Luxury glamping pods and lodges for year-round, dog-friendly holidays on the edge of the North York Moors

For some people, the unknowable “what ifs” of a camping trip are just too much. What if it rains? What if it’s muddy? What if it gets cold at night? If these legitimate concerns are stopping you from booking your next camping or glamping trip – we’ve found just the place: High Oaks Grange in Yorkshire where its pods and wooden lodges all the way. As with all camping trips, if the sun shines… so much the better, but this place makes glamping in the glorious North York Moors an all-weather, all-season possibility, even for the fair-weather campers among us.

If it rains or gets chilly – who cares? You’ll be tucked up inside your futuristic little glamping pod or pitched-roof log cabin. And you won’t get muddy as the grass is manicured and accommodation connected to parking spaces by neat, gravelled pathways. Pods and lodges are en suite so you only have to venture out when you want to, and they have proper beds that are made up for you. They’re not the only thing that’s hotel-style either; there’s a TV, wifi, fluffy towels and toiletries too.

The family-sized pods (there are two) also have cute little bunk beds which, like the tube-shaped pods themselves, have something a little space-aged about them. Families with older kids who want a little more space (of the earthly kind) might prefer the Scandinavian-style lodges. More traditional on the outside, they feature separate bedrooms and yet more mod cons within. Each bed has its own TV (no – that’s not a typo) and the two in the twin room both have a PS4 as well. On the self-catering side, you’ll find everything you need with a kitchenette inside and a barbecue out on the deck.

These high-end lodges and pods are just part of the accommodation on the 60-acre site at High Oaks Grange where there’s a professional sheen to the whole operation. But it’s the location that really makes this place special. On the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, opportunities for walking and cycling are plentiful and it’s within easy reach of some of the area’s biggest attractions. A ride on the North York Moors Railway is almost obligatory, a day-trip to the seaside at Whitby is a must and the photo opportunity by the streamside thatched roof at Thornton le Dale is too tempting and too close to ignore.
