About Hadrian's Wall Country Yurts

Suitable For

Glampers, families, couples, dogs – yes. Campers, campervans, motorhomes, caravans – no.

You can explore three paddocks and visit the chicken to collect their eggs. The main attraction is Hadrian’s Wall, of course, which is just over a mile from site. It’s a walk of about 20 minutes to join Hadrian’s Wall Path, the national trail that runs the length of the wall. A great place to find out more about it is at Birdoswald Roman Fort (five miles away). Gelt Woods, and the Geltsdale RSPB nature reserve (01697 746717), are seven miles away. Historic Carlisle, its castle (01228 591922), and the Cumbria Museum of Military Life are 13 miles away. Some of the best mountain biking in the UK can be found at the 7stanes trail locations just north of the border, the closest is Newcastleton just over 20 miles from site. The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Northumberland National Park, and the northern edge of the Lake District are all within driving distance (six, 10, and 30 miles from site, respectively).

Food & Drink

Glampers can benefit from country life with fresh and free eggs from the site’s chickens and there are bacon, sausages, and burgers for sale too. The nearest watering hole is at The Old Vicarage Brewery in Walton Village, three miles away which serves its own ales (and a host of other drinks too) on a Friday or Saturday night. Alternatively, you can get cocktails delivered from the Lakes Horsebox Bar (07500 442833). Brampton (seven miles away) has a great chip shop (07486 953552) and is a good place to pick up supplies as it has a Co-op and a selection of independent shops. For a meal out, Ian and Caroline recommend the Duke of Cumberland (01228 670341) or, for a special occasion, the Penton Bridge Inn (01228 586636).

Quiet dog friendly yurt, perfect for couples holiday

Fantastic dog friendly yurt in a very quiet spot. Fantastic hiking links to Hadrian's wall. Perfect for a couple's break away. Caroline couldn't do enough for us. Every little detail was taken care of, including fires set up ready for the yurt and the hot tub. Very friendly. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to get away from busy life.

Thank you so much for your review.  We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in the yurts.  Thanks again.  Caroline and Ian

Beautiful with attention to detail

What an amazing place! The yurts are beautiful and a great private spot with loads of space to enjoy! Our 4 year old loved all the animals and being able to get up close and collect her own eggs! We will definitely be back!

Approaching from the West

From the M6 (Carlisle) exit at junction 43 on to the A69 towards Hexham. After about six miles you reach the Brampton Roundabout; take the third exit on to the Brampton Bypass. After a mile-and-a-half you will pass Lanercost Priory. Continue straight on for a mile or so before turning left shortly after entering Banks and climbing up the hill.  Continue along the lane until you see a turning on the left signed Burtholme and Walton; take this road. Hadrian’s Wall Country Yurts is 300m on the left.
