The pods are all sent in a tranquil, rural location with plenty of walks nearby.  The pod is an empty, carpeted space with a heater, light and electric.
The showers, loos and kitchen facilities in the amenity building are open, but on a managed basis.  The kitchen has a toaster, kettle, hotplate, sink and fridge, but no utensils.  We are also no longer hiring out airbeds.

About Hillcrest Park

Suitable For

Our main ‘poddery’ area is designated as adults only ensuring that whether it is school holidays or not, you needn’t worry about little ones (sorry, little ones, but sometimes the grown ups need a bit of me-time!)    Although the ‘poddery’ is adults only, this does not mean there will be no other children on the site, as we also offer other accommodation.  However, the ‘poddery’ is in a separate area which no other visitors should access.  This area of the site offers wonderful views of beautiful Teesdale, so you can sit on your deck with a relaxing glass of something delicious and take in the sunset – in peace and quiet!

Podders with dogs – yes. Party groups – no.

To the north, it's just 10 minutes or so to Raby Castle (01833 660202) – one of the finest examples of a medieval fortress in the North of England, also boasting a beautiful walled garden and a 200 acre deer park. A similar distance away is Barnard Castle, a picturesque market town where, among other things, the fantastic Bowes Museum (01833 690606) can be found. In the opposite direction, 17th century Headlam Hall (01325 730691) is a grand country house where you can find a challenging 9 hole golf course and a strikingly modern, spa retreat. It's about 10–15 minutes in the car. For natural wonders try High Force, the largest single drop waterfall in England or visit nearby Hamsterley Forest, known for both its beautiful walks and its mountain bike trails.

Food & Drink

The Brownlow Arms (01325 718471), a traditional country pub, is just over a mile away in Caldwell is reopening on 4 July.

Peaceful and dog friendly

I booked Hillcrest for one night as I was travelling down for a dog event. The 2 person pod was nice and cosy and the location was really pretty. Kitchen and bathroom facilities were well maintained and clean with a microwave, hob, toaster and kettle. There was a pub down the road called the Four Alls which served lovely home made food and which was dog friendly.

Perfect break

Booked a little trip for myself, partner and German Shepard- his first time away from the house- to see how my dog would do as my partner and I love going camping and normally leave the dog with my parents, it went a lot better than I planned the dog absolutely loved it as he was never alone, there are so many pet friendly places and things to do around here that I took him everywhere with me. The showers and shared kitchen were great never to far away from where your staying and every time I used them, they were completely empty. Would defiantly book to stay here again, even pursuance the parents to come down too

Excellent Stay!

Everything for those who would like to camp, but just don't fancy a night in a tent! We arrived for a night's stay 30 Aug. Plenty of space, clean and a great aspect looking onto the neighbouring fields. Pod was provided with a heater and spare socket, which was perfect for charging and keeping warm. Will highly recommend and use again when we are back in the area!

Our second excellent stay!

This was the second time my partner and I have stayed at hillcrest, both times staying in the camping pods, and both times we have really enjoyed our stay. The guys in charge are both very friendly and helpful and we love staying in the pods. We had a beautiful spot in the corner of the plot looking onto the farmers fields, we would highly recommend for a relaxing break away from city life. Barnard castle and Richmond are both close by as there is two pubs within walking distance (30ish minutes). We will be back again I’m sure, thank you guys for the service you offer x

Response from Hillcrest Park

Thankyou so much  for the really lovely review Jack - it means a lot.   I'm so pleased you enjoyed your return visit and all the area has to offer.  We hope to see you here again before too long.  Kate & Ed

Welcome and lovely break

I had originally booked for late December but it had to be rearranged and kate was very helpful with this. I was looking forward to a two night mini break for a change of scenery. In the event, I was bowled over by the welcome from Kate and Ed and the beautiful location - the facilities were Covid safe and the pods are large and cosy and warm at night. As a solo camper, it felt safe and the location is ideal for exploring upper Teesdale and the Richmond area. Myself and Effie the dog will certainly be back! Thank you x
