Quaint glamping in bell tents and a private pond-side shepherd's hut with a hot tub in the East Yorkshire countryside.

The Hodgson family certainly know a thing or two about diversification. Having worked the fields around Hall Farm since the 1920s, no fewer than four generations have seen the place develop, from horse ploughed fields in the early days right through to today’s tractor worked landscape. By 2008 they’d also opened their very own brewery, with cask ales crafted from their home-grown malting wheat, and now there’s yet another exciting development: Little Otchan Glamping.

Named after the farm’s most popular beer, the glamping site is located half a mile from the brewery itself and separated into two areas, each as lovely as the other. First there's Little Otchan Shepherd's Hut, tucked against a flank of mature trees and overlooking a pond. Its location offers complete privacy, with the built in double bed and private hot tub making it a perfect retreat for couples. Outside, there’s a firepit for that essential campfire while the little comforts inside, including a vintage-style digital radio, a retro microwave and a wood-burning stove, help make this an excellent year-round getaway.

Meanwhile, the second glamping spot is in a nearby tree-lined meadow where four bell tents are pitched from April to October only. Each six-metre tent offers a comfortable set up with proper beds and picnic benches outside. Each has its own private loo and shower-room a short walk away, fire pits can be hired and there's a lovely shared communal kitchen cabin too.

This countryside setting attracts more than just glampers. The shelter of the surrounding woodland and the water of the hut's lily-dotted pond draws a wide variety of wildlife. Though elusive, roe deer can occasionally be spotted among the trees when you’re particularly quiet, while kestrels, woodpeckers and buzzards also frequent the woods. Dragonflies, damselflies and more flicker across the surface of the pond. It’s one of the great benefits of being such a small and undisturbed camping area – most of the animals hardly notice you’re there.

If you do find the time to slip away, a quick drive east to the coast reveals one of the longest and straightest stretches of sand in the UK, reaching all the way north to Bridlington. From Hall Farm you’re closest to the southern end, where the beach curls around the edge of the River Humber, forming the famous landscape of Spurn Point, a popular nature reserve. In land, meanwhile, Hull provides plenty of more urban attractions ideal for days when there isn’t seaside weather.

1 - The Hut
The Shepherds Hut is such a fantastic place to stay. Everything you could think of is provided and it's in the most peaceful and scenic setting. Really enjoyed the hot tub, cooking on the firepit, and watching/listening to the wildlife around us - bats flying around the hot tub in the evening and the sound of owls was just bliss. Would love to come and stay again!

Fantastic Shepherds Hut
Fantastic Shepherds Hut set in beautiful grounds set away from the glamping area having its own private lake. Hot tub was a real treat. Also the hammock and fire pit area for the BBQ. Order the BBQ food as a treat. Well worth it (you get chicken skewers, pork loins, sausages and burgers plus some other bits and bobs). Great communication throughout and Catherine was at the end of the phone when needed. I would definitely recommend and would certainly return. Great if you want to just sit back and relax.

We offer discounts the longer you stay ranging from 10%–20% when you book 3 or more nights. Nestled in the idyllic and unspoilt East Yorkshire countryside Little Otchan Glamping offers memorable and unique accommodation in East Yorkshire. Little Otchan Glamping is located in the small rural village of Halsham close to the city of Kingston Upon Hull and is located on our family farm. We offer both a Shepherd's Hut and Bell Tent Accommodation. The Shepherd's hut is completely on its own and private, set between the trees on the water’s edge. The hut also has its very own wood fired hot tub and its own fire pit for those who want to cook on the wild side or just enjoy an open fire whilst gazing at the stars. The Bell Tents are situated within a meadow, surrounded by trees, with lots of space to enjoy the outdoors whilst having everything you need for a glamping stay, think individual washrooms, well equipped kitchen, fire pit and Pizza Oven. The hut and glamping field is located half a mile away from our own family run brewery, there you will find our onsite shop stocking perfectly crafted ales and also discover how Little Otchan Glamping gained its name. The opportunities for wildlife spotting are plenty, Kestrels, Woodpeckers, Butterflies, Deer and of course Hedgehogs are a common site. We also love that we are only five minutes from the beach, where you can dip your toes in the sea and enjoy an ice cream!
Nearby attractions
There's a swing and a little nature trail on site. Beyond that, Little Otchan Glamping is in the middle of Yorkshire's nature triangle, which includes the unique nature reserve of Spurn Point out on the very edge of the coast where the River Humber meets the sea. It's a mere five-minute drive to the nearest beach – perfect for a family trip to the seaside to enjoy the straight sands along Withernsea, and beyond while, inland, the 2017 'capital city of culture', Hull, has plenty to offer. The area is also dotted with villages with lots of pubs and cafes to enjoy whilst exploring the area.
Food and drink
Alongside beer from your host's brewery, there are a lot of places to eat and drink! Two excellent local butchers nearby – East Riding Country Pork (01964 671137) or Melbourne Butchers (01964 670241) – both offer a range of local meats, breads and deserts, while the nearest pub is two miles away (a five-minute drive or a 40-minute walk: The Roos Arms, 01964 670353). The Nancy Inn (01964 671117) is three miles away and The Boatshed in Withernsea is well worth a visit if you like real ale and cider. All these pubs stock beer from Little Otchan's very own brewery (01946 612201), which operates on the farm. Withernsea is the nearest town where there's a large supermarket – there's a fish and chip shop (01964 612322) by the town's central roundabout.
