Wild, eco-conscious glamping on a working dairy farm, surrounded by the brooding Yorkshire Dales

As you head over to the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales – “dales” from the Viking word dalr (valley) – the countryside becomes less rocky and rugged. Instead of hardcore hiking, think rolling greenery, and heather moorlands neighbouring picture-postcard towns like Pateley Bridge, Ripon and Masham. Little Seed Field – a brand new glampsite opened in 2017 by Joanne and Sean Nicholson – fits these surroundings like a glove, offering outdoor overnighting in a peaceful corner of a working dairy farm.

Three snug cabins are on offer, nestled amongst boulders, rushes and trees, ensuring the farm retains the natural wilderness of the unspoiled landscape. "We have worked hard to ensure that our wild deer, birds of prey and natural flora are disturbed as little as possible", says Joanne and Sean, which will strike joy into the heart of the eco-conscious glamper.

Inside, the octagonal and individually decorated cabins are surprisingly roomy, featuring beds, mattresses and a small selection of cutlery and crockery. With lighting, electrical points and a log stove all present and correct, glampers keep nice and toasty on those chilly Yorkshire evenings. The basic but well-maintained (and centrally-heated) amenity building houses wet rooms and a small kitchenette facility. Here, you can source water from the farms' natural spring, use the kettle and toaster, or gather wood for your crackling campfire.

Any negatives? Well, there are some hardships – let’s see, mobile signal can be hard to come by (there are very few areas where you can receive signal), and the farm can be quite exposed to the elements – so bring warm clothing, wellies and a torch! But between taking a fine Yorkshire Dales stroll – nearby Nidderdale Way comes highly recommended – and watching the sunset over the pastoral valley below, we’ll think you’ll manage.

Our Best Price Guarantee

We guarantee our prices at Cool Camping are the same, or lower, than booking elsewhere. If not, tell us, and we’ll match it or beat it. Full terms here.

The area is classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with plenty of wild birds of prey, deer, bats and hedgehogs. You can walk to the heart of Nidderdale, with direct access to rare heather moorlands which are protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Due to the remote location, the cabins do not have en-suite bathroom facilities, these are shared in a separate amenity building, just a short walk from the cabins. Guests should bring their own duvets, sleeping bags and pillows (the owners can provide these for you for an extra charge).

Suitable For

Glampers, couples, families, small groups and dogs (with prior notice) – yes. Tents, campervans and caravans – no.

The site is a short drive from the Nidderdale Way – a very popular 52-mile circular footpath that encompasses a landscape unchanged in millennia, and outstanding in its natural beauty. There are plenty of places to visit close by: the market towns of Pateley Bridge, Masham and Ripon, and a number of National Trust sites including Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks. Little Seed Field is only an hour drive from both Leeds and York, whilst nearby Pateley Bridge is an award-winning village, winning awards in the recent 'Best High Street' competition.

Food & Drink

Each cabin has a private BBQ, plus there's the option to heat food on the stoves hotplate. There are two award-winning butchers in Pateley Bridge, plus a superb fish and chip shop come take away pizza place in the nearest village of Kirkby Malzeard (2 minute drive). As for pubs, The Grantley Arms (01765 620227) is a fine old inn in the charming village of High Grantley, whilst the Queens Head in Kirkby Malzeard serves local ales on draught.

Opening Times

All year round, except February.

Wonderful experience

We stayed for a few days and this is our second time and this time we brought even more of the family. We cannot fault anything and Nidderdale is my favourite part of the Country. The cabins are a luxury and you need to research beforehand what you need to bring and a lot less than when staying in a tent. Helpful owners, peaceful area and restful. Thank you for helping us have a lovely break.

Just fabulous

We loved the cabins which were warm and comfortable rain or shine. Great facilities and everywhere was spotless. Absolutely beautiful setting and lots to do in the local area. We went to fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks. We plan to return to explore further! Couldn’t have asked for more - thank you!

Response from Little Seed Field

We just love the caption for this review, thank you so much!  The weather won't get us down here at Little Seed Field...our cabins are the perfect place to kick back, relax and enjoy the wonderful things Yorkshire has to offer, even if it is a little rainy.  Thank you again, we hope to see you soon!

Peaceful & away from it all!

A 3 night stay on the hottest week of the year! We loved our stay - our kids, 6 & 8 loved the bunk beds and the accomodation provided those little luxuries that are very welcome on a Glamping break - bed sheets, quilt, pillows and a very comfortable bed! Even crockery and cutlery! Very sweet fairy lights for those dark nights too. Excellent, clean facilities too a short walk from the cabins. If you like sites that are quiet and away from it all, then this is perfect. Really enjoyed watching the beautiful sunsets. Accomodation is positioned sympathetically to the surroundings and they're positioned well to allow for privacy. Plenty places to visit nearby including the excellent Brimham Rocks, wild swimming in rivers, Birchfield Ice cream farm and Howstean Gorge. Thank you for a lovely stay and for welcoming dogs too!

Beautiful accommodation and setting

Just back from a two night stay at Little Seed Field with my two young children (5 & 7). The accommodation was great, spotlessly clean and having the en-suite made life nice and easy with my boys. A fabulous setting and we were lucky enough to have two days of sunshine which meant we were able to sit outside and enjoy the amazing views. Love the fact that it is a nice quiet site, with only 5 cabins. Kids loved the bunk beds and the swing ball. We will definitely be back.

Thank you Neil! We are so glad your boys enjoyed exploring the site and sleeping in the bunks! We very much look forward to welcoming you again soon. Why not try one of our bushcraft events next time - we can take them exploring in the woods and learning new skills! Joanne and team

Brilliant night away in a beautiful, cosy cabin.

We loved our stay at Little Seed Field. The cabin was faultless. It was so clean, welcoming and homely. The bed was super comfy and the fairy lights on the ceiling made it even better when dark. Beautiful views to wake up to. Also would recommend getting the fire starting kit to sit out and enjoy drinks around the fire pit at night. We cannot wait to visit again! Hopefully this summer! :-)

Stayed here over the bank holiday weekend, we was lucky enough to get the beautiful sunshine! Lovely cabins in an amazing location over looking such a peaceful place. Cabins are equipped with everything you must need. I also loved the little touches which made it extra special, the fairy lights for the night time made it look so cosy. Such an enjoyable weekend, lovely place and stunning cabins. Can’t wait to return 🙂

Fantastic setting, lodge and that view!

Great one night stay here in April, owners were really welcoming, the lodge was clean and the setting was lovely. We used the fire to keep our lodge toasty warm overnight but can’t wait to go back in the summer and experience the setting in the sunshine. The lodge itself was fantastic, our children loved the bunk beds and we all found it lovely and comfy and cosy. What a great little place, so glad we’ve found it!

Fabulous stay

We’ve just come back from a 2 night stay at the beautiful Little Seed Field. The location is perfect with stunning views. The sounds of the birds on a morning was the perfect wake up call. Joanne and Sean were fabulous hosts and we wanted for nothing. The cabins are cosy and well equipped with everything you need plus more with lovely homely touches. We loved sitting round the open fire and one of our daughters highlights was toasting marshmallows. Long lasting family memories were definitely made. Thank you Joanne and Sean, we will definitely be back!

Perfect Escape

Enjoyed a lovely weekend at Little Seed Field, easy to find, even in the dark, thanks to great directions and signage on arrival. The cabins are set in a beautiful location, lovely view, open and basic enough that you get the feel of wild camping but with more luxury amenities around you. Cabins are not crammed in, you have plenty of space around you which is nice, the interior is perfect too, loved the cosy log fire in early March! The hosts were lovely, happy to help and easy to contact. With a kind upgrade to an ensuite cabin due to a mix up we were very happy and to be honest would probably select an ensuite next time from the start, especially in the colder months! Definitely aim to return in the future, maybe with the dog this time! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Idyllic spot

Big thank you to the owners of Little Seed for such a lovely stay. We were lucky to be one of the first to try out one of the new en suit cabins and this made the stay absolutely spot on. Cabin is immaculate and has everything you need. Loved all the little touches like the cosy blankets, the snuggly duvets and the fairy lights. Log burner was easy to use and got the place toasty warm in a matter of minutes. The place is so quiet and peaceful and the views are stunning, a perfect place to relax. Really appreciated the handy guide with the info about the site, where everything is, how up use everything and the tips on local places to visit. We highly recommend Theakston Brewery and Fountains Abbey. Hope to come back very soon.

Cosy cabin with a lovely view

The cabin was beautifully laid out and spotlessly clean, and the stove made it very cosy even with the howling gale outside! The bed was very comfortable, and the games box was very welcome, especially in bad weather. The facilities were conveniently located and clean, although not as nice as the cabins, personally not a fan of wet-rooms, both the toilets and the kitchenette felt a bit cramped and plastic-y. The main thing which marred the stay was the multi-page laminated rule book in the cabin and multiple laminated signs around the cabin telling you what to do and what not to do. We both felt like we couldn't really relax, and were worried all the time about accidentally breaking one of the rules, as the tone of the booklet is quite officious. I appreciate that in order to run such a well-maintained site you need to let people know some basic ground rules, and judging by the other reviews nobody else had a problem with this!

Thank you for the feedback.  We use the welcome pack and notices to ensure that guests feel confident to know how to use and maintain our cabins.  We also offer an informal approach to our glamping site in that we don't have a fixed reception and meet and greet service and we like to allow our guests to feel independent and un-observed - it works out best for us to be able to let guests know how to use the site in their own time.

Thank you for staying at Little Seed Field.

Peaceful and very comfortable

My husband, daughter and I have just spent a wonderful weekend at Little Seed Field. The cabin was warm, cosy and very comfortable. It was also very clean and had everything needed for us to enjoy our stay. The stove had not been fitted as the cabin was very new but the lovely en suite facilities more than made up for that. The communal kitchenette was usefully kitted out with all that is likely to be needed and there is a BBQ which we enjoyed using on one evening. Toasting marshmallows over the fire pit outside of our cabin was a real highlight. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. I would highly recommend Little Seed Field to anyone who needs a break from it all.

Thank you Joanna for your lovely review!  We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.  The log stoves in the new cabins will be fitted in the first week of October, all set for our winter season.  We hope to welcome you again in the future! Joanne, Roxy and Team

Peaceful, tranquil, relaxation at its best.

Quietly stargazing under silent skies. What a beautiful place! My partner & I spent a wonderful couple of nights at Little Seed Field celebrating our anniversary. Quiet, relaxing, no phones or internet. Perfect. The cabins are warm, cosy & very comfortable. The views are breathtaking & the skies at night leave you in awe. Sat chatting around a camp fire while stargazing. Wonderful. Waking to the peaceful sound of countryside & cooking on the BBQ all made the trip memorable. The surrounding scenery, walks & villages give you plenty to do during the day. Fountains Abbey was a particular favourite. We’d come back in a heartbeat. Loved every second of our stay. Thank you for having us!

Peace and quiet

We have just returned home after a lovely week in one of the cabins. It was wonderfully peaceful and a fabulous base for our holiday in the Dales. The cabins were perfect, I’m only sorry it was too warm to need the Chilly Billy stove - maybe next time! Thank you to Joanne for your hospitality and thoughtful touches. Sue, Chris, Will & the dogs

So tranquil

We have just spent the most fantastic couple of days. No television, no phone, no internet and the most fantastic views of a beautiful part of Yorkshire. We would come again in a heartbeat.

Amazing Experience!

We traveled to Little Seed Farm from the US and it was the highlight of our two week vacation! The views are unbeatable and Jo was very hospitable! The cabins are simply beautiful and such a unique experience with everything you need. We slept great and had a fantastic time. We will be back!

Weather won’t ruin this beautiful view

Just spent two nights at Little Seed Farm. Even though the weather was awful, it didn’t detract from the magical spot this is. The cabins are spaced apart so You don’t feel crammed in. The views from all the windows are beautiful and a wonderful sight to wake up to, but especially lovely when eating the breakfast hamper which you can order and it gets delivered to your door! A luxury which was well worth the visit. The showers are hot and the toilet/shower cubicle are fitted out with everything you need, inc a warm radiator. The little kitchenette has a microwave/kettle/toaster/fridge. Very thoughtful and gratefully used. I’d prob take my stove kettle next time though as carrying the cups of coffee across the site in the pouring rain wasn’t my finest hour! Also take some of your own water to the site as the owners use a spring so it’s courteous to be sparing with it. Beds were really comfy and the log burner had the cabin very toasty with minutes. Using a wheelbarrow from the allotted parking space is not a chore and adds to the feeling of being in the middle of a field in the beautiful Nidderdale AOB. Please don’t let it deter you. We will be recommending this lovely site with its lovely owners to all! Look forward to trying out one of the other cabins next time. Big thanks to Joanne and Shaun.

Valentines night

Had a great time at Little Seed Field, the very well kitted out cabins were warm (wood burning stove) comfortable and in a beautiful setting. The facilities excellent, clean and close by. Well worth a stay, All very friendly and helpful.

A little gem

I was looking for a quirky yet special place to stay for a surprise for a friend for her birthday. I'm so pleased I found little seed field. The site has three individual cabins, far enough apart for privacy and is set among the most delightful views over Nidderdale. The cabin and facilities were spotless and contained everything you could need, and more. The beds are very comfortable and the log burner emits fantastic heat. We took a casserole and warmed it up on the stove plate. The owner Jo was brilliant. She gave us access to the cabin early to add decorations before we arrived with the birthday girl that evening and ensured we had everything we could need for a perfect stay. We had an amazing weekend and will definitely return with our families.

Last Minute Bonus!

We stayed in one of the camping pods recently after a last minute cancellation made one available. The pods are delightfully placed so that you don't feel that you are overlooking anyone else and are not crammed in at all. Although if you were in a group they are close enough to not be a big trek to your neighbours. The field and the pods/cabins themselves are very spacious! The host Jo went out of her way to make sure that even though it was dark and late on our arrival that the cabin was cosy and myself, my husband and our dog had a very peaceful warm nights sleep on a cold December night. The cabins are spotlessly clean, as were the toilets/showers and the cabins are well kitted out with everything you need. The decor and soft furnishings in the cabins are really tasteful and nicer than our own house- we only stayed one night but will be back for a long weekend soon! Going to sleep seeing the stars over the moors was lovely and waking up to roll up the blinds and watch the sunrise on a crisp winter morning was magical. Cant rate this highly enough.

Relaxing Yorkshire Retreat

We had a wonderfully, secluded and peaceful stay in the Yorkshire Fog cabin at Little Seed Field glamping site. Waking up to stunning views over the Yorkshire countryside, we really liked the log burning stoves and very comfortable memory foam mattresses. The hosts had provided all cutlery/crockery and the wood for the stove really for our arrival and were really helpful and accommodating. Even providing information about local tourist attractions which was a great help. We will definitely be staying there again!

We stayed at Little Seed recently and it was such a lovely place. Spacious cabins that are very comfortable and spotless! The scenery is outstanding and being sat outside watching the sun set, with the bbq on and great company, made for a really enjoyable night away. Jo is a fabulous host and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Highly recommend staying here and I look forward to our next visit!
