Cambridge (Ready Camp)

Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire, England

Rural glamping that's also handy for the sights of Cambridge
Situated just four miles outside the historic university city of Cambridge, this beautiful Fenland campsite is home to three Ready Camp safari tents – aimed squarely at camping enthusiasts who don't want the bother of, er, camping.

The green, tree-sheltered space has a cracking location, close enough to enjoy all that the city has to offer but occupying a lovely rural spot where you can still feel in touch with nature. Situated at the end of a country lane between the Cambridgeshire villages of Trumpington and Great Shelford, it has space in abundance and, beyond the mature foliage, you can easily walk out into the endless landscape of the Fens.

Facilities include a well-equipped washing and shower block, a laundry and a children's playground, while your accommodation has all the essential glamping comforts, with two bedrooms furnished with proper beds (comfortably sleeping 4 adults or a family of 6), a kitchenette with all amenities – hob, fridge, microwave and plenty of crockery and cutlery – and a living area with a terrace that's ideal for contemplating the sunset over a drink or two.

As for things to see and do, Trumpington is a pleasant village, with shops and a couple of pubs, while Cambridge city centre is only a short bus ride away. It's hard to know where to start with regard to Cambridge's various attractions. You should certainly spend some time wandering its unique colleges and museums, try a spot of punting on the Cam, and maybe visit the pub where Crick and Watson unveiled their discovery of DNA: suffice to say, there is enough in Cambridge to keep you entertained for weeks on end. Which makes it all the more alluring to have somewhere so comfortable – and peaceful – to return to at the end of the day.

Your time spent…where it matters Time away with family & friends is great, but let’s be honest - it can sometimes be hectic to even think about! Ready Camp takes away some of the stresses and hassles of camping - having a pre-erected, canvas-wrapped haven with real beds, a kitchen and dining area. There’s no need to fill the car rammed to the rafters with an endless supply of ‘just in cases’. We give you back the time to do the fun things together with your friends and family. Pack your bedding & a sense of adventure Walk into a comfortable haven with cosy furnishings and oodles of little luxuries.  With two bedrooms, an open plan living/dining area where you can wine and dine to your hearts content or put your feet up on the comfy settee after a long day’s adventure. The Kitchen area includes a fridge, microwave and hob, along with basic cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. (We’ve even supplied the corkscrew!) When it comes to light’s out…we’ve even included a torch for those midnight toilet trips, or just to make funny shadows on the tent!
Nearby attractions
Spend time near the site doing walks and maybe cycle rides across the Fens and moseying about in the nearby villages, especially picturesque Grantchester (famously subject of Rupert Brooke's war poem and now home to both Jeffrey Archer and David Gilmour no less!). From here you can walk into Cambridge along the river, and the city itself is of course the major attraction hereabouts – you could spend days poking around its colleges and visiting its museums. Above all it's a great city just to stroll around, but to add some structure to your walks you should visit Trinity College's amazing Library (01223 338400), King's College's Gothic chapel (01223 331212), the Scott Polar Research Institute museum (01223 336540), home to artefacts from the doomed Scott exhibition, and of course have a punt on the river (01223 359750). It's easy to get into the city centre by bus but why not live like a local and hire a bike (01223 365629) to go back and forth between Cambridge and the site? You could even cycle to the county's other major historic town, Ely, where the cathedral is one of England's finest.
Food and drink
The closest pubs to the site are in Trumpington, where the Green Man (01223 844903) is a cosy old village local with a beamed main bar that does excellent gastropub food. In the opposite direction, in Great Shelford, the Square & Compasses (01223 843273) also does good food, including great homemade pies and puddings and a decent Sunday Roast. Also in Great Shelford, the Shelford Delicatessen (01223 846129) is a good place to stock up on food supplies. There's another Green Man pub in Grantchester (01223 844669), and this also does food and has a nice beer garden, although the place to head for here is really the legendary Orchard Tea Garden (01223 551125), which enjoys a lovely riverside location and serves tea, cakes and light lunches.
