A North Yorkshire glamping site with superb fishing on offer from right outside your tent flaps

Camping and fishing go together like hand in glove. Nothing beats a night under canvas snoozing beneath the stars until dawn appears, calling your cue to crawl from the sleeping bag and cast the very first line across the lake. Sometimes, though, the dream is a little different from reality. You tackle with the fishing tackle, wrestle with your guy ropes and wake to find the sun climbing hurriedly into the sky. A small crowd of fellow fishermen have already encircled the water. Things never go quite as you first planned.

Stonebridge Fishing Lakes, however, seems to be the pleasing answer to these regular fishing woes. With complimentary lakeside fishing and a pre-pitched tent that’s closer to a small outdoor hotel suite then the old canvas you’ve got at home, a few nights here push reality far closer to the countryside getaway of your dreams.

Plotted in a meadowy space adjacent to the fishery’s caravanning area – so those determined for the old school methods are still welcome to tag along – Stonebridge's pre-pitched offerings are found nestled on the shores of the fishing lake.

Down by the lake, three bell tents also stand out against the greens of the surrounding foliage. Raised on wooden decking, that ensures a level surface as well as an excellent view of the water, each are kitted inside in a similar style. Double beds await, with a sofa bed for extra guests, and old-style lanterns perch on wooden bedside tables. A healthy scattering of bunting adds to the thoroughly English feel of it all too, while furniture out on the deck allows you to make the most of long summer evenings – English weather and all.  Added to that, a further larger tent – with two comfortable double beds but not set on decking – is found on the other side of the lake.

Facilities-wise, there are toilets, showers and each pitch has its own individual outdoor kitchen, compete with all the pots, pans and caboodle you'll need. A firepit is ideal for warm evening barbecues but for a quick starter there is also an excellent cooking stove, for a more speedy, practical meal.

You don’t have to be Freddie Fisherman to come glamping here though. An onsite angling shop means you can buy a rod and gear if you don’t have your own, or, of course, you can simply enjoy the pleasant waterside setting and spend your days exploring the surrounding area instead. It’s a 25-minute drive east to the North York Moors National Park, a hiker's paradise, and a similar length to the Yorkshire Dales in the west. Or you can stay and take on the local footpaths that head directly from Stonebridge Fishing Lakes – the best leading you a mile and a half to The Black Horse Pub… you won’t want to go any further than that!

Each unit has a covered 'breakfast tent' area, with a BBQ, cooking stove, and fire-pit surrounded by comfortable chairs. There is a toilet and shower block onsite. All units sleep up to 3 to 4 adults with either a double bed and a small fold down sofa bed or two double beds. A starter pack for the BBQ and firepit is provided for a stay of 2 nights or more. Occupants of the bell tents are welcome to fish complimentary during their stay on our  large coarse lake. An onsite tackle shop caters for most fishermen's needs.

Suitable For

Campervans, caravans, glampers, families, couples, fishermen and fisherwomen. Please note children under the age of 8 are not allowed to stay in the glamping units. Dogs can only be booked into the Rainbow and Brown Trout Bell Tents. We ask for quiet time by 10pm at the latest so we are not the place for you if you wish to come in a large group and party!

When you fancy forgetting about fishing, the nearby market towns of Northallerton and Richmond will do the trick – mixtures of quaint old centres with more modern outskirts. In Northallerton the long High Street provides a wide variety of shops, pubs and cafes. Best to go on market days, though – Wednesdays and Saturdays – when there is more of a buzz to the place. From here continue a few miles on the A684 and you reach theNorth York Moors National Park (01439 772700) – home to a plethora of outdoor activities. Osmotherley, on the park's western edge, is an excellent starting point. The 110 mile Cleveland Way National Trail runs through the village, and can be joined to walk a small section, or try the Lyke Wake Walk – the official starting point is at the edge of the moors above the village, where there is an official stone marker. For a little history the Wensleydale Railway (01677 425805) is also a must-visit. Largely run by volunteers, there are currently six stations on the line with steam trains running every weekend.

Food & Drink

There are 2 lovely country pubs within walking distance. The Black Horse (01609749010), a mile and a half to the north, and The Coore Arms (01609 748215), just over a mile to the south. Both serve homemade, traditional pub fare all day, with the Black Horse adding a slightly more modern, gastro pub twist.

Lovely Stay we will be back

We had a fabulous 2 night stay with our puppy in the Rainbow tent. Lovely set up, great idea to have the living/cooking shelter all set up for us, bed and all little touches like candles. Access to ice, a fridge and hot water was more than I expected too. Really helpful lovely family that run the place. We will be back with family next year to enjoy the peace again! Check out the local farm shop too I loved it!

Lovely place

We stayed here in de solei glamping teepee this weekend and we really enjoyed it. The owner was so nice and helpful. There's plenty to do nearby. The only negative I have is the shower block and toilet area, they aren't very pleasant but I can't fault the place other than that. Thanks for a lovely weekend.

Perfect little spot for a relaxed get away. My friend and I stayed in the Lakeside dream catcher. There is everything that you need for a comfortable nights stay. You can your essentials such as wood for the fire and candles at the honesty shop (bring cash and pay when you leave). We have a very lovely time. Pricing is superb compared to other glamping sites. Thanks very much to Richard and his family for making us feel welcomed and for a lovely stay

Glamping in Rainbow Trout tent

Arrived to the friendly owner who explained everything to us. Logs, firelighters, candles and eggs on sale at reasonable prices on site. The tent was great with lovely views over a small lake. It was very peaceful and tranquil. The outdoor kitchen was kitted out with a BBQ, gas stove and kettle and a firepit in the middle. The chairs were comfy and the candles and fairy lights were a lovely touch as it got dark. The bed in the tent was comfortable as was the settee. A great nights sleep was had. Definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic experience!!! 👍👍

Amazing place , great value for money... it was our first time glamping, and honestly it was like a hotel room without the formalities of a hotel ... amazing customer service , they really went above and beyond .. it's was all very clean and comfortable... really cosy with everything you could ask for and more ... the honesty shop is an awesome idea and goes to show what type of people you can expect to deal with .. and last but not least!!! I caught 5 fish in less than an hour lol ... .. Thanks to all the family and we will deffo be back ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very kind and friendly staff

Me and the ladies stayed here for my friends hen party. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The glamping tents were cute and cosy! Thanks so much for a lovely stay!

Myself and afew friends stayed here on Saturday night for a surprise 40th. We had the most amazing time. Very friendly hosts and very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend and we will most definitely be back to stat.

Fun first time glamping

Lovely place , stayed in Sgt Pepper tent which was clean and comfy, we were first timers and staff very helpful. Cooking facilities really good and bbq and fire pit all set up. The lake is lovely and Richard was very patient and helpful with grandson who hadn’t fished before. We had great weather but one piece of advise, take warm bedding as it gets cold at night. Highly recommend

Relaxing ideal evening getaway

Myself and a friend book the Whiteowl bell tent for our annual evening away . It was perfect for us . Easy to find, the owners were very helpful and happy to accommodate a last minutes change. The site is nicely set out with lots of privacy for each tent . We sat up under the sheltered area with our fire pit on and enjoyed a good catch up with a couple of G&T’s. I would highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet night away .

Peaceful and quirky

Our family booked two tents and we appreciated they were next to each other. Nice spacious tents and comfy beds. The outside seating/kitchen area is nicely done keeps everything dry and the lanterns and lights make it cosy. Bins were emptied for us and there was coal on the bbq and firewood on our arrival. Small touches were nice like Sponges and buckets for cleaning and a huge umbrella. Toilet and shower block clean, there is a little toilet close to the tents too, very basic and not the cleanest, although had sinks, a communal fridge and plug sockets which my lad appreciated! Staff were kind and helpful with fishing for my 9 year old too. Site is very overgrown and my boys did get a lot of nettle stings when playing. All in all a good stay, would recommend.

Very nice and peaceful

Very relaxed and left to just do your own thing, really nice setting right on the lake.

Great stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the dream catcher on the lake at stone bridge fishing lakes. It was a great stay, The dream catcher was very clean and very spacious inside. We had very nice comfy sleep, only regret was we had to leave early morning for work but we will definitely be returning.

We stayed in a glamping pod for one night. We wanted a peaceful night away and that's what we got. However, left before check in. Pod could have done with a clean up itself with a jet down. Bed was rather uncomfortable but that's just personal preference. Lake outside the pod was overgrown with nettles so hard to get to jetty to have a look. Glamping area itself needs a good cut back as it was so overgrown with nettles, it could be so much more. We wanted a peaceful night away and we got that. The added bbq/gas ring seating area was a nice idea. We wouldn't come back but that's just down to personal preference.

Great site ran by great people

We have been using this site for a few years now & have never heard or saw anything that would put us off going back again , It is ran by some great people who go over and above what is expected of them . The toilets / showers are old but are always clean & tidy . The pitches are a good size , big enough for a caravan & awning & car. I like using this site as it has a brilliant lake full of carp / chub / silvers which are all scale perfect , Northallerton is only a 10 minute drive away & there is a pub within walking distance . For the price , I would recommend this site to anyone , especially women who want some peace & quiet away from there husbands , just send them to the lake with their tackle .

Beautiful tent in stunning location

We stayed in the Dreamcatcher. The tent was wonderful and both beds comfy. A really well thought out addition of a kitchen/ seating area made it a lovely dry place to cook and eat. Lovely touches like a bin which was emptied for us, a 2 ring burner and bbq. The deck over the lake was just beautiful with the sounds of fish leaping as well as the birds singing made it a wonderful camping experience whilst keeping us comfy and completely dry even in a massive rain storm! The other facilities were a bit basic and quite a long walk from the tent. An additional facility had been added with 2 toilets, sink and fridge to support the tamping tents and we were grateful for having something nearer but it was rather grubby and rough around the edges. All in all a fantastic site for a lovely holiday but just adjust your expectations about ‘glamping’ It was comfy, practical and welcoming camping but not really glamorous. Very good value for money and I highly recommend Stonebridge.

Local Break

Nice welcome from Richard when we arrived. Great little place near Northallerton. We stayed in the Brown Trout tent with our American Bulldog Bronson. Plenty of room in the tent with a double bed and sofa bed, still room for Bronson to sleep on the floor. Decking with nice furniture to sit outside. The toilet block if close to the lake and tents but the shower block is next door on the camp site. It rained on our second night but the sheltered eating area next to the tent kept us dry while we cooked on the BBQ and lit the fire pit to keep warm. Location close to Brimham Rocks and Nidderdale. We will be going back with more family in the near future.

Nice place

Nice place with really friendly staff, white owl tent could do with a freshen up on the tent itsself however all facilitoes catered for, enjoyed our stay very much.

Awesome place, and great value for money

We can't recommend Stonebridge Fishing Lakes highly enough. We had a lovely couple of days glamping with our Shih Tzu, Tallulah. We stayed in the Brown Trout tent which was great, and the bed is so comfortable. We loved the relaxed and easygoing nature of the place and feel it's perfect if you just want somewhere to wind down. All the people there were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning again.

A perfect relaxing getaway

This was a perfect place for a relaxing weekend away. So peaceful and the tents were really cute, they had everything in place with lights, candle holders and pretty touches. The cooking tent was spot on, firepit, bbq and gas rings. The owners were really friendly and had thought of pretty much everything. There is a little shop selling firewood & fishing supplies etc. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to stay again ourselves.

Great value for money

Probably the best set up for Glamping I have been to. Everything you pretty much need. Such as under cover bits and cooking stations etc. For what you get it’s great value. A few things are in need of a bit of an update/repairing/ making new etc but I guess it could be one of the reasons it’s good value as new things cost! Overall lovely location and view of lake. Very relaxing and peaceful. Would recommend.

Calm, beautiful, well equipped

This is such a good value venue. Really well equipped, really calm with plenty of space for privacy with those that you come with. Very helpful and friendly staff on site. I would absolutely come again

Great fishing break

Great place, Fishing close to the campsite, Friendly really helpful owners, Beautiful surroundings, REALLY GREAT value for money.

Great friendly place in a lovely rural setting

I went for the fishing and the lake was perfect with a good stock of sizeable fish. There is a well stocked little tackle shop and lots of good advice. Whilst there, I had difficulties that needed the dog to be taken to the vet. The owners (and regular campers) could not have been more helpful. I am deeply grateful for their help and support. If you want a great place for some quiet fishing with a friendly welcome and two good pubs in walking distance then this is the place for you!

Great stay

Lovely little place to stay! It rained for our stay but the outdoor glamping areas were great and kept us dry! Nice place for kids as they have chickens and ducks running around
