Peaceful, private yurt glamping in the heart of the Stamford Meadows

Stamford Meadows Glamping is tucked away in the heart of the meadows that is its namesake, its privacy ensured by the tall hazelwood trees that line it. This means that when you sink into its wood-burning hot tub, tilt your head back, and close your eyes, you can hear the local church’s bells ringing, or a train passing by, or the chirrups of the abundant local wildlife — yet no one knows you’re here. This is your own private area of solitude, a place for you and your loved ones to escape to for a while, with everything you need right on your doorstep.

Husband-and-wife team Amelia and Yogi landed on the idea for the site after Amelia’s sister held a “mini-festival” in her back garden, prompting the hosts to invest in a yurt and share the land they’ve enjoyed for years. They’ve certainly replicated that concept here, albeit without the mud-sodden clothes and uncomfortable night’s sleep, given how all of your necessities are but a stone’s throw away. Head out into the meadows straight from the site, take a short walk up the road to get into Stamford town centre, or enjoy a pint at a selection of locals that are each a stone’s throw away.

But if you’re looking to remain all but completely motionless during your stay — which is firmly possible as Amelia and Yogi even offer to pick guests up from the local train station — you can enjoy plenty of on-site R&R thanks to the alternative therapies offered by your hosts and local holistic practitioners. Yogi’s a GP with a history in acupuncture, providing sessions for visitors for an extra charge, while Amelia — a solicitor by trade — took a break from law to dive into the world of holistic therapy. As such, the couple know plenty of experts in the field of reflexology, remedial massage, aromatherapy, and more, who each visit the site to help guests reach their place of peace. Suffice to say, it’s all but guaranteed that you’ll leave this secret spot well-rested.

Stamford Meadows Glamping is a private site with a large yurt (16 feet in diameter) that sleeps up to four, along with an optional bell tent that sleeps another four for an extra charge, situated in a secluded and private patch of land that hosts Amelia and Yogi also come home. The bell tent must be booked with the yurt — it cannot be booked individually. For groups of couples heading down, Amelia and Yogi will helpfully supply a third bell tent, if it isn’t being used for treatments. The yurt is fully insulated, heated with a wood-burning stove, with a king-size bed along with two fold-out beds for extra guests. The bell tent is the same as the yurt, featuring a fold-out double and two fold-out singles, ideal for some additional company or if you want another place for the kids to stay.

The yurt and bell tents have access to a private bathroom unused by the hosts, which is accessible through its own secret path lit by solar and fairy lights. Here there’s a flushing toilet, heated shower, washbasin, and electrical sockets for using a hairdryer or charging your phone. A wood-fired hot tub is shared between the yurt and the bell tent that seats eight people.

Suitable For

Glamping, small groups (up to eight), children, dogs (for an extra £20 charge) - yes. Tent camping, caravans, campervans, motorhomes - no.

Stamford Meadows Glamping provides a variety of holistic therapies on-site, carried out in a separate bell tent from trained practitioners and local GPs. Guests can sign up for acupuncture, reflexology,  a Swedish body massage, aromatherapy, a remedial massage, Hopi ear candling, an Indian Head Massage, reiki, or reflexology for an additional charge — Stamford’s hosts do not take a commission from these practises.

As its name suggests, the actual Stamford Meadows are directly accessible from the site. These 30 acres of land contain wildflower walks, including the Vence Walk footpath that runs through the Meadows. Visitors can access the River Welland, where they can go fishing or even kayaking, within a two-minute walk from the site. The town of Stamford is only a 10-minute walk from the site.

Rutland Water is a 15-minute drive from the site, with this sprawling reservoir surrounded by 4,200 acres of land ideal for a local day out. Hire a bike from the local Rutland Cycling (0330 555 0080) and embark on the Rutland Water lap (23 miles), Peninsula trail (15 miles), or Family trail (8 miles). You can also go fishing here and book in a beginners’ fly fishing course, or even enjoy some watersports and hire kayaks, paddleboards, rowboats, and more.

The Crown (01780 763136) is also a 10-minute walk away, providing a charming bar with a wonderful outdoor seating area.
