Modern, en-suite glamping pods with hot tubs on the western edge of the North York Moors National Park

If you came to this paddock in the north western corner of the Yorkshire Moors a few years ago there wouldn’t have been much to see. Today, however, the place is transformed. It’s not just the two new, cedar-clad glamping pods, that owners Chris and Alison have installed. It’s also the pathways and landscaping they’ve done, the willow and saplings they’ve planted and the new pond dug out a few years ago that’s now a haven for wildlife. Accessible and easy, it’s still just a couple of hundred yards from the nearest A-road but today it’s a true hidden sanctuary too.

For visitors, the pods themselves are the height of luxury. Inside, there’s an en-suite shower room and a kitchenette with everything you need, right down to the spoons, spatulas and farm-themed mugs. While outside the south-facing patio is adorned with a hot tub where you can sit and soak like the ducks in the nearby pond.

To the east, views are of wooded Whorl Hill, where a footpath goes up and through the trees, or you can follow a path south and through the abandoned ancient village of Whorlton where there’s an intriguing old church and a ruined medieval castle. It’s not far, too, to the Cleveland Way and the Coast to Coast route, making Whorlton Pods a popular location for walkers.

If you fancy something a little more thrilling, the site also sits in ideal mountain biking territory, with local events, such as Ardmoors, within short riding distance from the pods and popular trails around Guisborough Woods and Osmotherley. There’s lots to explore beyond local area too, from Yorkshire market towns like Stokesley, Northallerton and Helmsley (all offering an array of eateries and shops), to the multitude of nearby National Trust spots, including Fountains Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Roseberry Topping to name just a few.

It's a 10-minute zip down the A172 to the National Trust-owned ruins of Mount Grace Priory, House and Gardens (01609 883494). Fantastic break

Just returned from a weekend stay at Whorlton Pods. What a beautiful setting! Lovely and cosy pod, and added welcome bonus was the delicious lemon drizzle cake. The hot tub was the main attraction and didn’t disappoint. Our host was very helpful and checked daily to see if everything was ok. They have thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Highly recommend and would definitely return. Definitely luxurious!

Fantastic stay...10/10! 👏🏼

We have just returned from a weekend away at Whorlton Pods, having stayed in the “Topping” pod. The entire experience was fabulous! The area is stunning and extremely picturesque with lots to explore nearby. Upon arriving in the pod, it was very clean and tidy, it gave an immaculate first impression (bed also super comfy!) The hot tub also very clean — lovely to enjoy on an evening after a walk/bike ride! We loved the personal touches, Ali had left a lovely personalised postcard with a home baked lemon drizzle cake (which was absolutely delicious!). Chris introduced himself when we arrived to ensure everything was ok and if we needed anything. He was very helpful, as we didn’t know the area we wanted to find some biking/walking routes to explore, Chris helped with this straight away and even emailed over the links for these routes. We ended up doing these over the course of the weekend and needless to say we weren’t disappointed! We were kept informed of when our Pod was ready before arriving by text message and Ali also messaged to make sure we received the map info from Chris. As the site currently only has 2 pods it is very quiet with no disturbance nearby whatsoever and fantastic open views! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would most definitely recommend to friends/family. We will be staying here again in the future. The fact it’s a short drive away from lots of great villages/places to eat etc. is a bonus. 10/10 for accommodation/service/location 😊 Thank you Chris & Ali 👍🏼 The Richardson’s x
