Re:treat Glamping! The tent is beautiful with extremely comfy beds, a well equipped kitchen, a warm stove, and great showering facilities. Care and attention has been paid to ensure there is everything needed for a family stay such as lanterns, games, blankets and hot water bottles. The little extra touches like marshmallows to toast were a real hit with the kids! The area is beautiful and you really do feel to have your own piece of private countryside. Walking to local villages has been fun and the kids have spent hours playing by the little lake whilst we got to relax on the sun loungers on the deck! Jo and Nick have been excellent hosts, catering for our every need. As their first ever guests we are confident that this will be a very successful venture and we will definitely be rebooking.
