Wild, eco-conscious glamping on a working dairy farm, surrounded by the brooding Yorkshire Dales

As you head over to the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales – “dales” from the Viking word dalr (valley) – the countryside becomes less rocky and rugged. Instead of hardcore hiking, think rolling greenery, and heather moorlands neighbouring picture-postcard towns like Pateley Bridge, Ripon and Masham. Little Seed Field – a brand new glampsite opened in 2017 by Joanne and Sean Nicholson – fits these surroundings like a glove, offering outdoor overnighting in a peaceful corner of a working dairy farm.

Three snug cabins are on offer, nestled amongst boulders, rushes and trees, ensuring the farm retains the natural wilderness of the unspoiled landscape. "We have worked hard to ensure that our wild deer, birds of prey and natural flora are disturbed as little as possible", says Joanne and Sean, which will strike joy into the heart of the eco-conscious glamper.

Inside, the octagonal and individually decorated cabins are surprisingly roomy, featuring beds, mattresses and a small selection of cutlery and crockery. With lighting, electrical points and a log stove all present and correct, glampers keep nice and toasty on those chilly Yorkshire evenings. The basic but well-maintained (and centrally-heated) amenity building houses wet rooms and a small kitchenette facility. Here, you can source water from the farms' natural spring, use the kettle and toaster, or gather wood for your crackling campfire.

Any negatives? Well, there are some hardships – let’s see, mobile signal can be hard to come by (there are very few areas where you can receive signal), and the farm can be quite exposed to the elements – so bring warm clothing, wellies and a torch! But between taking a fine Yorkshire Dales stroll – nearby Nidderdale Way comes highly recommended – and watching the sunset over the pastoral valley below, we’ll think you’ll manage.

Gorgeous

I haven't been to a more welcoming glamping site and I have tried more than a few. Spotlessly clean and super comfortable these cabins make an Instagram worthy base for walking , cycling or driving to explore the Dale's. The site itself is lovely, so quiet and on a clear night which we got sitting outside to see the stars is amazing. Cabins are lovely and the ensuite rivals a hotel with a super hot shower.Life slows down a notch as emails struggle to find you and sitting watching the fire boil for your morning coffee you actually feel stress departing. Cant wait to get back and experience it all again.

Hidden gem

Stayed two nights and couldn't be happier with our stay. It really is a get away with the remoteness of the location but that just adds to the charm. We were welcomed by one of the friendliest farm dogs in the world! This site is a true hidden gem!

Simply fantastic!!

I stayed here for two nights with my 3 children aged 9-16 on 1st and 2nd September. It was a compromise, as my youngest wanted to go camping....and I am no camper!! These gorgeous little cabins (or 'hobbit houses' as the kids called them!!) were perfect and we all absolutely loved them. They are cosy and equipped with everything you need. Our cabin was spotlessly clean and we had use of a shower and toilet cubicle and kitchen, a short walk away, which were also kept immaculately clean. There are so many attractions and things to do within a fairly short driving distance of Little Seed Field and the breath taking scenery and view from our cabin was spectacular.Would not hesitate to return or recommend!

Just perfect

We stayed here with our 2 teenagers and family dog. The cabin was very clean and spacious. Very warm and cosy too, the fairy lights were lovely and made it very relaxing. We had our own Fire Pit/BBQ which we used both nights. We had our own allocated wet room which was kept spotless. The views and nearby walks are just stunning. A very peaceful and quiet get away. Thank you

Calming, family, wild nature

We had a lovely stay here with our 3 Yr old boy. The cabin was spacious and clean. We had an ensuite cabin which was fab. We did use the communal kitchen though and seating area both of which were exactly what you need for a glamping trip. The setting was beautiful and peaceful , the pond is also a lovely touch. our little boy loved playing down there and seeing the tractors working on the farm. he especially loved the owners very friendly dog. The firepit, and indoor stove were welcomed and we used both each day. Had some lovely trips out to Pateley Bridge and Ripon and a fab walk to a nearby reservoir. A lovely off the grid trip that felt wild but also abit luxurious with many home comforts . We would definitely return.

Beautiful views and cosy cabins

Stayed here as a family of three adults and our dog, loved every minute. Cosy, clean and spacious cabins with log burner for the cooler nights and wet days. Had our own allocated wet room and toilet which were kept clean throughout. Walks in abundance and beautiful surroundings and local villages to visit and explore. We truly love the dales and so pleased we had the chance to visit. Like previous reviews should of been abroad but didn't miss it one bit. Will definitely try to revisit soon and enjoy the hosts idyllic cabins and farm with the peace and a chance to recharge. Thank-you Joanne and team for sharing.

Lovely 2 night break

We were two families who booked 2 separate huts. The children loved running around in the field and exploring the pond and wooded area. Joanne was kind enough to give us a tour of the farm. The huts were clean, warm and cosy and had amazing views! It was great having the communal area to have somewhere to shelter when the rain came. The facilities were good too, two wet rooms to share between the two families and a shared kitchen area with a fridge and kettle. There are plenty of places nearby to explore for walks and days out. We had a lovely time and hope to go back soon!

An amazing experience!

Little Seed Field is the most beautiful and peaceful place! We have just returned from a five night stay in Meadowsweet (an en-siute cabin) and have been totally blown away by our experience. The cabins are immmaculate and so cosy, the scenery is outstanding and the Joanne, the host, couldn't do enough to help us and make our stay fantastic. We were suppposed to be going to Ibiza and staying AI (cancelled sue to the current situation) but we didn't miss it one bit! We are now glamping and the Yorkshire Dales converts! The children esepcially loved Roxy the black labrador and their adventures with her in the 'secret garden'!

Gemma!  I love this review, thank you.  COVID has enabled us to welcome and show guests, who wouldn't normally come out to the Dales (or glamping), what fun can be had!  I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay - we may not have the weather, but we sure do have the sunsets!  Hope to see you and your family again soon.

A beautiful, quiet and super friendly site!

Our second trip to Little Seed Field after taking a gamble on them last year, and it's great to see what they've done with the place in the meantime! We took an en-suite cabin this time, and it was well worth the extra to avoid the walk to the toilet block for a shower in the morning! Since we were last there, they've added a pond at the bottom of the hill as well as a communal eating area, filled with maps of the local walks. This worked really well for some families in 2 other cabins while we were there, as there was no way they could get everyone together around one fire pit! Speaking of the firepit - each cabin comes with one, and it's awesome. Way better than the one we have at home, plenty big enough to cater for decent sized groups. There's also the log burning stove in each cabin, and we're looking forward to getting back when it's a little cooler to really put it to the test. The cabins are a great size, and very clean. There's a toilet/shower block with 2 rooms if you're in one of the smaller cabins (no toilet/shower), and a small kitchenette too, with a fridge, microwave and toaster. The views are lovely, and there are some amazing walks too, but I have to say that my favourite feature is the family that run the place. Joanne and the team are lovely, and Poppy can't wait to be back to play with Roxy (though hopefully no hedgehog incident this time!)

Beautiful little spot in North Yorkshire

Myself and my husband took our 2 kids(9 and 11) here for a weekend stay. The pods were fantastic. Very clean, spacious and warm The beds inside are really comfortable and the indoor fire was fab.Easy to use and great for cooking. Due to the current situation with covid-19 we had our own shower and toilet assigned to us and the lady who looks after the place kept that and the communal areas spotless.I was very impressed. Although the weather did its best to try and ruin our stay we still managed to explore some of the local area which is beautiful I would highly recommend little seed to friends and family and I will be booking for a second stay in the future.

A little gem

We just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at little seed field. The site is stunning and the cabins are clean, comfortable and cosy. A real gem of a place and we will almost certainly return again and again. There are beautiful local walks and we enjoyed great fish and chips from the local take away shop. We had an en-suite cabin but wouldn’t be put off if one wasn’t available as the communal toilet/shower rooms are very close to the cabins and immaculate. We found Joanne the owner very helpful and friendly, and her dog Roxy was a big hit with the kids! A great day out is forbidden corner (approx 45mins drive away) fun for both adults and kids! We highly recommend little seed field.

A wonderful relaxing break

My wife and I arrived with our GSD puppy to be met by Joanne whose friendly welcome set the tone beautifully for a lovely relaxing stay. The cabin was immaculately clean, spacious and well equipped with everything we needed to feel at home. After unpacking and sorting the puppy out, we relaxed on the decking with our evening meal (chocolates and Prosecco!) admiring the spectacular views as the sun sank slowly over the hills in front of us. Our stay was all too brief as there is so much to see and so many ain’t places to visit within striking distance of our temporary tranquil home. We will definitely be returning at different times of the year to see the seasonal changes. Roll on autumn!

Fantastic

We had a lovely two nights in the cabin, facilities were excellent but low key, just as we wanted. At dusk we watched the rabbits coming out to play in the next field, and were very lucky to also have a couple of owl sightings and great views of the ISS and even the Neowise comet! The cabin felt very spacious and we were really comfortable in there even when it decided to rain. Would like to come back in winter and try out the woodburner, it looks great!

Beautiful and perfect!

It was just what I was looking for - a quiet location surrounded by beautiful countryside with a clean and comfortable glamping experience. It was lovely having the wood burning stove in the mornings to warm the morning chill and boil the kettle and I also appreciated having my own bathroom with a key. Also great to have the kitchenette. And all of it so well kept and clean. Plenty of space between each of the huts meant it was the quiet time I was hoping for.

Fabulous time had by all.

It was a wonderful place to spend a few days with friends. Beautiful views and vast skies. Cosy cabins with warming wood burning stoves made it all very snug. No problems at all given COVID restrictions and rather liked having own toilet and shower as a result. Enjoyed meeting Roxy the dog and her tummy that needed constant attention!! We will be back!!

Spot on for a winter break!

We had a lovely time at Little Seed Field. The cabins were cosy with amazing views in a fabulous area - lots to do for families (including wildlife spotting - we were excited to see a barn owl!) Facilities were very clean. The only reason we have not given 5 stars is because we didn't realise how dimly lit the cabins would be. Whilst this made them very cosy and atmospheric we struggled to see to play games in the evenings. That said when I enquired about a lamp our hosts did offer to find us a torch. Thanks for a great experience!
Feb 26, 2020 by Lisa Davison Verified Review

Response from Little Seed Field

Lisa.  Thank you for your feedback.  Our cabins only have low level lighting so that we have the least impact on the local flora and fauna at night.  We try to ensure we have the least impact possible on the local wildlife (we are so pleased you saw the owls) and keeping the lights low is one way of achieving this.
Thank you again for chosing Little Seed Field.

Cosy cabins in beautiful countryside

Had a lovely couple of nights here. The site is small and peaceful and has a very laid-back feel. You simply turn up, enjoy your stay and leave - just the way it should be! The cabins are well spaced out with comfortable beds and lovely views. The wood burning stove makes the cabins nice and warm and also has a hot plate for warming up food. Plates, cups etc are provided in the cabin and there are additional facilities (kettle, microwave, fridge etc) in the amenities block. We will definitely be returning!

Highly recommend!!

I cant believe how lovely this place was! The cabins themselves have a very homely feeling to them, and are a good distance away from the other cabins. We made full use of the wood burning stove- especially since it was raining and we were soaked!! Absolutely loved sitting by the fire with all the girls having a good old chinwag! Facilities were very clean and use of a toaster and microwave was handy! The site is secluded but there are towns within a short drive. I would definitely stay again, and have already recommended to many others. Me and my partner are now looking to book for sometime after February as the camp is shut then! Definitely 1000% would go back! A major highlight for me was the beds were so comfy, and it’s nice to stay in a cabin with actual beds. Other places I have been have been little mattresses (remind me of cell kind of beds), and have to take your own bedding. Whereas, little seed field actually provide the bedding and there was not one bit of me that could pick a fault. Thank you again! We had the best time!

Hidden Gem!

Could not rave about how lovely this place is! The cabins themselves have a personal touch, and are a good distance away from the neighbouring cabins. We made full use of the wood burning stove, bbq and fire bowl - even if it was winter! Absolutely loved sitting by the fire on an evening listening to nothing but the wildlife. We had sunny crisp weather which was perfect for that morning cuppa whilst we admired the view! Facilities were very clean and use of a toaster and microwave was handy! The site is secluded but there are towns within a short drive. We never saw Joanne or the team but enjoyed being left to our own devices. We would definitely stay again.

Would DEFINITELY stay again.

We stayed Friday evening til Sunday, in November which may have been brave to do! I thought it might have been too cold, but we got so lucky with the weather PLUS the cabins are so cosy and warm! Took us a little while to find it, and it didn't help that it was in the dark. That turned out to be a positive anyway, because the stars we saw were amazing, and we saw a snowy owl! The owners left us to it, but we felt really looked after. It was my partner's birthday and there was fizz and chocolates waiting for us on ice. All the wood etc we had ordered was waiting for us. It's a brilliant skill to look after one's guests while not being in the way. We really appreciated it. The cabins themselves are lovely, just enough room for the two of us for a weekend. We made use of the stove for breakfast and the board games under the bed. Thank you Joanne and Sean, we will be back!

Wonderful experience

We stayed for a few days and this is our second time and this time we brought even more of the family. We cannot fault anything and Nidderdale is my favourite part of the Country. Peaceful & away from it all!

A 3 night stay on the hottest week of the year! We loved our stay - our kids, 6 & 8 loved the bunk beds and the accomodation provided those little luxuries that are very welcome on a Glamping break - bed sheets, quilt, pillows and a very comfortable bed! Even crockery and cutlery! Very sweet fairy lights for those dark nights too. Excellent, clean facilities too a short walk from the cabins. If you like sites that are quiet and away from it all, then this is perfect. Really enjoyed watching the beautiful sunsets. Accomodation is positioned sympathetically to the surroundings and they're positioned well to allow for privacy. Plenty places to visit nearby including the excellent Brimham Rocks, wild swimming in rivers, Birchfield Ice cream farm and Howstean Gorge. Thank you for a lovely stay and for welcoming dogs too!

Beautiful accommodation and setting

Just back from a two night stay at Little Seed Field with my two young children (5 & 7). The accommodation was great, spotlessly clean and having the en-suite made life nice and easy with my boys. A fabulous setting and we were lucky enough to have two days of sunshine which meant we were able to sit outside and enjoy the amazing views. Brilliant night away in a beautiful, cosy cabin.

We loved our stay at Little Seed Field. The cabin was faultless. It was so clean, welcoming and homely. The bed was super comfy and the fairy lights on the ceiling made it even better when dark. Beautiful views to wake up to. Also would recommend getting the fire starting kit to sit out and enjoy drinks around the fire pit at night. We cannot wait to visit again! Hopefully this summer! :-)

Perfect weekend away

Stayed here over the bank holiday weekend, we was lucky enough to get the beautiful sunshine! Lovely cabins in an amazing location over looking such a peaceful place. Cabins are equipped with everything you must need. I also loved the little touches which made it extra special, the fairy lights for the night time made it look so cosy. Such an enjoyable weekend, lovely place and stunning cabins. Can’t wait to return 🙂

Fantastic setting, lodge and that view!

Great one night stay here in April, owners were really welcoming, the lodge was clean and the setting was lovely. We used the fire to keep our lodge toasty warm overnight but can’t wait to go back in the summer and experience the setting in the sunshine. The lodge itself was fantastic, our children loved the bunk beds and we all found it lovely and comfy and cosy. What a great little place, so glad we’ve found it!

Fabulous stay

We’ve just come back from a 2 night stay at the beautiful Little Seed Field. The location is perfect with stunning views. The sounds of the birds on a morning was the perfect wake up call. Joanne and Sean were fabulous hosts and we wanted for nothing. The cabins are cosy and well equipped with everything you need plus more with lovely homely touches. We loved sitting round the open fire and one of our daughters highlights was toasting marshmallows. Long lasting family memories were definitely made. Thank you Joanne and Sean, we will definitely be back!

Perfect Escape

Enjoyed a lovely weekend at Little Seed Field, easy to find, even in the dark, thanks to great directions and signage on arrival. The cabins are set in a beautiful location, lovely view, open and basic enough that you get the feel of wild camping but with more luxury amenities around you. Cabins are not crammed in, you have plenty of space around you which is nice, the interior is perfect too, loved the cosy log fire in early March! The hosts were lovely, happy to help and easy to contact. With a kind upgrade to an ensuite cabin due to a mix up we were very happy and to be honest would probably select an ensuite next time from the start, especially in the colder months! Definitely aim to return in the future, maybe with the dog this time! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Idyllic spot

Big thank you to the owners of Little Seed for such a lovely stay. We were lucky to be one of the first to try out one of the new en suit cabins and this made the stay absolutely spot on. Cabin is immaculate and has everything you need. Loved all the little touches like the cosy blankets, the snuggly duvets and the fairy lights. Log burner was easy to use and got the place toasty warm in a matter of minutes. The place is so quiet and peaceful and the views are stunning, a perfect place to relax. Really appreciated the handy guide with the info about the site, where everything is, how up use everything and the tips on local places to visit. We highly recommend Theakston Brewery and Fountains Abbey. Hope to come back very soon.

Cosy cabin with a lovely view

The cabin was beautifully laid out and spotlessly clean, and the stove made it very cosy even with the howling gale outside! The bed was very comfortable, and the games box was very welcome, especially in bad weather. The facilities were conveniently located and clean, although not as nice as the cabins, personally not a fan of wet-rooms, both the toilets and the kitchenette felt a bit cramped and plastic-y. The main thing which marred the stay was the multi-page laminated rule book in the cabin and multiple laminated signs around the cabin telling you what to do and what not to do. We both felt like we couldn't really relax, and were worried all the time about accidentally breaking one of the rules, as the tone of the booklet is quite officious. I appreciate that in order to run such a well-maintained site you need to let people know some basic ground rules, and judging by the other reviews nobody else had a problem with this!

Response from Little Seed Field

Astrid,

Thank you for the feedback.  We use the welcome pack and notices to ensure that guests feel confident to know how to use and maintain our cabins.  We also offer an informal approach to our glamping site in that we don't have a fixed reception and meet and greet service and we like to allow our guests to feel independent and un-observed - it works out best for us to be able to let guests know how to use the site in their own time.

Thank you for staying at Little Seed Field.

Peaceful and very comfortable

My husband, daughter and I have just spent a wonderful weekend at Little Seed Field. The cabin was warm, cosy and very comfortable. It was also very clean and had everything needed for us to enjoy our stay. The stove had not been fitted as the cabin was very new but the lovely en suite facilities more than made up for that. The communal kitchenette was usefully kitted out with all that is likely to be needed and there is a BBQ which we enjoyed using on one evening. Toasting marshmallows over the fire pit outside of our cabin was a real highlight. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. I would highly recommend Little Seed Field to anyone who needs a break from it all.

Peaceful, tranquil, relaxation at its best.

Quietly stargazing under silent skies. What a beautiful place! My partner & I spent a wonderful couple of nights at Little Seed Field celebrating our anniversary. Quiet, relaxing, no phones or internet. Perfect. The cabins are warm, cosy & very comfortable. The views are breathtaking & the skies at night leave you in awe. Sat chatting around a camp fire while stargazing. Wonderful. Waking to the peaceful sound of countryside & cooking on the BBQ all made the trip memorable. The surrounding scenery, walks & villages give you plenty to do during the day. Fountains Abbey was a particular favourite. We’d come back in a heartbeat. Loved every second of our stay. Thank you for having us!

Peace and quiet

We have just returned home after a lovely week in one of the cabins. It was wonderfully peaceful and a fabulous base for our holiday in the Dales. The cabins were perfect, I’m only sorry it was too warm to need the Chilly Billy stove - maybe next time! Thank you to Joanne for your hospitality and thoughtful touches. Sue, Chris, Will & the dogs

Weather won’t ruin this beautiful view

Just spent two nights at Little Seed Farm. Even though the weather was awful, it didn’t detract from the magical spot this is. The cabins are spaced apart so You don’t feel crammed in. The views from all the windows are beautiful and a wonderful sight to wake up to, but especially lovely when eating the breakfast hamper which you can order and it gets delivered to your door! A luxury which was well worth the visit. The showers are hot and the toilet/shower cubicle are fitted out with everything you need, inc a warm radiator. The little kitchenette has a microwave/kettle/toaster/fridge. Very thoughtful and gratefully used. I’d prob take my stove kettle next time though as carrying the cups of coffee across the site in the pouring rain wasn’t my finest hour! Also take some of your own water to the site as the owners use a spring so it’s courteous to be sparing with it. Beds were really comfy and the log burner had the cabin very toasty with minutes. Using a wheelbarrow from the allotted parking space is not a chore and adds to the feeling of being in the middle of a field in the beautiful Nidderdale AOB. Please don’t let it deter you. We will be recommending this lovely site with its lovely owners to all! Look forward to trying out one of the other cabins next time. Big thanks to Joanne and Shaun.

A little gem

I was looking for a quirky yet special place to stay for a surprise for a friend for her birthday. I'm so pleased I found little seed field. The site has three individual cabins, far enough apart for privacy and is set among the most delightful views over Nidderdale. The cabin and facilities were spotless and contained everything you could need, and more. The beds are very comfortable and the log burner emits fantastic heat. We took a casserole and warmed it up on the stove plate. The owner Jo was brilliant. She gave us access to the cabin early to add decorations before we arrived with the birthday girl that evening and ensured we had everything we could need for a perfect stay. We had an amazing weekend and will definitely return with our families.

Last Minute Bonus!

We stayed in one of the camping pods recently after a last minute cancellation made one available. The pods are delightfully placed so that you don't feel that you are overlooking anyone else and are not crammed in at all. Although if you were in a group they are close enough to not be a big trek to your neighbours. The field and the pods/cabins themselves are very spacious! The host Jo went out of her way to make sure that even though it was dark and late on our arrival that the cabin was cosy and myself, my husband and our dog had a very peaceful warm nights sleep on a cold December night. The cabins are spotlessly clean, as were the toilets/showers and the cabins are well kitted out with everything you need. The decor and soft furnishings in the cabins are really tasteful and nicer than our own house- we only stayed one night but will be back for a long weekend soon! Going to sleep seeing the stars over the moors was lovely and waking up to roll up the blinds and watch the sunrise on a crisp winter morning was magical. Cant rate this highly enough.

Relaxing Yorkshire Retreat

We had a wonderfully, secluded and peaceful stay in the Yorkshire Fog cabin at Little Seed Field glamping site. Waking up to stunning views over the Yorkshire countryside, we really liked the log burning stoves and very comfortable memory foam mattresses. The hosts had provided all cutlery/crockery and the wood for the stove really for our arrival and were really helpful and accommodating. Even providing information about local tourist attractions which was a great help. We will definitely be staying there again!

Beautiful!

We stayed at Little Seed recently and it was such a lovely place. Spacious cabins that are very comfortable and spotless! The scenery is outstanding and being sat outside watching the sun set, with the bbq on and great company, made for a really enjoyable night away. Jo is a fabulous host and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Highly recommend staying here and I look forward to our next visit!
